Lumpy: Did you go out for anything, Dud?

Dudley: Well, I went out for football, but I got my finger stepped on, so my mother made me quit.

Eddie: Well listen-- I went out for basketball and I got my hair pulled, and my mother made ME quit.

Dudley: It's not that I was afraid of getting hurt or anything; it's just that-- well, it's kind o' hard to play the flute with a busted finger.

Absolutely, no questions asked, "Keeping Up Appearances" is the best Britcom ever! :-)

Monty Python was great when we first saw it back in the early 70s, although I wouldn't really classify it as a "Sitcom"... But KUA has a perfect cast, perfect writing, perfect everything!

While not a regular viewer of "Absolutely Fabulous", I do like the episodes that I've seen of that show...

I've tried to watch a few other Britcoms on PBS on weekends when they're on, but haven't been able to "get into" them as easilly as KUA...I mean, the first time I saw that show, I was hooked!

As one poster on another web site correctly pointed out, the writers of Cosby (which I don't like) and Seinfeld (which I love) would have to stand on their agents' shoulders in order to kiss the a**es of the writers of KUA..

My all time favorite britcom is 'Allo 'Allo. The show ran for a number of years on the same premise and it was such a screwball comedy. Love the catchphrases such as "you stupid woman" and "Listen very carefully, I shall say this only once." I liked how they were always trying to find out what happened to the fallen madonna with the big boobies.

Mind Your Language is one of my favorites, 'Love Thy Neighbour' is a good one, it reminds me a lot of a UK version of All in the Family. It was so popular that Australia made their own spin off series (same actors) titled Love Thy Neighbour in Australia.

In the last two decades on PBS, I have seen many many Britcoms. And , at least to some degree, I have enjoyed them all when viewing for the first time. But their I some that I notice myself watching over and over again or WISH I could see again. They are the following, in no particular order.

As Time Goes By
Waiting for God
Doc Martin
A Fine Romance
Last of the Summer Wine
To The Manor Born
Fawlty Towers

In 2013, I have seen all of the first season of Hebburn and The Cafe. Not sure if they will become my all time favs but I am definitely looking forward to next season.

Good news for those nostalgic for the past:the tacky Birds of A Feather is making a comeback after fifteen lonesome years and the show has stood the test of time. Regular viewers will know the plot revolves around Essex sisters Sharon and Tracey whose husbands are doing time at Her Majesty's pleasure, leaving them the booty of a beautiful detached house in suburbia to grieve in comfort. Additional comedy emanates from their randy Jewess neighbour Dorian Green, who married for money but keeps a string of lovers in tow whilst her husband is away. I enclose a snippet for the uninitiated to get a flavour of the show. The next thing we need is Hillary Clinton back in the White House and it really will feel like good times have returned.http://metro.co.uk/2013/06/18/birds-of-a-feather-to-return-for-new-series-after-15-years-3845809/

I remember being around 10 (1972 or so) and watching a British sitcom with my mother It was about young interns. I'm thinking it was called Dr. in the House. But I'm not sure? And than a little later about a bus driver and his family? (1973-1974)?

Funny shows!!!

Hard to mention just one, but seeing as almost everyone else has mentioned more than one anyway, I'll do the same.

All-time favorite has got to be 'Allo 'Allo

But Are You Being Served, Mind Your Language, and Fawlty Towers are right up there too.

A pity no one's mentioned 'The Brittas Empire,' which I love too.

And also Coupling. Coupling is hilarious.

Oh and while not so funny as the others mentioned, I like 'To the Manor Born' too.

At the time I thought "Are You Being Served Again" or "Grace And Favour" as it was originally entitled would have been best left unmade, but given the dearth of comedy talent in the interim I hark back to that era as a nonpareil golden age..
