Guys,

When a scene called for Cousin Itt to "talk," did the producers use a tape recorder or a record going at high-speed for his voice that only The Family could understand? How was his voice generated? it would be cool if they just played Itt talking (pun intended) at high-speed!

Addams Family Project: Slow down the speed of the voice and actually understand what Itt says? LOL!

this is discussed in the 1st volume of the Addams Family DVD. I can't remember the answer. But I know that the actor who played cousin itt (felix something) did not supply the voice. he talks about meeting the person who did it years later someplace. I think the person was a crew member on the set. I wish I could remember the answer for you. I know that he discusses it during 1 of the episodes that he was doing commentary on with Pugsley and Wednesday. If you get the dvd, watch the episodes with the commentary and you will get your answer. I think it was on the last disk.

The voice was provided by the late Tony Magro, a sound engineer. It was claimed that the voice you hear was not sped up or recorded backward but was merely nonsense-speak that Tony did in a funny high-pitched voice, recording different appropriate reactions for each of Itt's scenes. They did start using a generic "Itt track" in the latter part of the second season though.
