My apologies for using the F-bomb, but take a look at this:

Everyone here has been begging for the "Make Room for Daddy Pilot" and "Return to Mayberry" for years, ever since AGS started being released on DVD. Instead, we got the old greased pole.
As the proud owner of all 8 seasons of AGS, this makes me truly sick and angry. I'm going to write a letter to the scumbags at Viacom and I hope everyone here will do the same.

well; we should have seen this coming after they did the same thing with FRIENDS and MASH-exept FRIENDS doesn't have any extras. They've also done it with THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW. Lets just hope that they get so many complaints; that they release the extras sepretaly; like FOX is doing with MASH because they've been getting A LOT of complaints about that set.

..Jim- "THE DANNY THOMAS SHOW" {the 1957-'61 episodes shown as "MAKE ROOM FOR DADDY"} is NOT owned by Viacom....the rights to the episode where Andy Griffith first appeared as "Sheriff Taylor" in 1960, are controlled by SFM Media Corp. "THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW", due to the deal that Thomas and his partner Sheldon Leonard made with CBS, is owned by Viacom.
Apparently, Viacom didn't (or couldn't) get the rights to include that episode in their DVD box set. And the same probably applies to "Return To Mayberry" as well.

well then; why is "Return to Mayberry" being included in the box set if they probably couldn't get the rights to it? That doesn't make sense; according to what you're saying.

My apologies...I thought "Return To Mayberry" WASN'T going to be in the box set. Viacom WOULD have to own that TV movie to include it, so you're right about that. But SFM Media still owns the rights to that "DANNY THOMAS" episode, so don't expect it to turn up in a Viacom box set any time soon.

The pilot episode found on this latest "all-season" boxed set is the same one found on the Make Room For Daddy Season 5 DVD set. It's a syndicated version which is about 2 and a half minutes shorter than the original version.
Since I own original VHS tapes of both the uncut pilot and Return To Mayberry, I said "no thanks" to the new Andy Griffith boxed set. These two programs should be made available on DVD (and uncut) separately for the fans that opted to buy each season as they came out (at a higher overall price!). After all, they did have to deal with defective disc issues that have since been fixed.
