"Through the Years," by Charles Fox and Stephen Geyer, performed by Roberta Flack

Life is such a sweet insanity.
The more you learn, the less you know.
In the heart of every family, there's a love that starts by letting go.

Step by step and day by day, reaching out along the way.
Hand in hand we face our fears, together through the years.

We've got closer, through happiness and tears
And in our hearts we share, the laughter and the sadness.
A special kind of madness, together through the years.

Life is such a sweet insanity, it's nice to know your friends are near.
In the heart of every family, there's a love that's waiting there for you.
Through the years...

There are several great themes in television. The Hogan Family theme inspired the themes of Perfect Strangers, Step By Step, and other mid to late 80's songs. of them, The Hogan Family theme is by far the most gourgeous theme ever written! One reason is because of the accompaniments. Another thing is that I love the the opening theme credits. If they were to show the WRigley Field marquis in the end of the third verse that would have been even more lovely. Finally, there is no better vocalist than Roberta Flack. SHe sung it like she was the star of the show.

The lyrics are "We get closer" instead of "We've got closer", as the song is sung in the present tense.
