View Full Version : Phylicia Rashad And Bill Cosby Are Both Liers Read here to know why
wezzyfan 01-27-2007, 11:39 PM I Read Somewhere that Bill Cosby Abd Phylicia Rashad Said That The Cosby Show was The First Black Upper Middle class family. Wong The Jeffersons Are The First Black Upper middle class Family on televsion.
Amd Sanford And sons Were The First Sucessfuly GroundBreaking black sitcom to ever be on the air.
Bill Cosby Need To Get Use To The Fact That His sitcom Was Not The First in Everything. And His Show Is Not the Best Black Family On Televsion. I Like Both The Jeffersons And sanford And Sons Much Better The The Cosby Show.
JuicyCoutureGirl 01-28-2007, 12:06 AM
What is up with the Cosby hate? Not once did Rashad and Cosby say that, they said the first black upper class family where BOTH parents had high professions, Weezy, to my knowledge, never even HAD a job. Cosby had also said that his show didn't use such words as 'honky' or any other 'jive' slang that was used in past black shows.
But that's your opinion on The Cosby Show not being the best black show ever, but gets your facts straight. You totally twisted their words.
Mr. Television 01-28-2007, 12:07 AM I do too. Actually A Different World was a better overall series than TCS. I read that Bill Cosby doesn't like Sanford or The Jeffersons. That's probably why he doesn't give those shows credit.
wezzyfan 01-28-2007, 12:11 AM first of all i am not saying i dont like the cosby show just to claer that .
also i heard that what cosby said on a different board.

A Different World was a much better show than The Cosby Show. I only liked the first four years of TCS as for ADW I loved all seasons of ADW.

Wasn't getting mad at all, just saying. I think Phylicia Rashad is an excellent actress and I do get a little offended when someone calls her names like a liar.
It's all good!:D
wezzyfan 01-28-2007, 12:18 AM Wezzy Did Have A Job s he Work At The health Center.
i have even heard that cosby didn't let his kids evan watch those shows or they never saw them until they got older.
how would he know his kids never watch those shows when they were younger when he wasn't home alot. I Bet His Wife Let Them all Watch All In The Family,The Jeffersons,Good Times,Sanfoord And sons,What Happening And Maude and were told not to tell their father when He got home.
Mr. Television 01-28-2007, 12:20 AM A Different World was a much better show than The Cosby Show. I only liked the first four years of TCS as for ADW I loved all seasons of ADW.
Yea I agree. The early years of TCS were it's best years. I didn't care for the first year of ADW but the rest of the seasons were great.
JuicyCoutureGirl 01-28-2007, 12:43 AM Yea I agree. The early years of TCS were it's best years. I didn't care for the first year of ADW but the rest of the seasons were great.
Didn't care too much for the first season, in fact, it seemed more like an after school special program than a show about a college.
The early years of TCS was pure gold, they completely f'kd it up when they pulled the old add a child and the dumbing down of a character and "We have to prove the viewers who don't already know this that we are black by throwing in random black history and kente cloths"(They did this around 1990).

Oh yeah, I forgot...my bad
My father was the same way with my sister and I growing up. We weren't allowed to watch The Jeffersons, 227, Amen, or any other 'black' show but The Cosby Show but we were allowed to watch The A Team and Miami Vice.
wezzyfan 01-28-2007, 12:56 AM Did Your Mom Let You Watch Them.
Cause i Think His Wife Let Them Watch Those Shows and Were Not Allowed to say anything about those shows when cosby got home .

That's the funny thing, when my mother was alive she let us watch these shows and she was white and had no problem with none of these shows. As soon as we heard the front door open we had to turn off the T.V, he even wouldn't let her watch these shows, she once did while he was home on mistake, and that was a HUGE MISTAKE.
wezzyfan 01-28-2007, 01:07 AM yep.
so i think his wife camille let them watch those shows. and as soon he walk in the doors the tv went off.
JuicyCoutureGirl 01-28-2007, 01:16 AM yep.

That could be it, we turned off the T.V and had to study. I just found it funny that my father rather have us watch Miami Vice over The Jeffersons, god, that man was REALLY strict to the point where you can't walk around him.
Mr. Cosby did have a problem with 'Martin' as I remembered.

They were the first NORMAL Black Upper Middle Class Middle Family
Brieannas21 01-28-2007, 02:26 AM They were the first NORMAL Black Upper Middle Class Middle Family
I agree, they had a typical family with jobs, unlike The Jeffersons and S&S. So I would say that they were the first upper middle class family on television.

