View Full Version : Will there really be a Complete Series Box Set released?
Robert 13 02-09-2007, 01:28 PM I remember reading that there were plans to release a comprehensive box-set of "I Love Lucy" with all seasons plus "Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour" following the release of "7th, 8th & 9th Seasons" set. Someone had posted an article where they interviewed someone involved in the releases and he mentioned the enormous fan following that warrant further lifespan of the show on dvd. Does anyone remember reading this???
**UPDATE** The Andy Griffith Show was just announced as a Complete Series box-set. They have also done this with The Brady Bunch. So it looks likely that I Love Lucy will also get the Complete treatment. The question is...what will they include as an exclusive bonus to the set?
Madame X 02-10-2007, 10:53 PM I don't remember reading this. The "Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour" is something separate from "I Love Lucy." The best bet for you is to purchase the ILL boxed set, and then get the LDCH separately, as I am eagerly awaiting.
Does anyone else have more current info?
Benno123 02-11-2007, 10:15 AM My guess is if this does happen, then additional footage will be released along with the box as bonus material. Like TAGS which will include the Return To Mayberry movie as well as the pilot episode from The Danny Thomas Show, my guess is that if there is a Lucy set that it will probably include the release of the "lost" ILL movie if that is not included on the Comedy Hour set that will be out next month.
Besides the movie, there isn't much ILL-related material left that needs to be released. There's still a few things that could be included, like Lucy on The Ann Sothern Show, and Lucy and Desi as the Ricardos on The Danny Thomas Show[/I and [I]The Milton Berle Special. Besides that, I can't think off the top of my head what is left in the vaults besides commercials!
Larry Surrell 02-11-2007, 04:43 PM The "Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour" is something separate from "I Love Lucy."
Amazon.com is calling The Lucy Desi Comedy Hour I Love Lucy Seasons 7-9. However, I noticed at Costco the other day that they're selling an I Love Lucy Seasons 1-6 box set and calling it the complete series.
I seem to remember that before ILL season 6 was released they were also selling a season 1-5 box set, so who know what CBS will do in the future.
Robert 13 02-12-2007, 01:33 PM Funny I posted this message last week. Since then, we have received news of a complete series box-set for The Andy Griffith Show as well as news that Paramount is working on a complete MacGyver set. So it looks likely that they will do the same for I Love Lucy.
Benno123, I have the same question. I don't know what is left to release. I also thought the Make Room for Daddy episode. Besides that, who knows? It will be interesting to see if they include LDCH as part of the set even though we, as fans, do distinguish it as separate.
Bill S. 02-12-2007, 08:18 PM Have they ever released the I Love Lucy pilot on DVD? I have it on VHS, as "The Very First Show," (http://www.amazon.com/I-Love-Lucy-Very-First/dp/6303095194/sr=1-1/qid=1171325696/ref=sr_1_1/104-1234337-7392740?ie=UTF8&s=video) but I don't own any of the DVD's yet, so I don't know if it's ever been included. If not, it would be pretty cool to see that added to the collection.
Kazza 02-12-2007, 09:20 PM The pilot episode is on the Season I set. It has been restored some.
gidgetgrape 02-12-2007, 11:49 PM I've never read anything about a set combining "I Love Lucy" and "The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour." Last year around Christmas, there was an article floating around about the "I Love Lucy" DVDs being repackaged into one big set (like the "Sex and The City" Collector's Giftset). There is suppose to also be a high definition version of the show in the works.
Benno123 02-13-2007, 09:46 AM Nothing has been reported for releasing an entire series set of Lucy, it's just speculation. However, if current trends of popular series on DVD shows what to expect, with the release of complete series sets of shows like Friends, M*A*S*H, and the announcement of the complete Andy Griffith Show, it's very possible for a complete series release of ILL.
For Bill S, I think the Danny Thomas episode with the Ricardos was released on VHS back in the 90s when several episodes of the show was released. However, I never could find the tape and I've never seen the episode -- yet!
