I don't think they should have gotten together mainly because they were such good friends. I think it might have ruined their friendship if it hadn't worked out.

That would have been too obvious and it would've ruined the show.

just cuz they are good friends and gay doesn't mean they should have ended up together. I use to think they should be together but now i think it was best they stay friends.

I disagree. Will and Jacko being a couple would ruin their friendship and the show.

PS- Does anyone else remember the episode where Jack was bidding on Ebay and got the Ricky Martin scooter????

Definitely not. They were way too different. Will is smart & cultured while Jack's an airhead of the first order. As friends, it generally worked, although the friendship had more of a father and son edge to it, given the vast differences in maturity and intelligence. But as a couple it would have been way to clicheed and obvious. Had the show gone that route, I think it would have likely been a one hit wonder.

I would say that, peronality wise, Will and Jack were about as different as Felix and Oscar. Incedentially, because of how feminine Felix was, viewers tended to giggle and gossip that maybe he swings from the other side. If you ad his manerisms to the fact that he lives with his best friend who is a man, you "really" set him up for ridicule! At one point someone told me that, to keep viewers from getting any ideas about them being "more than just best friends" they worked mention of one of the divorces into almost "every" episode! Almost every week, one of the roomates would say something about his ex-wife or how painful the divorce was or something of that nature. This was done intentionally so that viewers would not be getting any ideas. I would say that, in the same way the Felix and Oscar would not work out as anything other then best friends, neither would Will and Jack.

Indeed. Swinging from the other side was not treated kindly in the late 60s and early 70s on TV. In fact, the only show that addressed being gay in an intelligent and highly sensitive way was All In The Family. In a season one ep, where Archie thinks Mike & Gloria's quiet and refined friend is gay, while it's really Archie's very macho ex-football player drinking buddy. It was astounding to see a show so intelligently address the issue at this time on TV. And this wasn't the only controversial issue it so sensitively tackled--there were others--miscarriages, rape, cancer.

If I were to name the best TV show ever, it would be All In The Family, it was so groudbreaking AND AT LEAST 30 YEARS AHEAD OF IT'S TIME!

But I digress. W&G imade inroads too (and was very funny and fine show) in its own right.

I think that the last poster had some "very" interesting ideas in both the last post and three posts ago! The consensis seems to be that Will and Jack would "not" have worked as a gay couple! Also, this person made some very interesting comparasons between this show and "All in the Family". I will agree that "All in the Family" was a "great" series and "very" ahead of its time! I thing that they did a "wonderful" job of not only handling gay issues but a "lot" of other things that were going on at the time! I think that the writers even made an effort to by fair to the conservitive point of view. Archie Bunker "by all means" had some characteristics that made him "very" likable! He was kind of like Ralph Kramdan and Fred Flintstone before him and Homer Simpson after. Some people have also made compatisons between him and Stanley Roper and Al Bundy. However, I think that these two guys had more in common with each other than either had with Archie. If anyone is interested, I will be "happy" to elaborate on that opinion at a later date! In the meantime, I would just like to raise one more thing. What does the last poster (or anyone else) think of my comparison between differences in personality between Felix and Oscar and Will and Jack?