I wouldn't say typical.
I personally didn't have any friends who had a doctor and a lawyer for parents.
I'm white, but regardless, I'd love to hear how many people had parents- or friends with parents- of both those professions. Not just one, but one parent of each.
Black, white, whatever. Living in a brownstone in NYC?
Well I'm sure not many can add to that.

The Huxtables were typical to me, even families like The Banks were typical to me. Both of my parents had professions like Cliff and Claire(not excatly a doctor and a lawyer). Even when I was married my ex-husband is a Judge and I just happened to be an ex-real estate agent now lawyer. And growing up, many of my friends grew up the same way I did.
I understand your point though.
TVFactFan 01-28-2007, 02:40 AM I agree, they had a typical family with jobs, unlike The Jeffersons and S&S. So I would say that they were the first upper middle class family on television.
The Sanfords were a POOR BLACK FAMILY-lol

There are a lot of families in the world with two working parents who are professionals. My mom (who's black) is a lawyer and my dad (who's white) is in real estate. I’m in Business Development and my husband is an Investment Banker, I think that we are professionals, and on top of that we have two children. So there are professional hard working people out in the world with children.

Well I never said what class they were in
TVFactFan 01-28-2007, 02:47 AM Well I never said what class they were in
I don't know why Weezyfan mentioned Sanford and Son because they lived in poverty. this was about the Jeffersons and the Cosby Show

Just pointing it out, my childhood is really nothing to talk about, too painful.
felicitylen 01-28-2007, 07:02 AM They were the first NORMAL Black Upper Middle Class Middle Family
I don't really like the word "normal" but I agree they were the first upper middle class black family that consisted of two parents who had professional jobs. I think that's the point Bill Cosby was trying to make.

Yes, the Jeffersons were successful, but I think it was more of George's attitude and jive talking or whatever that I think Bill had a problem with, which is why he probably didn't like the show. I remember reading somewhere that something like that had to do with his dislike of the show.
wezzyfan 01-28-2007, 11:50 AM Wiill In The Book The Sitcoms Of Norman Lear it say
It Says The The Jeffersons Were The First Black Upper Middle Class Family.
The Cosby Show Was The Second Black Upper Miiddle Class Family. The Jeffersons Help it to be a sucess. If It Wasnt For The Jeffersons The Coaby Show Would Have Never Happend.
wezzyfan 01-28-2007, 12:04 PM The Jeffersons Were More Realistic Then The Huxtable. I Ask That Question on nick at nite board And More People Says They Was More Realistic Then The Huxtable.
wezzyfan 01-28-2007, 12:20 PM Has Bill Cosby Ever Made Comment About These Black
shows. The fresh Prince of Bel-air,Martin,My Wife And Kids, Jamie Foxx,Moesha,Family Matters, steve havery.
Now Good Times He Dosnt I Think It Because He Grew Up in the Ghetto Him self And Because Of The jj Character. to tell you the truth i like almost all black shows more then The Cosby Show except i dont like What Happening or jamie foxx show

Ok the Huxtables were the first NON-Stereotypical Black Family on TV. Sound Better?
wezzyfan 01-28-2007, 02:32 PM Yes That make more sense a little.
wezzyfan 01-28-2007, 02:34 PM But What I Also Want To know if He ever Made Comment About Black Shows In The 90s?.
TVFactFan 01-28-2007, 02:37 PM But What I Also Want To know if He ever Made Comment About Black Shows In The 90s?.
He made a comment about Martin and Martin Lawrence said-"I'm not trying to be like the Huxtables"
wezzyfan 01-28-2007, 06:01 PM Still The cosby Show Would Have Never happend If The Jeffersons Never Came Along Or Even if All In The Family Was Never Put On The air.
JuicyCoutureGirl 01-28-2007, 07:39 PM I will never get the arguement that The Jeffersons were more realistic than The Huxtables? In who's world? I don't know any biracials who are dark like Jenny, casting her to play a biracial character was totally unrealistic. Also I never knew any black men who went around calling every white person a 'honky'.
I also don't know any wacky British neighbors or maids that talked back to their employer, in the real world, Florence would have got her ass fired.
BTW: I do remember Bill Cosby getting upset at people who called Martin Lawrence the 'next Bill Cosby'. But then again, black shows weren't the only target for Bill either, he said crap about Roseanne and her show too.

