View Full Version : Message from sister of Cindy James; UM episode 'Scared to Death'.
purple rose 02-02-2007, 01:51 PM Thanks for inviting me to this message board. I had no idea it existed! Your condolences and best wishes to my family and myself are much appreciated. It is very heart-warming to know there is still so much support out there! Feel free to contact me anytime via my website with questions or insights or thoughts. For those of you who may not have heard, it is www.melaniehack.com.
As rk mentioned a few days ago with a warning, the threatening call on my website is chilling and he thinks it is a female voice leading him to wonder if one of Cindy’s stalkers was a woman even though his impression (from the UM case) was that the perpetrators were male. That particular call was handed over to police by Roy (Cindy’s ex-husband and police suspect for five years) after Cindy’s death in 1989. Roy said it was left on his answering machine in October 1988, two weeks before Cindy was attacked in her driveway.
[Just an offshoot thought here -- I have a copy of another threatening call Roy received and if there is overwhelming positive wishes for people to hear that, I may consider posting it on my site as well, although there is a swear word or derogatory reference in it that I’m not sure I want minors to hear (and that’s why it wasn’t posted as yet). Let me know your thoughts.]
Both calls were sent to the psycholinguistics center for analysis, with RCMP Constable Anderson believing it was Cindy trying to implicate Roy in wrongdoings. The messages were cross-compared with known recordings of Cindy’s voice with the result being “the distortions of the [voice] disguise and the paucity of content preclude judgment regarding the source similarities.” So analysis was unable to determine if it was Cindy, and in fact unable to determine if it was a female voice! So realize your opinions of the voice are subjective, and if you think Cindy made the calls, ask yourself why she would do that. Would she have been frustrated enough with the police not believing her that she took her own actions? Following that train of thought, would Cindy be thinking that by leaving Roy a disguised message he would be scared into admitting or stopping the harassment, or perhaps to help implicate him since she declared the police had been totally useless, biased, and ineffective? Roy also said two men harassed him at his condo around the same time the calls were left, and does that mean Cindy or an accomplice might have hired them? Is that evidence for an accomplice? Or knowing police doubted Cindy, would a perpetrator have been clever enough to disguise his voice to sound like a female (I know men who sound feminine) and thereby throw suspicion back on Cindy to fuel the police’s disbelief? –A very clever scheme. As thinman posted in 2005, this is certainly one of the most intriguing cases UM has ever profiled because legitimate argument can be made for either side.
I have tons of thoughts to throw out – the drugs found in her body were ten times the amount needed to kill her, and an injection site was found in her right arm. How could she have tied herself up if the amount of morphine (if it was injected) in her body meant she would have been in a coma before the end of injection? No needle was found at the site and no containers having residue of morphine tablets (or any of the drugs found in her body) were nearby. An accomplice took them away? –An assisted suicide? A malevolent killer took them away? –Murder?
crystaldawn 02-02-2007, 02:16 PM Hey Melanie! Thanks for posting. :) I'm sure we all have loads of questions and I know you don't want to give away too much with your book soon to come out but I was curious what role do you think Cindy's ex had in all of this? As far as the drugs that ended up killing her I do know that he was a doctor and would certainly know what dosage would be fatal. It seems not much attention was thrown his way as to the possible culprit and I don't really understand why.
dynoguy88 02-02-2007, 03:04 PM Yes, it's a pleasure to have you here, Melanie. (I just love it when friends and family of the people featured on the show stop by.)
The threatening phone calls going on year after year - the books about the case made mention of times when family members, Ozzie Kaban and Pat McBride were present when Cindy would receive them. Were you ever present when they happened?
How often did you see Cindy during those last terrifying years? The books mentioned that there were times where you and your siblings didn't find out about certain attacks or instances until LONG after they happened...which I found odd.
