View Full Version : Is Alex a nice guy?
bttf4444 03-03-2007, 12:59 AM I would say that he is a very kind person, even if he does sometimes get out of control. As much as he may sometimes tease his sister, Mallory, he does obviously love her a lot - and he obviously does love his family. I really haven't seen Alex give Jennifer that hard of a time - even though Jennifer sometimes gives him a hard time. Anyway, I think his friendship with Skippy (a misfit) is proof right there that Alex is a kind person. I mean, how many teenagers would actually be friends with Skippy? I'm not saying that most teens would pick on him - but most teens probably would avoid him. So Alex does have a kind heart. He's also very nurturing of Andy in the later seasons, so he obviously does have a soft spot for children. Even though he initially tried to mould Ming into his image, he later on decided it was better to just let Ming be himself - and he was willing to be Ming's Big Brother again. As much as Alex may sometimes be a bit annoying, he is a very kind and compassionate person.

I fully agree with you. Good observations.
bttf4444 03-04-2007, 02:15 PM Thanks! :) There's an episode entitled Don't Kiss Me, I'm Only The Messenger - where Alex helps Skippy to gain the courage to talk to Jane. It reminds me so much of how Marty gives George the pep talk to face Lorraine. The only difference is, Alex is doing this because he really cares about Skippy - and not because Skippy is his father who needs to get Jane to fall in love with him, or else Alex will be erased from existence. Although, I could still see Marty being nice to George if they both were native to 1955 - and George wasn't Marty's father. Especially if George happened to be Marty's next door neighbour - like Skippy was to Alex. Marty and Alex are both very caring people.
Sharop 03-04-2007, 05:45 PM I voted "Most definitely." Because, overall, Alex is a nice guy. He doesn't always act admirably, but he's generally remorseful when he realises he's done something wrong, and you can see he doesn't like hurting people. He usually ends up doing the right thing in the end.
bttf4444 03-05-2007, 01:59 AM One thing I really like about Alex is that he is such good friends with Skippy, and Skippy is lucky to have a good friend like Alex. If Skippy went to your school, would you be friends with him? Answer honestly, now.
I haven't been to school in over a decade now, but I myself was a bit of a misfit. Actually, I was sheltered for a lot of my teen years - and I was homeschooled some of those years. Anyway, at this one school I went to for about a year, I didn't really have any close friends. I've had friendly aquaintences who would be nice to me and talk to me, but that was about it.
Anyway, I'm not meaning to bring my personal life into this - but I remember how rough being in high school was. Chances are, most of the kids at Harding High probably just avoided Skippy - and there were probably a few who would bully him or make fun of him, and Alex was probably one of the very few who stood up for Skippy. So this Alex/Skippy friendship is something that's very close to my heart.
Alex friendship with Skippy is more-or-less comparable to Marty McFly's friendship with his father, George - when Marty travelled back in time to 1955. I know there are a few Backies who question if Marty still would've been nice to George, if George wasn't his father and they lived in the same era. I would like to believe that Marty would have at least been nice to George, even if they maybe wouldn't become close friends.
Anyway, I believe that Alex's friendship with Skippy is proof right there that Alex is a very good-hearted person - even if he may sometimes act a little arrogant or money-obsessed.

Definitely! :) I love Skippy. I've always liked nerds/geeks. I'd most definitely make an effort to be his friend if he went to my school. And he seems like a really sweet, loyal, kind-hearted person, so I imagine he'd be a great friend to have.
bttf4444 03-05-2007, 04:38 PM I would have, too. As I've said before, I really didn't have too many friends when I was in high school. So I would've been willing to be friends with anyone who was nice to me. It seems, though, like there are many people who would like to be friends with the Skippy-types - but fear that they themselves would become a target of teasing. A lot of teens don't have the courage to not care about what other people think. Peer pressure can be a very major problem in high school.
Classicshowsgurl15 04-10-2007, 04:09 AM I put Yeah, for the most part because he can be kind of rude to his sisters, but I guess its just sibling rivalry.
bttf4444 04-10-2007, 02:38 PM I think, deep down inside, he loved his sisters. It's just typical sibling rivalry that is typical of many familys. To be fair, Jennifer and Mallory didn't always get along, either.
catlover79 10-06-2008, 08:39 PM Alex could be petty, greedy and selfish at times, but deep down he had a soft heart and was very insecure.
