View Full Version : Best Turn by a Sitcom Star in a Dramatic TV Movie
catlover79 02-02-2007, 05:25 PM I have to call a tie on this one:
Male: Ron Howard (Happy Days, Andy Griffith Show) in the 1981 TV flick Bitter Harvest. He plays a dairy farmer who runs into some VERY hard times. I only saw this movie once, about 12 or so years ago but it has stuck w/ me all this time. I'd LOVE to see it again. What an AWESOME performance. Why wasn't he up for an Emmy in this??
Female: Elizabeth Montgomery (Bewitched) in 1975's The Legend of Lizzie Borden. EM gave a truly chilling, creepy, and powerful performance. You don't think of her as Samantha even for a moment. This performance was Emmy nominated, but it was Katharine Hepburn who took home the trophy. EM was also awesome in The Awakening Land.
What are your thoughts? :)
ssjenk6 02-02-2007, 10:13 PM Sally Field: From Flying Nun to any of her movies!!!!
Tom Hanks: From Bosom Buddies to Forrest Gump, Big, Philadelphia, Castaway!! Need I say more???
Ireneparalegal 02-03-2007, 12:22 AM Sally Field definitely. From Flying Nun to Not Without My Daughter. My God, what an actress.
Nancy McKeon from Facts of Life to that movie The Tracy Thurman Story. BRAVO!!!!!!
This is not a sitcom star, but still worth a mention, Farrah Fawcett from being a dork detective on Charlie's Angels to Burning Bed. AWESOME PERFORMANCE. Didn't she win an award for that?
Also Elizabeth Montgomery played a rape victim in a very controversial tv movie called A CASE OF RAPE. It was very powerful. I seen it when it debuted on television. I believe it only aired once.
Janice 02-03-2007, 01:24 AM Ted Danson in Something About Amelia.
Meredith Baxter Birney in A Woman Scorned: The Betty Broderick Story.

Was that the movie where she's pregnant and in poor health but refuses to abort the baby? If it is, that WAS a good performance.
BensonFan 02-16-2007, 09:50 PM Elizabeth Montgomery and Sally Field (especially in "Sybil"--that movie was unbelievably graphic and dramatic.)

In A Child's Name is that movie based on a true story abt a woman determined to win custody of her sister's son after she was murdered by her husband, a dentist. Brilliant movie. Brilliant acting by Valerie.

True, but that was a theatrical release, not a TV movie.
Madame X 02-13-2010, 07:50 PM Fred Savage & Candace Cameron-"No One Would Tell"
Nancy McKeon-"A Question of Love"
Alyssa Milano-one of those Amy Fisher stories
Mark-Paul Gosselaar-several
catlover79 02-13-2010, 10:17 PM I remember No One Could Tell. Fred Savage made a creepy psycopath - and he also played a similar role on an episode of SVU. I think with this movie he proved he was a lot more than Kevin Arnold.
