Yes, I do, if only so that sales will keep up. If they plummet, there go any chances of seeing any of the other seasons.

That's hard to answer, simply because it's so subjective. What I would deem as the best others may roll their eyes at. Plus, I've never seen the show in Season formats before, simply because it's not aired with any regularity. The shows I've seen have been random. But I've never been disappointed with an episode. At the end of the day, I know that Maude is a show that I enjoy. End of story.

Again, the show has never failed to please. The fact is I expect (and actually hope for) that the majority of episodes on Season 1 are ones that I haven't seen yet. It'd be as if it's a totally brand new show. I could be wrong, since I haven't dissected the episode list to the point that I can recall seeing one or two episodes. I do know that her pilot episode in All in the Family was great as was her debut episode, again in All in the Family, so why should we expect the show itself to be subpar? Bea Arthur never fails to be hilarious. You either like her or you don't. Period.

4 and are the character at there best?

Again, that depends. This Season is the one with Florida Evans as the maid, which eventually would launch the show Good Times as an official (or unofficial; depends who you ask, right Solomon?) spinoff. So something magical had to be going on during that first season.

I don't think you're ever really going to know unless you buy the set and watch it yourself. It's only about $25 or thereabouts. Surely that won't break the bank. If it turns out not to be your cup of tea, you can always try to sell it on Ebay or something. But I think it's a safe bet that you'll enjoy it. There's a reason why she was given her own show. Trust that.

I have to the best of my ability. But I think, again, you're the only one who can answer this for yourself. No one can speak for you since tastes vary so much. The show was obviously enough of a success to warrant a second season, which led to a third, etc. all the way to a sixth. And the show wasn't cancelled either. It was simply taken off the air because the star herself wanted out. Had Bea Arthur decided to continue, the show would've lasted longer.

I think you'll find, upon watching the first season, that the evidence of the show's greatness speaks for itself. The rest is up to you...

I don;t recommend buying a show on DVD if you have never seen it before i syndication. It can turn out to be a waste of money but that's just my opinion. I think sampling the show first is important and since Comcast has allowed me to do that with One day at a time, I know that I would never buy it on DVD

True enough, but with Maude, it's a little bit different. Her exposure on All in the Family should be enough of a test to see if one would potentially enjoy her show, especially since her second appearance served as the actual pilot for her spinoff. Also, given that weezyfan has seen fit to challenge you about whether Good Times is a spinoff from Maude indicates that he's a fan of that show as well, which also works in Maude's favor since Florida Evans started on that show.

I agree one shouldn't buy a show blindly, but I don't think he's starting from square one when it comes to knowing if he'd like the show. It's the same with The Jeffersons. If you never saw their spinoff but you did see them as supporting characters on All in the Family and you enjoyed their appearances, chances are you'd enjoy their show as well. True, each show developed its own plotlines and ensemble characters, but we all got to see a sneak peek at these developments before the spinoffs took place. If people like the sneak peeks, then chances are they'll like the show as well. It's not the same as purchasing a show blindly without having seen one episode of it.

i have seen aleast the first episode that maude was ever on all in the family and the pilot episode from all in the family and 5 episode of maude and i found it to be very funny. but not as funny as The Jeffersons(I Have season 2 and season 5 on dvd of all in the family And The First 5 Season Of The Jeffersons On Dvd And Almost every episode from the 1980-1985 seasons of the jeffersons on vhs. just felt like telling you)

I'm not trying to turn this into a debate. I didn't suggest that his interest in Florida Evans was the only substantial clue to indicate if he'd like the show. Many who love All in the Family do not like Archie Bunker's Place even though both have Archie Bunker. I was just suggesting that he wouldn't be going into the purchase of the show blind, that's all. Maude's pilot episode was also shown and he's remarked that he has seen that episode so that should give some indication of whether he'd like the series.

He might want to try viewing some clips at www.youtube.com as well since there are quite a few to pick from. Aside from that, I don't know what else to suggest other than purchasing the set which is really relatively inexpensive, a set he could turn around and sell on Ebay or on amazon.com if it turned out he hated it.

I'm not trying to sound snotty or condescending here, but this is kind of a "common sense" issue. It's not like DVD sets haven't been around for a while. How has he handled purchasing TV sets that he didn't know about before? In the end, only we, the customer, can decide whether to take the plunge, but it's hardly brain surgery. And it's not like purchasing a car either. In this day and age of the internet where trading/selling has become old hat, it's easy to just resell the thing on Ebay, amazon.com or a yahoo auction. Sometimes you not only recoup your entire money, you even make a profit.

I have on occasion bought a DVD or two that I felt "stuck with" because I purchased them with the assumption I would like them more than I actually did. No big deal. The world didn't end. For me, it's simple. I'd rather risk losing a few dollars on a dud product rather than saving my money and risk missing out on something worth owning.

Weezyfan has to make that decision for himself as well, but again, I suggest youtube. Some of the clips there are hysterical...

I would get Maude on DVD you nervery know when it might come back on TV again

Love the show and highly recommend it. Seasons 1 and 2 are by far (in my opinion at least) the best. Florida Evans (the maid) and Maude (Bea Arthur) had great chemistry together. None of the replacement maids were ever as special as Florida. I also liked Arthur Harmon best in the first few seasons for some reason.

I've already pre-ordered mine. It sure beats the usual crap they turn out monthly which consists of garbage from the last 15 years on tv that we are being saturated with. :rolleyes:
