Art Monk keeps getting snubbed, and I don't like it one bit. He should have been in there years ago. Thurman Thomas got in today, he got no rings. Art Monk had 3 rings at a time Michael Irvin didn't have 1 yet.

What do you mean finally? He really didn't deserve to get in immediately, and he only had to wait 2 years. Art Monk is really just as deserving.. if not more. He had almost 200 more receptions, more yards and more touchdowns. It's a joke he's not in there. Do you think Irvin would even be there if he played on bad teams?

Considering that some people were thinking his off the field activities would keep him out of Canton or at least push it way back I was surprised he got in today. I agree Art Monk should have been in years ago but that has nothing to do with Michael. Other than Jerry Rice their is no other WR I would have wanted on my team other than Michael Irvin in the 90's.

A radio show was discussing Art Monk and the consensus from the HOF voters was that he was more of a stat compiler in later years.

I'm not saying their weren't other great WR'ers in the 90's, just that I wouldn't trade Michael for any of them. He was a winner and he motivated our team. He made Troy a better QB. If he wasn't there we would have been a one dementional team.

As far as others waiting to get in like Art Monk. I agree I think he should be in and their are others that should be too that have waited a long time. I'm still waiting for 70's Cowboys players like Bob Hayes, Harvey Martin, Too Tall Jones, Cliff Harris and Drew Pearson to get in. It'll be a long wait now if they ever do get in.

Congrats to the playmaker he deserves it. But you guys are right Art Monk should have been in years ago. If he doesen't make it next year the hall of fame voters should seriously undergo some serious drug testing. Another wide reciever that deserves to make it is the bills WR Andre Reed. I believe it was a year or 2 ago but on countdown Michael Irvin even said that Andre Reed should get in.

You're absolutely right about those '70s Cowboys... I think that two things hurt them in the voting over the years (1) the two loses in the Super Bowl to the Steelers and (2) It's possible that some writers from that era (who later became voters) resented the "America's Team" image that the Cowboys always projected during that time.

Those are really the only reasons I can think of to even TRY to explain the rationale of the HOF voters.

The Football HOF voting has always been more confusing and difficult to understand that either the baseball or basketball HOFs...

I'm a Steelers fan, but watching the Steelers AND the Cowboys during the 70s was incredible... I expected the HOF to be flooded with players from both teams by the time they all became eligible. But off the top of my head, I'm thinking that Staubach, Dorsett and Randy White might be the only guys from those two Cowboy Super Bowl (X and XIII) teams to have been enshrined. (I think a couple of guys from their early 70s teams are probably in).

John Stallworth retired in 1987, but had to wait through TEN years of eligibility before he was elected (2002). Lynn Swann retired in 1982, and had to wait FOURTEEN years before he was elected in 2001. That was just flat-out ridiculous. The voters HAVE to have slept through several Super Bowls in order to make these guys wait that long. Swann and Stallworth were as good a pair of "big game" receivers as anyone who ever played the game, up to and including Jerry Rice. They also achieved what they did against better Super Bowl competition that Rice had.

And Michael Irvin was a great, great player...but imo, his fans have nothing to complain about... it didn't take him very long at all to get in, compared to other guys with better credentials... but congratulations to Michael and his fans, he deserves it!

I don't know what it's going to take to get a fair representation for those mid-late 70s Cowboy teams. It's obvious that the HOF voters really don't know what they're doing in a lot of cases.

Now, I would like someone to look at these career stats of all these great receivers and give me an "honest", legitimate reason why Art Monk is not in the Hall Of Fame!! And why Michael Irvin is in way before him?? It doesn't make any sense!! Art Monk had all or most of the league records at one time and was doing things that were unheard of at that time in the NFL. He was also the 1st receiver to post 100 receptions in a season in NFL history with 106. Just because he had a quiet demeanor & didn't "show-boat" or trash-talk like that other "PLAYMAKER" should be no reason to keep him out of the Hall. Monk's records show that he has Irvin beat hands down- except for the lousy Pro Bowl invite!! Then again- in 12 years 5 Pro Bowls ain't that good either for Irvin!! I mean, Monk's got more receptions, yards, TD's, & also won 3 Super Bowls & made it to a 4th!!! This is a complete lack of respect for one of the greatest receivers the game has ever seen. Monk was the Rice & Irvin of his day before those 2 even got their careers underway!!! What the hell does it take..........
