I'm usually very aware of fakes, but I was duped by this one. I'm now in the process of claiming back that DVD payment via Paypal.
I sent an email to the address that "Kenan" provided for those unreleased DVDs, and it came back straight away saying no such email address. *DING* - my eyes finally open up:
- His profile image wearing the yellow shirt - looks like some high school photo or lame promo pic. If I were Kenan (or ANYONE on Myspace), I'd use a much better/cooler photo.
- The unnecessary swearing on the page. Doesn't seem like someone trying to create a somewhat professional approach to fans.
- How convenient that the Paypal address is UK located. Hence "Kenan" makes up a story about the DVDs only being released in the UK - that's why your payment gets converted to UK pounds.
- No pic of the supposed DVD and no info? All he says is that it's the first season of the show and "it is good".
- The fact that his hero (on the left hand side of the page) is the dad character from the Kenan and Kel show. Right.
- He lists "Good Burger 2?" as one of his favourite films? Kenan and Kel have gone separate ways. And even if they got back together, it sure wouldn't be for Good Burger 2. The first one barely scraped by financially (though it was funny).
According to Paypal, this fraudster's name is Jake/John Amin. That's where the money's going. Well, I haven't had a problem claiming a payment back from Paypal in the past, so hopefully I'll be successful again.
I just did a search on MySpace for Jake/John Amin. Two profiles came up, and the guy is based in the UK. Sounds like we have a winner:
http://www.myspace.com/thehulk316 (you can see the same pic of Kenan on this page)
http://www.myspace.com/raindancekid (not much content on this one)
EDIT: Just thought I'd let you know that the person willingly provided a refund (after I opened the Paypal dispute) and stated there "was a problem with the DVDs".