Also, what is your opinion on Cindy's 2 hypnosis sessions where she mentioned that on a boating trip in the early 80's, she saw Roy with a dead couple covered in blood? As I understand it, you and your brother were on this boating trip as well and didn't hear about it until several years later.
purple rose 02-02-2007, 03:09 PM Roy was the major suspect until police found out he was out of the country when one of the attacks occurred (the fire in Cindy's home). Speculation then turned to the possibility he had hired accomplices, or that someone else was doing the harassment - possibly even Cindy. Nobody was sure because there was no proof of anything (although police traced calls showing Cindy absolutely could not have made them, and some incidences occurred when she was in the presence of other people).
As a doctor Roy certainly could have access to narcotics (and could inform someone how to administer drugs, in what dosage, etc.), as could Cindy as a nurse. --And numerous people also, if they knew how to obtain drugs off the street.
purple rose 02-02-2007, 03:24 PM Yes I was present in a few circumstances.
The last time I saw Cindy alive was in July 1988...less than a year later my family was burying her.
Dynoguy, you bring up major issues - how did family know so little - what about the alleged murder incident in 1981. By the way, Ken and I were not present on the boat then. We were on the Peacemaker catamaran in 1978, after which Roy slapped Cindy.
These are major topics that, like the threads of possibilities, are woven into the mystery of her death. I do think hypnosis has "iffy" credibility - it is easy to implant false memories (not intentionally) that seem to be real to the person when they are coaxed out.
About not knowing, we all lived our own lives and Cindy didn't talk that much about what was going on - it's long and complicated, but secrecy and shame and fear played into it.

To Purple Rose:
JESUS! I have been thinking of you for the last 4 weeks.
I am sorry I don't have the time to read the posts above and to reply to them. I work onboard the Fishing Boats off Alaska. Since we don't have a Television. All we have are old TV shows on DVD's.
When I was watching the episode "Scared to Death". My first thought was... "Is this some sort of a BAD JOKE???"
I think that the surviving family of Cindy James needs to sue the Vancouver Police and the Royal Canadian Police for wrongful Death.
According to the show.. Was she murdered? Did she kill herself? What really matters is that there are countless of people including myself experiencing the same type of stalking, harassment and persecutions that Cindy experienced. And the police do NOTHING to prevent any of this.
My place was broken into. According to the police I broke into my own place. My car was vandalized.. Police made me sit on the ground and demanded a confession of why I was the victim of this heinous and vicious hate crime. I went to the post office to send a letter to the District Attorney and the HEROES from the Fire Department in another yet display of power and omnipotence arrived and threatened me. I went back to the post office to send a letter to the Fire Department Chief. Ad the Crime Prevention Officer arrived and stood behind me the whole time.
I got the same threatening and obscene calls. I posted them online According to the police I called myself to terrorize myself.
I have survived countless of attempts to drive me off the road and cutting me off at freeways speeds. The puppet Reporter from the Vancouver Newspaper said that: If Cindy was assaulted, why was she walking the dog during the night?
If those SOB stalkers have attempted to get me into accidents and drive me off the road.. Why I continue to drive?
HA! If those motherless stalkers think for a minute that I am going to be intimidated or bullied into silence. They are dreaming.
And I told the local police... "Maybe you have been out of the police academy for too long but as long as you all continue to allow hate, extremist, anti-government groups and religious fanatics to dictate who you persecute.. You have no hope in preventing crime."
The times were different when all this was happening to Cindy.. The hate calls continue, but I disconnected my voice mail and I will not answer the phone unless I know who is calling. I don't think that Cindy had caller ID.
The police continue to deny that any of this is happening to anyone at all... If we ever get any close to the truth they are going to just plead ignorance and be "shocked".... SHOCKED! to learn what their so called law abiding citizens, innocent homemakers and churchgoers were engaged and "without their knowledge."
There is so much more I would like to share but I got to go back to the Dock because we are ready to depart to the fishing grounds. So I am going to provide you with some links.
I cannot believe that anyone has ever made a connection in between Cindy James and GangStalking. I have been in Seattle and Law Abiding Citizens with British Columbia License plates drove all the Way to Seattle with the sole and express intent to terrorize me. You want to find Cindy James cause of death? Sue the Vancouver Police and The Royal Canadian Police for facilitating gang-stalking and death of Cindy James.
