View Full Version : Which character got on your nerves?
A.D.A. Casey Novak 02-03-2007, 09:51 AM First off, I love this show and I think the actors were all good. But certain ones just grated on my nerves. As much as I like LM, some of her scenes (especially in the last couple of seasons) made me cringe. She was so over-the-top and sort of embarrassing. None of the others really annoyed me all that much. Oh yes, there was Crystal. I couldn't stand that way she walked. I'm not quite sure what her purpose on the show was.
Ireneparalegal 02-03-2007, 11:52 AM Being a huge Roseanne fan, there was no one character that annoyed me. I love them all. However, like you pointed out, there were times when the characters just irritated the sh*t outta me for one reason or another.
Roseanne: Her demeaner and behavior in the later seasons. She was sarcastic WAAAAY TOOOO MUCH. She seemed unhappy, she was not the usual jovial self as she was in the early seasons. She almost always had a sad or mad look on her face, rarely happy (except when they won the lotto). Even during her pregnancy episodes, Roseanne was not the same...that baby shower episode showed such a callous Roseanne as if she didn't give a damn that she was having a baby.
Becky: Ok, this is the character that ANNOYED ME. Not the original Becky, the substitute Becky. She was not the same. I don't mean by looks, but by how the NEW BECKY acted and behaved. That Becky did and said things that the OLD BECKY would not have.
Darlene: How she cheated on David. I realize she fell in love too quickly with David and therefore, was missing out on her teen years by sticking with one guy, however, she treated David shabbily, and then turns around and marries him later.
Jackie: God, when she turned into that mannish person, no longer looking like a woman, no longer wearing dresses, always dressed up like the trucker that she was, that was soooooo boring and stupid.

Do you mean after she had the baby or before that?
Ireneparalegal 02-03-2007, 12:31 PM ooops let me re-edit my post
Ireneparalegal 02-03-2007, 12:32 PM As for Jackie, I meant how she was after the baby.
JuicyCoutureGirl 02-04-2007, 02:53 AM The Second Becky got on my nerves, she was too valley girl for the character and sounded like she was reading from cue cards.
I always liked David but he needed a backbone, he was the white Elvin(Cosby Show).
I must say I hated the Nancy character later on, I was pleased that Roseanne brought on a lesbian character but I had a huge problem with the way it was handled...
Nancy declared herself a lesbian but later on liked a man. It was fine if she declared herself as a bisexual but she declared herself to be a lesbian. For her to go back and forth brought on the old idea that clueless straight people had about lesbianism "a good man will turn her back"..
Heist81 02-04-2007, 03:49 AM I still maintain Jackie becoming Barney Fife really destroyed the character. She still had funny moments but it was not as consistent.
Nancy was pointless post Season 6, I liked her before that though.
If I'm feeling particularly cynical, I would say Roseanne gets on my nerves starting with Season 6, when, like Ireneparalegal mentioned, she became way too sarcastic. But, I usually do like her.
Every character has at least a couple episodes or time periods where I don't care for them..
GoldenFamilyTies 02-05-2007, 10:18 PM Crystal.... she was just....... pointless.
snl 70s show fan 02-05-2007, 10:46 PM crystal and bev really grate on my nerves
TheLandfordLunchBox 02-06-2007, 04:37 PM Jackie, Arnie, Nancy
Will and Grace Fanatic 02-07-2007, 12:05 PM I hated the Becky character after she was re-cast. Her character just did things that when Lecy was playing her she would never have done. Such as working at "Buns" plus the fact that Sarah Chalke just didn't play her right. Like someone said it sounded like she was reading from cue cards.
TheLandfordLunchBox 02-07-2007, 07:27 PM I agree ^^ Well put.
coffield3 02-07-2007, 07:29 PM Sorry but wasnt this thread done before?
TheLandfordLunchBox 02-07-2007, 07:30 PM Probably
Scoobiedoo30 02-08-2007, 03:50 PM Nancy
coffield3 02-09-2007, 09:41 AM Id have to say arnie and nancy, and sometimes david.
TheLandfordLunchBox 02-10-2007, 01:33 PM Crystal she was always down and seemed to needy

Nancy was a lesbian, but she wanted a baby and she found Roger to be the perfect speciman. She was only upset abt him skipping town because now her plans to conceive went out the window. She never went back to men.

Oh, I must have stopped watching the show around that time not to remember..

She actualy went back and forth. I remember in one episode during the following season that she had a bad date with another woman and said that she was going back to men for the week and asked if there were any straight guys at the lunchbox. This, of course marked the appearance of Fred, who become the sperm donor for Jackie's baby and future ex-husband.
floyd2006 02-14-2007, 03:46 PM David use to be cool in the early years but in the later years they made him into something of a wuss and than he got on my nerves.
LivinLaarge 02-14-2007, 09:12 PM i did not like darlene or bev.
TheLandfordLunchBox 02-25-2007, 08:42 PM Nancy
Jr1986 04-05-2007, 07:31 PM Arnie always annoyed me. Maybe its because Tom Arnold annoys me. I agree that Jackie became a little too much like Barney Fife towards the end, but I've always liked Laurie Metcalf, so it wasn't that bad. I really couldn't stand DJ in seasons 7-9. I really liked David, except when he acted like such a wuss (more of this happened in the final years.)
An 80s Guy 04-05-2007, 08:53 PM Mark annoyed me in his early episodes.
Karen197488 04-05-2007, 10:00 PM Here are some of my top picks
1. second Becky (didn't like her) & Mark
2. Nancy & Ernie
3. Bev.
Overdose 04-06-2007, 05:27 AM Arnie
Becky #2
Madame X 04-06-2007, 06:33 PM I may be the only one in the world to feel this way (about my all-time 2nd favorite show), but DJ in the middle years is really annoying. He shouted all his lines like he was mad all the time and when he said a line that was supposed to be funny, you can tell he is trying to hide a laugh. Really terrible acting. He was better when he was younger.
Ironically, he was the best cast character, since he looks like Roseanne.
SparkleFarkle 05-11-2007, 11:03 AM crystal and bev really grate on my nervesThey're suppose to!:rotflmao:
dl72190 06-21-2007, 11:04 AM DJ also got on my nerves around Season 5 till maybe the end of Season 8. He was too bratty. Always b*tching about something, or how he treated David.
I also found that Bob guy from the garage annoying.
DJ's "friend" geoge
waichingliu81 06-21-2007, 11:06 AM probably becky because of her constant whining. although darlene wasn't that far off the mark either
Scoobiedoo30 06-21-2007, 12:14 PM who was George
Janice 06-21-2007, 01:35 PM Jackie with her exaggerated facial expressions, all bug-eyed. Overly opinionated, too much to say, a whiner, a blamer, an idiot, in my opinion. I liked her when her character was normal, but they turned her into a fool.
catlover79 06-21-2007, 08:18 PM Bev, hands down. All she did was screech and yell and meddle. I also thought Estelle Parsons was beyond annoying in Bonnie & Clyde - and she walked away with the Oscar!!!
dl72190 06-22-2007, 12:20 AM who was George
George was that annoying friend of DJ's. I think he was only one maybe 2 episodes in Season 6. I know hes on the episode where DJ goes to church. He also was showing DJ his coin collection in another epsiode
liane49 04-25-2013, 10:17 AM I still maintain Jackie becoming Barney Fife really destroyed the character. She still had funny moments but it was not as consistent.

Mark kind of annoyed me with his attitude.