I think Charlie and Company was more Realistic than the Cosby Show and Jeffersons. Charlie and Company was a show about a Black Family living in Chicago starring Flip Wilson and Gladys Knight
JuicyCoutureGirl 01-28-2007, 07:54 PM I think Charlie and Company was more Realistic than the Cosby Show and Jeffersons. Charlie and Company was a show about a Black Family living in Chicago starring Flip Wilson and Gladys Knight
I heard of that show but wasn't allowed to watch anything Flip Wilson.
But at the end of the day after all is said and done, I have to realize that it's just T.V, T.V shows aren't supposed to be about everyone's lives, it would be pretty borning but yeah, Charlie and Company really looked realistic to me over both shows, depending on how one grew up.
Ireneparalegal 01-28-2007, 08:02 PM This thread reminds me of that thread I made where Phylicia Rashad said on an interview that her character and Cliff were THEE MOST ROMANTIC COUPLE EVER ON TELEVISION. I can see if she said, ONE OF THEE MOST ROMANTIC, but that is not how she said it.

She said that? Yes, there were ONE OF the most romantic couples on T.V but not THE MOST, I don't think there's a couple in T.V history that tops the list.

Exactly. There are MANY MANY couples who can make that same statement.
wezzyfan 01-28-2007, 08:20 PM The Jeffersons Are More ralistic because in the real world i dont think there are a black couple where on is a docter and the other is a laywer.
now the fresh prince is more realistic cause he is a laywer and black but the mom dose have a job at one time when she was a teacher,.
wezzyfan 01-28-2007, 08:28 PM also cliff and claire Are Not The Most Romantic Couple On Televsion.
her some romantic couples i heard in the past
lucy and ricy
dan and roseanne
George and wezzy jefferson
florida and james
family ties parents.
Ross and rachel
Tim And jill Taylor
Jessie And Becky Of Full House
leave it to beaver parents
couple can still be romantic even if they fight that where i think phylicia Rashad got the idea that the huxtable were the most romantic couple on tv just because you never saw them have a fight or arguement.
so iam say couple can still be romantic if they fight or argue.

What are you talking about? There are black couples who both work and i'm not talking about everyday jobs either. I grew up with three black kids in my neighborhood who's parents had "top notch" jobs.
Why aren't black couples allowed to be sucessful in their own right? Are black people supposed to live like The Evans? I don't think so.
And on The Fresh Prince, Vivian wasn't just a teacher, she was a professor.
TVResearcher- Yes, Family Matters was realistic before it turned into The Sci-Fi show.
Irene-Yes, many couples fit this, even Dan and Roseanne Connor.

I so agree with you. There are times when couples argue and so forth, things aren't perfect, but they work things out. Hell, we can make a list that goes on and on abt romantic couples.
YES, EVEN ROSEANNE AND DAN!!!!!!!
FAMILY MATTERS aka THE SCI-FI SHOW aka THE URKEL SHOW...Juicy girl you have me

I think they had one argument in 8 years
TVFactFan 01-28-2007, 08:39 PM Sherman Hemsley does.
Sherman doesn't walk like that in real life. It was added to the George character when the Jeffersons started so he could have that-"I got it and there's no doubt about it" Stroll on the way in the Manhattan High Rise
LOL
wezzyfan 01-28-2007, 08:40 PM Other Romantic Couple
Mike And Gloria Stivic
Lionel And Jenny jefferson
Tom And Helen Willis

Cliff and Clair
Ireneparalegal 01-28-2007, 09:00 PM Cliff and Clair
I love the Cosby Show, but man, Phylicia saying that comment was just  ...not to mention an insult to other characters/couples. Like I said before, Charles and Caroline Ingalls from Little House on the Prairie to me, were A VERY ROMANTIC COUPLE. They never turned on each other, they helped each other out, when one faltered, the other was there to help. She was stern when needed to be, etc. I just feel they always bestowed ROMANCE.

Seems a lot of people lean in that direction. I am not saying that Cliff and Claire are NOT romantic, simply saying that there are plenty who don't like the fact that her statement overshadows all the other romantic couples on television.

I think that was said because back in the 70's you didn't HARDLY saw black couples being romantic. You would see them kiss and whatnot but they weren't passionate.

I agree that the lack of black actors and black shows since the invention of television, we hardly got to see many black couples...however, Phylicia said THEE MOST ROMANTIC COUPLE EVER, she didn't say thee most BLACK romantic couple ever, and if she had said that, she would be short-changing the status of the Cosby Show, as if the show was directed at only black America...it was a show that all of us could identify with, in some way or another.

I don’t think it would have shortchanged anything if she would have said "The most romantic black couple ever" Because that is what they where. Also I don’t think that SINCE the Cosby’s or before, that I have seen a married couple on television like them. I can’t think of any other television couple that had/have shown the love that Cliff had for Claire and the love that Claire had for Claire.
The only thing about the Cosby show is that they never had a blown out argument
