View Full Version : Petrified of a bump....

It wasn't until recently that I have begun feeling this round bump at the back of my lower right ear. When I press against it, it hurts. I don't know if it's temporary or what. I've had bumps here in the past, but they usually dissipated. I just figured they were a blister or something. I am somewhat worried that this bump could be some kind of a tumor, but it's small. Then, I wondered if it was something long in my head that's making this stick out. Like....I dunno. I am just worried. What could it be???

Now, before anyone says "Get it checked out," I already have a doctor's appointment on Tuesday concerning my headaches. So, yes, I WILL bring this bump up to the doctor. I am just hoping to get some advice until Tuesday from anyone else who have experienced a similar situation.

I can't say I've ever had a bump. Does it feel like it's under the skin?

I hope everything's ok, though!

I have one of those now, but its at the top of my ear. I think its just a pimple or something.

it might be a boil. i knew a kid in high school who always got those on the back of his ears.

boils and pimples are very common around the ear area--likely nothing to be too concerned about! I've gotten them from time to time.

Agreed. Or, it could be a cyst. I had one of these on my neck in my junior year of high school - it was painful! It eventually went away on its own, though.

Try putting a hot rag on it, that might help.

Mona, the bump is probably nothing, but I would still have the doctor look at it anyway. I had a bump in my throat in December of 2003. It turned out to be nothing, but I was really scared for a while.

Thanks, everyone.

I have been given some ideas of possibilities of what this might be. It may be a boil, a pimple and a cyst, as a couple of people mentioned here.

I tried taking a picture of it earlier, but it was too bright (when using a flash) and too close or unidentifiable (when not using a flash).

I do feel it is a bit hard yet tender. :(

I am trying to remember when I started noticing this. I think it has only been about 2-3 days since I have had it.

Boils seem to be common behind the ear for some reason, so that's probably what it is, Mona. You should make an appointment to see a dermatologist who can diagnose the problem and treat it. If it's a boil, the doctor can just lance it, dress it and send you on your way. Keep us updated, sweetie... :)

It sounds like a cyst or something. Good luck at the doctor's tomorrow, Mona.

Thanks, guys! I have that appointment in about four hours, so I will report back with what I am told. I am sure today is going to just be initiations and setting up for some extensive work. I am sure it'll be taking quite some time to check things closely.

I have had two bumps right where my chin and neck connect for over a year now. I went to two doctors and they said it was just my nodes swelling up because of my acne. Isn't that gross. Well I have few pimples and they're still there....One is like the size of a small bouncie-ball. The other is about half that.

Thanks, everyone!

Everything went well today. I was somewhat out of it from the lack of sleep that I talked about everything I wanted to talk about for my headaches. Therefore, I spaced out the whole boil/bump/pimple (etc...). D'oh!!! What a stupid thing.... :(

You should probably make a new appointment so that you can have the bump looked at, Mona. I hope that the doctor was able to provide you with some help for those headaches.

It gets too expensive. There is a $25 co-pay through my medical insurance everytime I go and see the doctor. I had that perfect opportunity to check then and there, but I totally forgot that day. For one, I was sick with that stupid cold and felt out of it. I was just focusing on the headache and just going home. Ooooo....I could just kick myself for forgetting, but that would do me nothing right now. :(

There is still that roundish bump, but it doesn't hurt me or isn't as tender as it was about two weeks ago. Soooo...that tells me this isn't a boil/pimple. Weird...

Those co-payments are awful.

Better than getting a bill in the mail for $600.

That's true.
