The Comedy Store is a famous comedy club in Hollywood, California. It has been the venue of many famous comedy shows including Richard Pryor, Jim Carrey and Jay Leno. The comedy club is also...haunted.

Several workers at the club have reported strange events happening inside the club. A worker had finished setting up the all tables with a table cloth and some ash trays. She left the room for no more than a few seconds and returned to find that the table cloths and ash trays returned to their original places and the cloths neatly folded.

Alot of the events at the club revolve around comedian Joey Gaynor. He was usually the last person to leave at night. One night, while locking up, he noticed 2 candles were still lit. He went to blow them out and began to leave. He then turned around and noticed that the candles were lit once again. Another time, he was locking up and went to turn off the lights, which only took a few seconds. When he returned, he saw 8-10 chairs piled on top of each other in the middle of the aisle.

Another comedian, Blake Clark of Adam Sandler fame, was also a victim of the ghost. One night, while walking through the hall, he noticed a chair slide across the stage on its own. Another time, while talking with Joey Gaynor, Joey jokingly called for the ghost to show itself, then an ashtray began to levitate and fly across the room towards Joey.

Michael Becker, the guy who handles the Comedy Store's business affairs, also had an encounter. While on the phone in his office, he and his co-workers saw a man dressed in 1940's attire walk through his office and into another room. The man in the other room saw nothing.

Another time, Blake Clark and Joey Gaynor were leaving, when they saw a metal gate bend.

As a dare, Clark and Gaynor decided to go down into the basement which was rumoured to be haunted. While down there, they noticed a featureless figure hovering down there. The figure flew past them and the 2 comedians ran back upstairs.

It is believed that the ghosts have links to 1940's mafia gangs who's enemies were often killed and would often end up appearing as ghosts at such clubs.

That's a blatant ripoff of Resurrection Mary's act

That's a blatant ripoff of Resurrection Mary's act

I wonder if ghosts get together and chat about their haunting tactics. They sit around drinking ghost tea and eating ghost cookies, talking shop and dishing about their living world prey.

Comedy Store Ghost: “Man…I killed tonight! I absolutely killed! Did anyone see my set? I did a clean 5 minutes of furniture rearranging, then slid into a tight 5 on blowing out candles, segueing into my killer eerie sounds material, and then closed with my patented “bending of the metal gate to the astonishment of the hack comedian who really owes me because his only television appearance is due to me throwing an ash tray at him”. Huh?! Great stuff right?!

Res. Mary: "Look, Comedy Store Ghost, I've been doing the metal gate bending bit since you were knee high to a specter, haunting Mort Sahl and Shelly Berman! I'm tired of all of you johnny-haunt-latelys trying to horn in on MY act! You're a ghost at a comedy store, you should KNOW how despised joke thieves are! I'm Resurrection Mary motha****a! I'm known, baby, I'm known! I run Chicago! Al Capone's ghost ain't got **** on me!"

Lake Wales Ghost: “You think you got it locked?!? You think you have the best gig around? Nuh-uh. I got me a choice cut grade “A” slab of man meat at the house I haunt honey. Yes ma’am, we talking bona-fide! He’s a suitor! I haven’t seen a man look this good, all lean and muscular with the face of an Adonis, since I haunted that Naval base back in ’42. I inhabit this girl “Linda”, this real meek kind of girl, and I get to get freaky-deaky with my stud muffin. He’s got this real sexy way of looking at me. He’s also looking at the other side of the room at the same time, but that’s neither here nor there. Although he can see BOTH here AND there."

Andrew 'Dice' Clay told an interesting story on an E! True Hollywood Story episode about Sunset Strip: He, Sam Kinision and Alan Fischman ('Arvid' from "Head of the Class") went to confront a spirit after the place has closed. They walked up some stairs to a locked door. When Sam, who was always loud, started swearing at the spirits, Dice said the door started beating itself as violently as you can imagine. They ran their butts out of there.
