ACWORTH, Ga. (Feb. 28) - Police are searching for two young women who used nothing but sunglasses to disguise their faces and laughed when they robbed a bank branch inside a suburban Atlanta supermarket.
The two, who police said might be as young as 16, handed a Bank of America branch teller a note demanding cash, smiled as they waited and walked out with stolen money Tuesday, police said.
It was not clear whether the pair had a weapon, nor were authorities saying what was in their note. It all happened around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Their images, captured on bank surveillance video, were quickly released by police and almost as quickly netted tips on possible suspects, Cobb County police spokesman officer Wayne Delk said. Authorities have not said how much money the girls took, but Delk said it is "considerable."
Witnesses were unable to tell investigators whether they left in a car.
Delk said it was not clear whether their getaway was captured by any other surveillance equipment in the shopping center's parking lot. The store is in a strip mall in an upscale west Cobb residential neighbood, about 28 miles north of Atlanta.
Delk said one of the girls appears to be laughing in a bank surveillance camera image - as though "it's all fun and games to them."
