It does seem like the shows I don't follow come out at light speed and while that may be a mirage, I do find it odd that shows that CANNOT be big "hits" on dvd, like the Doris Day Show seem to come out monthly. Most people I know do not even know who Doris Day was/is let alone even knowing she had a show... meanwhile I waited 2 years for Starsky and Hutch Season 4, a year for All in the Family S6, and don't get me started on the Six Million Dollar Man... that's released overseas only.

Just can't figure these companies out.

And how can shows like Leave it to Beaver, a total slice of Americana be sidelined for drek like Full House? It's true, life isn't fair, but does it have to hurt so bad?

The simple fact is that the companies go by the numbers. BOB NEWHART is one of the funniest shows I've ever encountered in my life, but thanks to low sales, it's future releases are seemingly doomed. Stupid shows that will be out of sight, out of mind within a couple of years have become PRIORITIES! A classic like TBNS or TMTMS now are taking a backseat to crap like THE SIMPLE LIFE. You see such mindless shows being showcased with HUGE promotions, with such gems as even I LOVE LUCY lurking somewhere in the store at the lowest possible place, hiding somewhere in the back. It's a scavenger hunt... almost like they DON'T want you to find a good buy.

It's ridiculous and those idiots at FOX or any other DVD company for that matter will never get the picture (sans a couple of extraordinary studios like Shout! and Image).

As far as season sets coming out in an orderly fashion-I think some of it has to do with what kind of deal is made. For instance I think the Dick Van Dyke Show was set up so that all five seasons were in the deal they made,same with the Doris Day Show and That Girl. As far as Fox goes they stink. Why would you stop releasing the Bob Newhart Show now? There are only two more seasons to go. Or the Mary Tyler Moore Show? Low sales-hogwash!!
That is so not true. Just an excuse. And I guess no more King of the Hill. What is up with that? That could not have been a low saler. All the major studios are ramping up their oldies now so what is wrong with Fox? Why would you stop the Mary Tyler Moore Show without Chuckles the Clown?
Fox really should just go out of business. They suck. Let some other company take over that loves old shows. I can't believe more Coach is coming. So I do think Leave It To Beaver will eventually come out. I am still sore at Warners for starting Nightcourt and not finishing it. And Sony for abandoning Barney Miller. Everyone that knows the show knows that the first season was probably its lowest point. Goodnight everyone!

The waits are making me not wanna waste my money on some shows. The smaller comanies do the best job releasing series. Thats why Doris Day and That Girl are being released properly, because smaller companies follow through. Even if one season doesn't sell well, having the entire series out will interest viewers in the long term.

Hopefully as TV on DVD evolves classic shows will get better treatment.

This topic definitely caught my interest. It is very peculiar how some sets are released and the length of time between seasons. I seriously thought "All in the Family" would be close to finished by now. But Sony has applied the '1 set a set' rule to that show. They seem to be straggling out shows at the most-painfully slow rate. :rolleyes:

I agree that smaller companies release shows the best. However, that is not the case with VEI, the small company in Canada that releases "Gimme a Break" and "Kate & Allie". There was about a 6 month gap between releases. Not sure if and when they will release the rest of both series.

Paramount seems to move quickly with season by season sets. They have a steadier pace with some of their titles with the exception of "Laverne & Shirley" which had almost a 3 year wait, I think.

Who knows how they decide to release shows? Sony is the one that is most-puzzling to me because they start work on other more-obscure shows and leave the other more-popular classics for dead. :crazy:

Mostly it seems to me that if a show's first season was in the mid 1980's or later (with a very few exceptions) it seems to come out like clockwork. Basically the newer the series the more likely it is to get faster season releases. Desperate Housewives, anybody? (What a stupid show IMHO) that seems to get a season released on the last day of that season airing on tv.

Of course I am biased in that I feel tv went down the toilet starting in the late 1980's and has gotten worse every year. I watch nothing that started in the 1990's or beyond as to me it is crap. Sadly, I feel many shows I really like will NEVER be released on dvd, such as:
Car 54, Where Are You?
The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis
My Three Sons
The Patty Duke Show.

Just look at Hawaii Five-O. We finally get the first season while the sixth!! of Magnum PI came out yesterday :rolleyes: Now to me H5O is a far better show (it ran for 12 seasons so someone liked it) yet I can promise you Magnum PI will be complete by the time we get a second season of H5O.

I posted elsewhere on this forum about shows that seem to have been abandoned, most notably The Bob Newhart Show and Mary Tyler Moore. Now if we could just get a channel to show the good old shows and STAY that way it would be great.

storrs19, with me you have a soulmate, with one exception. Although I loathe such garbage fare as "Seinfeld" and "Raymond," and virtually every other 1990's-2000's series, there is one '90's series that stands out as a diamond in the rough to me: "Star Trek: Voyager." That is my favorite of all the "Star Trek" series, and also, to me anyway, the best. Other than that, I enjoy only '80's series such as "Hart to Hart," "Hill Street Blues," "Dynasty", "St. Elsewhere", and "Moonlighting" (all of which I have on DVD), among others.

I'VE HEARD OF THESE PEOPLE, BUT NEVER KNEW THEY HAD A SHOW.
(WAY BEFORE MY TIME.) AND YET WE HAVE TO WAIT 6 MONTHS TO A YEAR
FOR OUR FAVORITE SHOWS. YES THEY ARE USING DARTS LOL LOL LOL.....
