My next favorites are Pepsi, Dr. Pepper and Cherry Coke.

Depending on what I'm thirsty for, I'll drink any soda, but Coca Cola's still number one for me.

Once upon a time when I still drank soda, pre-April 2005, regular Coca-Cola was my drug of choice. That, and Vanilla Coke.


These days, if I am hungover or spewing things from my mouth and exit door, regular 7Up is my drug of choice to settle my stomach. The last time I had 7Up was ohhhh, I don't know, October 2006?

I've been on a Schweppe's ginger ale kick lately.

During different times in my life. I've loved different sodas. At one time, I loved grape, cherry, orange and strawberry no matter if it was Fanta, Nesbitt ( the one that "didn't bubble up your nose," as the kid's show host used to say of its sponsor), Crush, or one of the BEST, Welch's soda. I have loved both 7Up for its bite and Sprite for its soft fizz; for ginger ale it is SCHWEPPES, because it is "Schwepperverscent" and better than Canada Dry which is too dry; Dr Pepper during high school, because I loved the sponsor-ads by Dick Clark during American Bandstand ( though I went to high school a decade later, --I just never got say in getting Dr Pepper --but those David Naughton dancing commercials really got to me, as well as Naughton's naughty, sexy body! ( "I'm a Pepper, she's a Pepper, he's a Pepper, wouldn't you like to be a Pepper, too?" );

These days, I've got a Jones for Jones, and love the magnifique Henry Weinhard Orange Cream Soda, along with the company's Vanilla Cream and Black Cherry Cream --according to Weinhard lore, the vanilla was created during Prohibition in order to stay in business. It is distinctive and delicious with honey, Angelica and different botanical roots.

HAHA! One of my teachers says that he often bets people $10,000 if they can tell the difference between Coke, Pepsi and RC Cola. I COULD, as I tried that test, when I saw it done on an episode of All in the Family. But it's too risky, now that Coke doesn't taste good anymore. It's too sweet, like Pepsi. :lol:

Coke used to taste like lime-accented battery-acid charging down my throat ( I once read a Han Solo novel with a drink called "Flame-out," which burned your tongue but chilled your throat--that's how I recall Old Coke ), Pepsi was a rush of sweetness and caffeine, RC Cola tasted like plastic swill. :barf:

After Squirt I love Dr. Pepper. I've tried the sodas that have lemon or lime flavoring. To me they taste like furniture polish, yuck!! :puke:

That said I'm not that big into soda anymore. I drink almost nothing but tea nowadays. Tastest great, has the caffeine I want, and is good for you - can't beat that.

Root beer --I hadn't covered that, yet. I've tried all brands. Dad's Old Fashioned was foamy, and yes, Barq's has bite. --A&W bought at an A&W restaurant as an ice cream float has an aesthetic charm. I loved Shasta, because I loved their old 1960s commercial: "Shasta, it has to be Shasta" to the tune of a jitterbug rhythm song. "The Fun is in the Foam." shaking up a bottle and splooshing others with it --the ad gave PERMISSION to splash other people with foam! I would shake up my bottle, just to make foam.
I used to love Shasta cola, too. But actually, I recall that they used High Fructose Corn Syrup long before Coke or Pepsi. At the time, I thought, oh, how charming! In those days, sugar was the BIG enemy, with groups baying like hounds against it. Nowadays, HFCS are suspected as bad for you, and not just for the flavor, vastly inferior to sugar.

Mountain Dew's newer flavors, or their test-market brands, like this great orange-type, LiveWire, which is limited.
I liked Code Red, too, but not as much.

Mountain Dew is a caffeinated, sweet, citrus-flavored soft drink produced by PepsiCo, Inc. It was invented in Marion, Virginia and first marketed in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1948, then by the Minges family in Fayetteville, North Carolina and across the United States in 1964. [1] When removed from its characteristic green bottle, Mountain Dew is bright green-yellow and translucent.


Ingredients
Mountain Dew lists its ingredients as:
Carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, concentrated orange juice and other natural flavors, citric acid, sodium benzoate (preserves freshness), caffeine, sodium citrate, gum arabic, erythorbic acid (preserves freshness), calcium disodium EDTA (to protect flavor), brominated vegetable oil, and yellow 5.

Mountain Dew (and its energy drink counterpart known as AMP) often incurs the disapproval of some health experts [2] due to its relatively high caffeine content for a soft drink (or energy drink), despite the fact that typical brewed coffee has a much higher caffeine dosage for equal volume. However, Mountain Dew marketed in Australia and Canada (see Dew Fuel/Mountain Dew Energy varieties below) — as well as several U.S. states — has no caffeine added at all (Health Canada states that caffeine can't be in food products that contain Orange Juice). Nevertheless, Mountain Dew contains tartrazine (“FD&C Yellow No. 5” in the US), which could lead to allergic reactions in some people. This has also led to an urban legend that the Yellow No. 5 in Mountain Dew reduces the sperm count of male drinkers. This is false. [3] Mountain Dew, like many citrus flavoured sodas, contains citric acid and sodium benzoate.

Recent reports to the Food and Drug Administration indicate that some soft drinks (especially of the diet variety) may contain high levels of benzene that are above the FDA's limit for public drinking water. [4] The source of the benzene appears to be from a reaction of ascorbic acid or erythorbic acid, and sodium benzoate. Mountain Dew contains erythorbic acid and sodium benzoate. However, calcium disodium EDTA and sugars have been shown to inhibit benzene creation, and Mountain Dew has not been found to have toxic levels of benzene. There has been a call, recently, for soft drink companies to address the toxic chemical reaction that takes place in many similar beverages. [5]

Diet Mountain Dew contains aspartame. Mountain Dew's brominated vegetable oil (BVO) is another source of contention. More than 100 countries ban BVO for its adverse health effects. However, the exact quantity of bromine put into fat cells from BVO is questioned.

Mountain Dew was originally marketed as "zero proof moonshine" and had pictures of hillbillies on the bottle until 1973.

Today's target demographic is radically different. The drink is mainly marketed to people in the 12-30 year old demographic group, creating a connection to outdoor activities like extreme sports and to the video game culture. [6] The name Mountain Dew was first trademarked by two brothers, Barney and Ally Hartman, who ran a bottling plant in Warner, South Dakota.

Mountain Dew is the main sponsor of the Dew Action Sports Tour extreme sports tournament and the Summer and Winter X Games. It is also the main sponsor of the Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge, a series of free races open to anyone, comprised of an East and West circuit.

[9] In 2006, Diet Mountain Dew was reformulated - it is now sweetened with a blend of sucralose, aspartame, and acesulfame potassium. The previous formulation only used aspartame. The new "Tuned Up Taste" formula prompted a now defunct petition to restore the original formula by long-time Diet Mountain Dew drinkers unhappy with the change. Another site, NewDietDewIsYucky.com, features an action list and critical commentary on the new formula. This effort's goal was the restoration of the original formula under the original label or under a new "Diet Mountain Dew Classic" (or similar) label.

While the official name is "Arctic Burst", as seen on the actual Slurpee machine, it has also been seen mislabeled under the name "Arctic Blast" in some official online advertisements.
