Right now it's in Alexis Bledel's hands (Rory). Lauren Graham (Lorelai) has already said that she will not jump unless Alexi's does ("You jump, I jump jack" heh....)

SOOOO.....why do YOU think??? Think there is hope, or do we need to go ahead and make plans for a series finale this year?

At the beginning of the season I was doubtful, but now I think there will be another season. I'm not too sure if we'll get a full season though, I'm guessing we might get 13 episodes or so.

I found this on the GilmoreGirls.org webpage

You may have heard TV Guide's report that Alexis Bledel (Rory) does not want to continue Gilmore Girls and that the CW is moving forward with the idea of doing the show without her. Well, according to my sources—who are highly placed within the Gilmore family—the plan of a Roryless eighth season has been firmly rejected for one very good reason: Lauren Graham is sticking by her onscreen daughter (you gotta love that) and has made it clear that she will not continue the show without Alexis on board. So... will we get another season? Lauren and Alexis are making the decision as a team. If they both decide to partake in an eighth season, we'll get another year of Gilmore bliss. If not, this will be the final year of the show we so adore. Still, don't start saying your goodbyes just yet. The show's rep at the CW insists the report that Alexis does not want to continue with the show is "really just a rumor... I've never heard that from Alexis' people or any reliable source close to the production." Plus, there's another reason to hold out hope: I'm also told CW president Dawn Ostroff isn't ready to let Lorelai and Rory go—and is prepared to do "whatever it takes" to turn the show around creatively and keep it around another year. My gut tells me there will be another season. I think they'll want to wrap things up on a good note, especially with so many bummer storylines this season.

I've lost hope of an eighth season over the last few days. Melissa has signed onto another show, talks for another season have "stalled", and almost everyone is sure that the show will go. I'll be so mad if this is the last season...I want a Luke/Lorelai wedding, and I doubt that we'll get one this season.

I'm actually kind of torn... part of me doesn't want the show to drag on for too long, but another part of me wants the Luke & Lorelai thing to have adequate time to conclude in a realistic, fan-pleasing way (ie not just thrown together in the series finale a la Ross and Rachel on Friends...)

I have read on the GilmoreGirls.org site that David R. has been in talks with other networks I sure hope he isn't thinking of leaving and that this is just a rumor because these writers have finally started writing decent and like some other people have said I don't want them to rush the Luke and Lorelia thing and I would really like to see a wedding between them a nice big Stars Hollow wedding. And another thing I have read on the CW Gilmore Girls message board which I really hope is a rumor is that Melissa (Sookie) might be going to a new show. I really hope that is a rumor because if they do have another season it wouldn't be right not having Sookie there. I mean she is co-owner of the Inn, she can't just leave and plus I like it when Sookie and Michele argue with each other I would really miss that if Sookie wasn't there. So I just really hope all of these things are just rumors. Maybe we all need to pray for another season maybe that would do that trick.

Melissa McCarthy who plays Sookie has signed onto do a pilot, so I'm guessing that if the show does return for another season, Melissa won't be back :(

I'm torn. I've liked the show for so long but this season has sucked. At least a large part of it and I missed about half the episodes. If Melissa is leaving I think it's just better to end it with all the regulars intact. I just hope it ends with Lor and Luke together.

FROM ASK AUSIELLO:

Question: I heard that Lauren Graham sent the season-finale script back to David Rosenthal because she didn't like it. Is that true?— Craig Best
Ausiello: "Didn't like" is a little harsh, but, yeah, she requested a few tweaks, which, per my Girls mole, "resulted in some nice changes." One crazy rumor making the rounds is that Lauren wanted fewer Luke-Lorelai scenes. As I mentioned in my latest vodcast, nothing could be further from the truth. The details about who does what changed, but the amount of time they're on screen together is just the same. And it's just as significant to their story line.

Question: OMG, is the CW ever going to tell us if the Gilmore Girls is ending? What in the H-E-double-hockey-sticks is going on over there?— Rebecca
Ausiello: Turns out, there's no huge rush to make a decision. I'm told Episode 22 can serve as either a series or a season finale. So, theoretically, they can continue negotiating with Lauren and Alexis right up until the CW upfront on May 17. That said, I hear things are looking up.

It looks like there WILL be an eighth season.

Negotiations to bring Gilmore Girls back for an eighth season took a veddy interesting turn on Friday. According to multiple sources embedded deep inside Stars Hollow, Lauren Graham — she on which all things hinge — is allegedly warming to the idea of returning for a shortened season, a la Friends and Everybody Loves Raymond.

Word of this condensed scenario was "the talk of the set" on Friday, one day before shooting on the show's current season was scheduled to wrap. My spy was quick to add, however, that nothing's official and it's very possible this whole thing could unravel before anything's signed. One thing seems clear though: this little nail-biter is speeding toward a climax.

Question: I'm excited to hear about the possible shortened eighth season of Gilmore Girls. Got anything new to report on that front?— Heather
Ausiello: At the show's wrap party Sunday night, everyone and their sister was talking about the short order as if it was a done deal. The only sticking point appears to be the number of episodes. I'm hearing 13, but I imagine the CW is trying to stretch that to at least 16. An official announcement is imminent.

Well David, it looks like your prediction about a 13 episode 8th season was right.

I'm glad to hear the news. To tell the you truth though , I prefer a shortened season. And I want them to be better than some of the episodes we had this past year....And please David Rosenthal, NOT SO MUCH DRAMA next season! And MORE PARIS, EMILY, and the STARS HOLLOW TOWNIES!

I guess a half a season is better than nothing.

BUT...

I hope they're not going to stretch these 13 eps over a regular TV season.

I really don't want to wait weeks on end for one or two new episodes followed by repeats and more waiting.

No, not yet. I'm trying not to get my hopes up since just a few weeks back people were saying that we should start saying our goodbyes. I'm hoping that the CW will announce something soon.

I'm hoping that it might return in September and maybe finish up in February sweeps.

That's true...if you're going to do that, you might as well give us a full season.

Well, Rory is about to graduate, so her story is pretty much complete to where I thought it would originally end. Laurelai's story still needs som closure. I think she will ultimately get back with Luke this year. But another year will be needed to lead up to their wedding. I say it will last one more year and then it will be done.

Question: Thanks for keeping us updated on the nail-biting situation that is Gilmore Girls' possible eighth season. Please give us the latest update, even if it's that things are the same.— Heather M.

Ausiello: The 13-episode deal should've been signed, sealed and delivered by now. Something's obviously holding up the works. Maybe Sally Struthers is playing hardball.

This was just posted today on the Gilmore Girls news.com website and it's not good.

Although all indications were that Warner Bros. and the CW were nearing a deal to bring Gilmore Girls back for a shortened eighth season, sources close to the negotiations now tell me that talks are at a complete [Gulp] standstill.

"It’s anybody’s guess what’s going to happen," reports my Gilmore mole. "There’s no deal in place at this point, and there may never be. This is probably going to come down to the wire."

The holdup can be summed up in five words: Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel. According to the insider, "very good" offers were made to both actresses, but it apparently wasn’t enough to coax signatures out of them. "Now it’s a game of chess," whispers the spy. "It could go either way."

Further complicating matters is the fact that the CW’s upfront presentation — the unoffical deadline for a deal to be brokered — is scheduled for May 17. What’s so complicated about that, you ask? Well, that’s two days after the show’s potential swan song airs. In other words, if negotiations literally go down to the wire, we won’t know if we’re watching the season or series finale.
