As an owner of all the Three's Company box sets who just purchased Season 4 last weekend, I must give credit where credit is due. The character of Lana Fields was a great move. Her existance gave the show a nice little boost! Too bad she was only on for one season. Any thoughts about the character of Lana Fields?

I liked her character on the show. She was the older woman to Jacks younger
man even though didn't too much happen with it. Wouldn't it have been good
to keep her around for several seasons? They could have come up with some
good story lines for her & Jack.

Lana Shields was a great idea. I have read that there was strife amongst the girls about how prominenta role Ann was getting. Like yourself, I too would have liked to see Lana's role expanded. I found Ann Wedgeworth's chemistry with John Ritter and Don Knotts was surprisingly good! I laughed so much watching her first episode on the show as a Jack's date and Mr. Furley's crush.

Ironically enough, her exit came the season before all the turmoil on the set occurred surrounding Suzanne Somers' contract demands. Would have been nice to see Lana's character in Season 5 when the show could have really used her.

Okay, I'll cast the "nay" vote here. Personally, I thought she was an extraneous character who really didn't serve a purpose. The whole older woman/younger man thing would have made for a good episode, but that's it.

I don't think she added much to the show and the producers realized that and that's why they let her go.

I have to agree. The whole thing got old fast.

I think so too. She provided a couple good story lines for a couple of episodes, but she was very one dimensional. And, Jack resisting her just made him seem out of character.

Was she really on for ONLY 1 season?????? I could've sworn it was longer than that. I agree she was good and they probably could've used her for another season.

I think people may have gotten tired of her constantly pining for Jack and rejecting Furley but they could've still used her in other creative ways even if they didn't use her in every episode for another season.

While we are on the topic of Lana, I would like to write about one particular episode that she was a part of. This episode was called "The Love Barge". In this episode, I think that there were three wrongs but that both of the girls were more wrong than Jack. To refresh everyone's memory, this is the episode where Jack was offered a job on a cruise ship while he was still a student. Early in the episode, Jack mentioned how the job did not pay very much but that he got to take a friend. At this point, both of the girls started to optimistically think that he might ask her. Jack, on the other hand was thinking with his hormones and started going through the book to see which babe he might be able to score with! In the first place, I am going to have to agree with Jack that, because he could only take one guest, it would not be fair for him to ask one and not the other. It would be human nature for the other to feel hurt. Also one common theme of the show was the three of them always having a hard time making ends meet. Maybe they should have concentrated on how to best use the money that the job does pay. Also, with Jack's food and lodgeing paid for for a week, they should have been thankful for the money that the trio does not have to spend on that. However, because Jack did get to take a guest free of charge, I can understand him wanting to capitalize on this by taking a female companion. However, I think that the main focus of their attention should have been ecconomic. Also, if Jack did take one of the girls, the other would be alone in the apartment for a week. The girls' ability to keep each other comapny is another reason why I do not think that he should have taken one of them. However, there is one aspect in which I will agree with all three of them. Taking Lana on the trip was not the answer!

Taking Lana on the trip PLUS getting PAID and getting a FREE cruise would've been worth it. But this is where TV is SO fake because in real life Jack would've taken one of his hot girlfriends and never considered one of the roomates unless they put out which they wouldn't have. LOL

These days Lana would be a MILF or "cougar" and Jack would have been all up for the chance!

I enjoyed Ann Wedgeworth in "Filthy Rich" and in the film Steel Magnolias.

While we are on the topic of "Desperate Housewives" there is something that I would really like to know from someone who watches it. Is Felicity Hoffman still a part of it? I think that she is really hot! I have posted a bunch of messages about her over on the "Frasier" page. For those of you who do not know, she made a couple of guest appearances on that series. I really enjoyed a pair of patient leather boots that she wore on one episode! Wow!

Lana was a very attractive woman. Jack not liking her was so out of charachter. In the episode with the ropers, where jack dates mrs ropers cousin or aunt(not sure the relation) well anyways she was definitely in her 40s or 50s and no where near as attractive so the whole jack not liking lana really made no sense.

John Ritter actually said in an interview that Lana was very beautiful and one of the reasons I think she left is they didn't know what to do with her anymore and it got old for to keep pining for Jack. I was surprised to hear that Lana was only on the show for ONE season. I thought it was at least 2.

BTW, Lana was indeed very attractive and he body was better than any other girl on the show. She was very curvy and voluptuous.

I like Ann Wedgeworth as an actress. I liked her on Evening Shade but I just never felt like she fit in on TC. She was pretty but I never thought she was among the prettiest women who appeared on the show. I guess I was young at the time and was noticing the other girls. lol

It wasn't that she wasn't attractive, Jack just felt she was a lot older than him. She was more suited for Furley's age range

I think they already had enough characters as it was. There were the three leads (Jack, Chrissy & Janet) plus two main supporting characters (Larry & Furley). For a half hour show, that's enough really.

They could've kept Lana on longer as a recurring role but maybe not a regular. Lana had a repoire with Jack, Furley, and even Larry to a certain extent so they could've and should've kept her on longer.
