He called Lionel the N word in Blazing Jeffersons in year 8. I don't recall him using ZEBRA after The Announcement the first show in year 6 where Jenny announced she was pregnant, although he did make racial slurs about her and the Willises up to the episode in which Jessica was born (The Arrival pt 2). The joint grandparenting made him tone down. He also calls the white land developers Honkies at the end of the 4 part Hawaii episode.

There were no more racial slurs by George after the 1981-82 season

Looking at the 79-80 season episodes this week, by far was a good season for the show and the cast seemed more revitalized after being on the brink of cancellation in the previous season, you can see George was beginning to toned down his racial slurs. His calling Tom honky and calling the Willis' marriage zebra took did not come out as funny and Sherman Hemsley was not liking it any longer. I just did not like the fact that him and Tom became friends. That friendship was overplayed.

Year 6 is very entertaining and i can't think of any show from this year that I would consider a weak episode. Mike Evans is also more involved this year (and seems to be happy to be back at work) than he was in year 7 from which he was largely absent. The George/Tom friendship starts this season (from memory Brother Tom may be the first one where they are seen in a reasonably civil social relationship- he and Louise are visiting the Willises along with that other couple. Also note the very last show of the year the fairy tale episode the Jeffersons, Willeses and Lionel/Jenny were all going to go out to the theater or dinner - George wouldn't have been caught dead socializing with them like that before Jessica came into the picture. Joint grandparenting was what ultimately toned him down and its realistic (although it made the show less outrageously funny)
