They have to call in sick to work?

I don't like having to call in sick. I know sometimes it's best to stay home and not spread even more germs around the school, but it still stinks to be sick. If I'm going to have a day off, I'd like to be healthy and enjoy it.

I think it's a natural feeling to have and still wonder why I have that feeling when the company gives me sick days so I CAN use them-lol I always get that-"They probably think I'm bullsh*tting" feeling. But my advice is to never call out on a MONDAY or FRIDAY, doesn;t look good. As long as you call out on a Tue, wed, or thur, then you are fine

I get that feeling sometimes too. I try not to call out on a Monday or Friday if I can help it. After being sick all night, I knew there was no way I'd make it to work today.

I don;t think it's any think wrong with using a personal day on a Monday

I never feel guilty. If you are sick, you are sick. Illness doesn't pick and choose days.

No if I'm really sick I would call out on a monday but I try to do everything I can not to call out on Monday. If next Monday wasn't a holiday I would have called out tomorrow

I do, but thats because when I call out Im not really sick. I rarely get sick, and if I am I try to go to work and then get sent home. I called out a few weeks ago because I was so fed up with the place and wanted a 'me' day and the next day everyone was saying how worried they were because I never call out and they knew I was scheduled in the desk which is my favorite job so they thought I mustve been really sick :lol:. Depends on who picks up the phone, the more nervous I get. If its like a friend I dont care since they call out themselves for no reason sometimes, so they understand when I need a me day.

I've never taken a "me" day, although there have been quite a few times when I've wanted to.

Yes, because I figure everyone thinks I'm faking it (my parents included pissed: ), but no, because that's the last place I want to be healthy, let alone sick. Enough lazy parents send their kids to school sick to cough all over me, so guess what? I'm staying home and the school can work around me.

I used to...but at my old job, they treated me so badly, that I sincerely got to the point that I just didn't care anymore!

I used to feel very guilty when calling in sick, and sometimes I still do, but I'm getting used to it. I have a chronic disease that will remain with me for the rest of my life, so calling in sick is going to be a fact of life, and my employer knows that and know what's going on with me.

The last few weeks, I've missed word more often than not due to a bad flareup.

I've learned that when you're fighting something - be it a bad cold, the flu, or chronic pain, it's easier to recover when your mind isn't riddled with guilt. :)

Niiice. If we had that, I wouldnt feel bad. I work in customer service too and people call out all the time, some a LOT so I didnt feel too bad since I call out like, once a year.

Kind of, since the theater was understaffed for most of the time I worked there. :grr:

My last job was like that too. I hate having to find someone to cover my job. My current job is sort of like this, but if you call in sick, the secretary usually calls someone for you. You have to find people for vacations sometimes though. Ugh.

No, not really. If I am sick, then I am going to call in. Besides, what is the point going into work if I am sick? So I can make everyone else sick too?

I get paid sick leave at my job. I have accumulated sick leave since I started working fulltime on March 2000. I would hardly use my sick leave during the first couple of years, so they carried over during every academic year. Right now I have 400+ hours of paid sick leave! It comes in handy when I need them. Some of my co-workers are stretched thin on paid sick leave, and I feel sorry for them when they really need it for themselves and/or caring for their kids/spouse.

I also feel guilty when I have to call in sick. I skipped out on three full days the week before last due to that nasty head cold. Just like some have already mentioned, I tend to be paranoid that people will start thinking I am "faking" my illness or even my headache attacks. There were various times when I had to use my sick leave for headache attacks. Even if I feel paranoid, I still use my sick leave.

I only feel guilty calling in sick when i'm not sick, which I have done more than a few times in the past.

But i have been good the past year or so. Now I only call in sick when i actually get sick, but i don't think my co-worker believes me all the time.
He's one of those guys who never ever gets sick or misses work, and gets mad at you when you get sick and miss work.
To him "sick" means you are so physically ill that you have to go the the hospital. You can work if you have a cold, in his mind.
Last month i missed two days of work becasue i had a cold, and he was pissed at me that A. i got sick and B. I didn't see a Doctor because being out two days in a row means you should really be ill.

Did i mention how little i miss working with this guy since I got laid off?