I am by Far one of the most sought after Targeted Individuals at least in the West Coast. Not so much because I am important, but because I move way too much for those hate groups to succeed. In addition I spent most of my time on the high seas. That is the only reason that I have survived those motherless stalkers for almost two decades.

Candice Nguyen from KION is doing a story ion this phenomenon called "Gang Stalking". It has nothing to do with "gangs", rather it is a form of cyber-bullying. The intent is a psychological impact and socially ostracizing the targeted person. With tools available to track someone it has made people more vulnerable to this. It has implications to workplace violence, love relationships gone bad, etc. I told Candice it is like Mean Girls or cyber-bullying on steroids.
Lt Larry Richard #121 Santa Cruz Police Department
[Comment from Attorney Keith Labella] Response to my CA Public Records Act request on gang stalking from Santa Cruz P.D. Notice in Lt. Richard's email to Trisha Husome (Police Administration) he raises "employment violence" as a potential risk in Organized Stalking. If the city of Santa Cruz, population 26,000, is flagging the risk, what is the risk for the U.S. as a whole? Are some of these shootings, etc., related to this?
"In general stalking groups consider themselves to be investigators who are illegally collecting and fabricating evidence to lay criminal charges against their targets. Once that the Target has been identified, stalking groups are ENTITLED to do anything to the target and to harass him or assault her in any way they can. To ensure sucess selection of targets is based on vulnerability. The target must be destroyed to demostrate their power, to train their followers and to intiomidate others. Those who know about them, fear them, participate out of intimidation or will be targeted. Born on the arrogance that nobody can stop them, their power to destroy individuals imbues stalking groups with godlike power and omnipotence... A court will never know what really happened."
Mucho Love and I am really really sorry about what those motherless stalkers did to your sister. I can take a lot alone...But I am NOT willing to allow others to be harmed. I am very sorry I wasn't there to protect her.
Felix T.I.
I am Mexican by the way so i am sorry for the spelling errors.
CanadianUMFan 04-04-2013, 12:23 AM I have watched this segment again the last couple of nights and am more convinced than ever, from what I have seen on UM, that Cindy was an ill woman who committed these acts herself, possibly for attention. For all of these things to happen to her and there not be any hard evidence is difficult to fathom unless one believes that she was being stalked by a ghost.

I've always thought something similar, or at least that there was an original series of incidents that stopped, and that the police, perhaps through a mix of ineptitude and laziness, decided it wasn't worth investigating. Cindy, agrrieved at her persecutor being allowed off scot-free, then started to fabricate at least some of what happened afterwards.
The only other explanation that would make sense, and explain why the incidents dried up as soon as she went under surveillance, is that her tormentor was either involved in law enforcement himself, a police informant or someone in the echelons of 'high society' who, much like an informant, would have a lever with which to obtain information from LE, be it money, threats, favours or whatever.
That the hatred suddenly stopped when Cindy went under surveillance is the biggest single piece of information related to this case IMO.
Spark Of Spirit 04-08-2013, 08:21 PM I've never understood how the "incidents stopped when she was under surveillance" line is an any way a point in favor of the self-mutilation theory. If there was a perpetrator (and that creepy message left by a male voice on the answering machine basically shows there was another party involved that no one knows about) and they were paying as close attention to Cindy as she said then of course they would stop when they cops are watching. I have to say that it doesn't really mean anything either way that there was no activity.
If there was an attacker who was keeping Cindy James under surveillance then they would know the cops were there and would simply wait it out. It might just be me, but I don't understand why this supposed attacker would suddenly jump to the chance to get found by cops he obviously knew was there waiting for him to act.
I'm currently waiting for a copy of Neal Hall's book to learn more, so I'm not 100% sure if she really did it or not, but that one point has always bothered me. It really doesn't point in favor of anything.
