Cheers ("Where Everybody Knows Your Name" by Gary Portnoy and Judy Hart Angelo)

Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got.
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.

Wouldn't you like to get away?

Sometimes you want to go

Where everybody knows your name,
and they're always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see,
our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows
Your name.

You wanna go where people know,
people are all the same,
You wanna go where everybody knows
your name.

------------------

Full Lyrics never actually aired

Making your way in the world today
Takes everything you've got;
Taking a break from all your worries
Sure would help a lot.
Wouldn't you like to get away?

All those night when you've got no lights,
The check is in the mail;
And your little angel
Hung the cat up by it's tail;
And your third fiance didn't show;

Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came;
You want to be where you can see,
Our troubles are all the same;
You want to be where everybody knows your name.

Roll out of bed, Mr. Coffee's dead;
The morning's looking bright;
And your shrink ran off to Europe,
And didn't even write;
And your husband wants to be a girl;

Be glad there's one place in the world
Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came;
You want to go where people know,
People are all the same;
You want to go where everybody knows your name.

Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came;
Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came....

On nick @ nite, did they cut out the "Making your way in the world today takes everything you got, taking a break from all your worries sure would help a lot"? I think they had it when they first started showing Cheers, but its not there anymore. Or did the show just do that?

I'm not sure but I think that it wasn't Nick-at-Night that cut it out. It seems to me that it still airs on some of the episodes like the season finale episodes and season premiers. Some one correct me if I'm wrong.

It was Nick at Nite, but they do have the long version (not full) for "GIVE ME A RING SOMETIME", not sure about "ONE FOR THE ROAD", I saw that one a long time ago on NAN, never saw P3 on NAN though.

Here's the full version that has never been aired:

Singing the blues when your home team lose
It's a crisis in your life
On the run cause all your girlfriends
Who wanna be your wife
And the laundry's tickets in the wash

Making your way into the world today
Takes everything you got
Taking a break from all your worries
Sure will help alot
Wouldn't you like to get away?

All those nights when you got no lights
The check is in the mail
And your little angel
Hung the cat up by its tail
And your third fiancee didn't show

Sometimes you wanna go
Where everybody knows your name
And they've always glad you came
You wanna be where you can see
Our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows your name

Climbing the walls when nobody calls
You're lost at love again
The more you are down and out
The more you need a hand
When you long to hear a kind hello

Roll out of bed Mr. Coffee's dead
The morning's lookin bright
And your shrink ran off to Europe
And didn't even write
And your husband wants to be a girl

Be glad there one place in the world
Where everybody knows your name
And they're always glad you came
You wanna go where people know
People are all the same
You wanna go where everybody knows your name

Where eveybody knows your name
And they're always glad you came (repeat and then fade)

If you cut the current first verse, "Making....," the second, "All....," the third, "Climbing...," and the fourth, "Roll..," and add the original first verse along with the refrains, you get the original demo of the theme song. Correction on the Full length version, it actually aired on the 200th Annversary episode.

Also I think on Season 9 on DVD, Paramount should play the first season version on the 200th Anniversary episode.
