So many obscure shows are already out on DVD so why isn't a full season of one of the biggest hit shows of its time on DVD yet???

Yeah I agree but apparently Warner isn't interested (yet). I've heard the "Favorites" DVD sold poorly and because of that they have no interest at this time.

That's very suprising since Alice was a big hit in its time and many of the other series around then are out on DVD.

By the way, I just bought the Alice Favorites DVD. Too bad they don't have more episodes on it.

I agree...ALICE was very popular in it's original series run. It's a shame really.

Not this year I'm afraid according to Warner.

Not this year I'm afraid according to Warner.

I figure it is Warner's loss. No wonder the disc sold poorly. The true fans of Alice want sets, not a "Best of" disc.
There a still a lot of good episodes that remain unseen on TV and on DVD. I would like DVD sets because I hate watching them on that website Warner has.

You probably saw the "Favorites" DVD that features a handful of episodes from the first four seasons. I think there are 6 episodes in total.

I had a hard time finding the Favorites DVD..had to order it online..none of the major retailer chains have had any copies. Poor marketing on Warner's behalf. They release these "Best Of" DVD's to gauge rather or not there is sufficient public interest. This DVD allegedly has sold less then 5000 units and when I called Warner I was told "no plans this year".

How can sales have any relevance to whether a show comes out on DVD?

Just go to the tvshowsondvd.com site and you will see many shows THAT YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF yet they are on DVD and the producers of those DVDs weren't worried if they would sell enough copies.

With technology these days it would not be hard at all to put just 1 season of ALice on DVD. If that sold poorly then maybe I could understand not doing more.

But considering it was one of the biggest hits of its time and ran for 9 seasons they should have at least 3 or 4 seasons on DVD.

I don't know...I read in Billboard that Warner were issuing these "Favorites" DVD's to see if there would be public interest in full season DVD's. You would think that the time and energy put into these "Favorite" DVD's could have been put into releasing a full season. Warner is notorious for this kind of thing, it's a shame they won't sell ALICE to some other company that would be willing to release it. It's all about making money for some companies and let's face it some of these bigger companies will only release something if they think they can make a profit off of it.

You are right though there are plenty of other shows that have been released on DVD that weren't as popular as Alice. For example, Good Times, a show I really love...they have released every single season on DVD (which I own). The show never did as well as ALICE in the ratings.

I am just as puzzled and annoyed as every one else where this show is concerned. ALICE will always be one of my all time favorite shows and it is amazingly underrated. It's not even shown as reruns anymore.

Didn't Alice used to be on TNN (The Nashville Network) before it changed to Spike TV?

In the mid 90's it was on TNN and the E! Channel. The E! Channel showed random episodes in the morning. TNN ran them in order. When they showed the last episode in 1997, that was the last time it was on. E! Channel stopped showing sitcoms in 1996.

Wow, only 5000 units? Maybe you meant 50,000 units?? I'm not doubting you or anything. I know the Alice disc was a big seller at Amazon and DVD Universe when it was first released. I have never seen Alice or any of the other Warner test discs in the stores. I find it hard to believe F-Troop would outsell Alice. Ugh! So no wonder there is "no audience."

I'm not sure of the exact number but I read it somewhere that Warner report sales of only 5,000...I tried to call and verify but really didn't get a definitive answer. 5.000 really doesn't surprise me as I've yet to see it at any major chain store (and I'm always looking). I blame poor marketing if you can't even find it at Walmart.

I saw the test disc for Chico and the Man at overpriced Sam Goody yesterday, so I guess these "Favorites" discs are in selected retailers.

Sam Goody is terrible..they are so overpriced. There aren't any around here where I live...but we do have several Walmarts, K-Marts and Targets..and not one of them carry any of these Favorites DVD's..you know if they did sales of Alice would be more than 50K.

I looked on Amazon just today, and their site says they only have 4 Alice dvds left in stock, and more are on the way. It looks like people are buying them.

I never said no one is buying them I simply stated something that I was told when I called Warner. All I was trying to say that IF places like Walmart and Target sold the discs, sales would improve 200%.

Besides, sooner or later, Warner will eventually release the series (or at least part of it).

Also, (this is not directed toward seventies_sitcoms), I've received a handful of hateful emails regarding my posts. I don't undersand the hostility. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE "Alice"...it's one of my all time favorite sitcoms...I'd literally run naked for miles in a snowstorm to get this series on DVD, remastered and uncut. Instead of directing hostility toward me contact WARNER...do something constructive to get this great series released. Threatening me isn't going to make matters better.

When it first came out, I searched all the local stores, with no luck. FYE would order it for me, but I ended up finding it at a Borders (I think that's where it was). I agree it would have sold alot better if a store like Best Buy had it. Also, to ahafan2, E! didn't really show them randomly, they showed them in production code order (which is common on syndicated reruns). TNN showed them in their original airdate order.

It's a shame E! stopped showing reruns...now all they seem to show are gossip shows.

Yeah, although I did tape them all on both E! and TNN, and no longer have cable anyway. Although it looks like ION (formerly I/Pax) *might* show Alice...vote at the following page:
http://www.ionline.tv/feb07poll.php
They have 16 shows to vote on, with Alice being one of them. A few others I wouldn't mind seeing, several of them I don't care about at all (esp shows like Lingo, Moral Court, LAPD, Wayans Brothers, and In The House.
