View Full Version : Favorite One Shot Character
catlover79 02-01-2007, 01:40 AM I must admit I really enjoyed the tough, macho (but warm-hearted) bar owner named "Mom". He was featured in the episode "A Small Victory" from season 8. Playing Mom was Peter Schrum, who went on to appear in Gimme A Break. Does anyone else remember him? :happyface
lil_weezy 02-01-2007, 11:12 AM I remember Mom....I loved how he had the menu on his arm...Oh yeah and when he asked what they wanted...I forgot what Helen ordered but Weezy ordered a banana daiquori (however it's spelled)...but it was obviously something that Mom didn't make, so he was like "2 Beers"....so funny.
TVFactFan 02-13-2007, 12:05 PM My favorite one shot character was "THE PIANO MOVER"
"This Piano is too big to take back, a piano this size is just for bringing

I just saw that ep again recently. Helen ordered a "vodka gimlet with a twist" (whatever that is ) and Weezy wanted a "fresh banana daquiri". Then Mom said, "two beers". The ladies said in unison "perfect".
70s show watcher 07-07-2008, 04:52 PM buzz from floerences mr right because he reminds me of some pompus self righthous people ive met and i love when florence said hot dam right before he walked out the door
OKCRay 01-05-2009, 03:44 AM My favorite was Eddie/Edie, George's old navy buddy who had a sex-change operation. That episode was hysterical, but they still handled this sensitive topic quite well.
From the same episode I'd also mention Leroy, who worked for George at the dry cleaners and ended up posing as "Edie" when George couldn't find the real "Eddie" to prove to Weezy that he wasn't dishonest to her.
jamesanthony 01-05-2009, 05:05 PM Kathleen Wilhoite's young neighbor character in State of Mind, Monk Davis in George's Skeleton, Louise's various relatives: her mother, father, sister, Uncle Ward, the call girl in BreakUp pt 2, Louise;s first boyfriend in season 6.
Least favorite: Sammy Davis Jr
Seems like the one shots that really hit it off with the audience were invited back: Florence, Hugo, Garrett Morris
In general, this show had very good guest stars in it. Well into the 80s, there are eps with just one guest star (or even no guest star) and just the core actors. Minus fancy editing, music, clever writing (the writers even admitted that much of what they wrote was mediocre) and a lot of what is considered mandatory today, this show always remained watchable.
TVFactFan 01-05-2009, 05:14 PM The First Alan Willis, shame I never saw him again
Then to make it worst, when the new Alan Wilis came they had him repeated the LINES of the First Alan Willis-lol
I know it was the same character but that was really unecessary
OKCRay 01-06-2009, 03:25 AM Almost forgot another favorite: Abby, the little girl from the "Me and Mr. G" episode. She was so adorable and the way she imitated George's mannerisms was too cute!
Willsatx 01-07-2009, 01:21 AM Mine was Lou Gosset Jr's apperance when he trying to get with Louise, and its so funny when Mother Jefferson hits him with the umbrella. George calling him sick for making a pass at his mother was classic.

Yes, he was. Sherman Hemsley's delivery was just priceless!! :brent
Big3sCompanyFan 01-15-2009, 07:12 PM Definitely the funniest one shot character was that old hilarious doorman the Willises had when they went to that small town for their honeymoon. It was the same small town hotel they stayed at when they got married.
That guy was hilarious! Unless I'm forgetting someone else who only appeared once he was the funniest!
Willsatx 01-15-2009, 10:40 PM I also liked George's navy buddies who scammed Tom out of some money, they were funny and dumb.
CDThe1 01-26-2009, 01:05 PM My favorite was Prudhomme in Season 8's "My Maid, Your Maid." I guess the character herself was not my favorite, but rather everyone's reaction to her.
GEORGE: "Why aren't you working for Mr. Sinclair anymore?"
PRUDHOMME: "... He forced his attentions on me."
GEORGE: "On you!?"
George's reaction was priceless. And Louise telling her off at the end.
LOUISE: "You're a stuffy snob."
PRUDHOMME: "Well, I never!"
LOUISE: "Believe me dearie, it shows!"
Too funny!
