Hi Everyone!
My name is Jessica and I am new to this board. I grew up watching shows like 'Mama's Family,' 'Three's Company,' and 'Growing Pains.' Does anyone know, if season two of 'Mama's Family,' will be released on DVD?
Thank you,
Jessica

I have found a few sites that claim to have entire season runs of shows not currently on dvd(or at least only limited releases). Has any1 ordered from one of these sites? I see the links for them everywhere, inc. here on sitcomsonline.com. They have Mama's Family, as well as shows like Melrose Place, Alice, Mr Belvedere, Small Wonder, Laverne & Shirley... and many others. I am wondering where they would get these from?! They have the complete 6 seasons of Mama's Family on DVD. Just wondering.....

Warner Bros are notorious for taking long amounts of time between releasing seasons...I would expect Season Two later this year or early '08...I know that sucks but this is just based on their track record. Hopefully I'm wrong but there isn't anything planned thru July.

What happened, did they only include the syndicated episodes?

Yes, the episodes are very short. They run about 20 minutes or so, I think.

I hope that if they release season 2, that they are uncut. Why do they think people would want to see something that they can watch on TV for free.

I agree..I was saddened that season one were the chopped up versions. Apparently the man who holds the rights to the originals is holding out for more money. I don't know if it's true or not but I received an email from someone who worked on the first season box set and he said that they (WB) tried to make a deal with the man who owns the rights but he refused (over money issues). Now if that's true or not is beyond me but it makes sense. I have recently seen one of the first season episodes in it's original form and was shocked at the amount that was cut out for reruns. It's likely they may true to broker another deal with him for the second season but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I know many people who skipped out on buying this once word that it was the syndicated versions. This also happened with The Cosby Show and A Different World. Once fans screamed, they got their acts together.

Just curiously, ahafan02, where and how did you see this uncut episode?

Someone from an old Mama's Family mailing list sent me a copy of the episode where Mama finds out that Carl's grave isn't where she thought it was. I still have the tape somewhere...I presume he originally recorded it from the original run. I remember asking for others and he promised but never sent them.

I'd say it's almost a certainty that the season 2 DVD will be syndicated episodes as well. Warner simply doesn't have the rights to the uncut NBC versions. I'm just angry at Warner for not making us aware of this in the first place.

For those who haven't seen them, here are a couple articles from www.tvshowsondvd.com regarding the issue.

Here is the article that contains a statement from Warner Bros.

And here is the article about who DOES own the uncut NBC episodesl

You may want to avoid these sites. Apparently they're one (Canadian) company that goes under a lot of names. There are plenty of complaints online about these supposedly complete runs of sitcoms. The link below to an epinions site has lots of these complaints, including at least one that mentions our beloved Mama's Famly:

From the one article I read on www.tvshowsondvd.com the only way there gonna put season 2 on DVD is if people will support it & they will be syndicated episodes. I bought the first season & would love to have the whole series on DVD. If people are not willing to buy they wont be doing anymore seasons. I understand people want uncut episodes but I dont think it is gonna be possible with this show & I would rather have cut episodes then nothing at all.

I'm with you. The sets look better than the TBS episodes where giant ads come up and block half of the screen, etc.

Don't know - and if they are edited like the first season - don't care. I won't be spending my money on cut up episodes I could watch on tv, or my tapes. I didn't buy the first season either.
What I think is going to happen is they are going to put them out with no extras and all cut up, then a few years after they release all the seasons, someone, somewhere(and maybe the same entity) will re-release them, but this time WITH the original scenes and possibly even extras(they'll call them the Special Edition, or some such crap), and they'll laugh at all the suckers who snatched up the first release and have to turn around and buy them again.
They're in it for the money, folks. And if they can squeeze more out of you, they will.
