Loving parents Steven (Michael Gross) and Elyse Keaton (Meredith Baxter-Birney) raise their kids with open hearts and open minds. Growing up in the 1960s, Mom and Dad share a liberal point of view, and guide their family with the ideals and convictions of flower power at its best. Their offspring, however, have different ideas. Eldest son Alex P. Keaton is an over-achieving, hard-core Republican, and clashes with his parents at every turn. Mallory is a fashion-loving, boy-crazy teen stuggling through high school, while little sister Jennifer is the precocious tomboy who always speaks her mind. Together, they share the moments that make them laugh, make them cry...and make them family.

Great review, it's too bad about some of the music being edited and scenes being cut. Although the music did not make the show it's still nice to have original uncut unedited episodes. Despite this I am still excited the show is being released to DVD and will no doubt purchase Season 1 of Family Ties. I am hoping Season 1 sales are great and CBS/Paramount releases all the later subsequent seasons. Family Ties along with The Facts of Life, Silver Spoons, Mr. Belvedere, Webster and Gimme a Break were the main shows I grew up watching in the 80's. :)

Not only is it not nice to not hear the original songs and a few scenes cut, but it's also not interesting to see Paramount TV '82 (or '81) replaced with CBS/Paramount Television!! Grrrr.... :mad: :mad:

I'm guessing the original songs were cut out for copyright reasons.

That seems strange that it will have a CBS logo esp. since it was a NBC show not a CBS show.

CBS and Paramount (who own Family Ties) are part of Viacom. NBC was simply the network that bought the the show... Just as NBC (now Universal) produces programs on other networks etc.
The episodes better have the production tag thought (sit ubu sit...) though :)

We really need to communicate with the PTB's at certain companies to keep all the classic elements of these programs!

As for the closing logos...does Paramount have something against the Blue Mountain? They saved the Split Boxes (even on Happy Days, where it hasn't been seen since its original broadcast, I think!) but the Blue Mt. programs either had the Viacom Mountain or now CBS-Paramount. Kind of like how Sony often spares Screen Gems and Embassy, but wants to pretend Columbia never had a TV arm.

I'm really glad that Family Ties will be available on DVD but the fact that they really cut some scenes because of that stupid music lisence is a bit disappointing.
I remember they did that also with an other show,I think it was Quantum Leap,but nevertheless the european Version was unedited.

When I went to Wally World to pick up Bosom Buddies, I saw Family Ties there as well.

So, 'Family Ties' will be next on the list. I've been wanting that one for so long too...

S'pose even though the shows may be edited a bit, it's still nice to have them...
yet it still would make for good memories to have them as they were.
Perhaps one day they'll be able to release them like them in their original format.

I rented this from the library over the weekend and totally enjoyed it!!! It's the first time I'd ever seen some of these episodes. I also never knew that Dick Sargent and Jack Riley had guested on this show. :lol:
