View Full Version : Mrs. Slocumbe RULES!
Has anybody here see "Are You Being Served?"
This show is SOOOOOOOO hilarious!I mean Mrs. Slocumbe would come with outrageous hair colors and Mr. Humphries was gay and Miss Brahms had a DEEP Brit accent.I would like to see "Man About the House" is BBC America gets it.
japfles 08-05-2001, 02:34 PM And what about all those innocent remarks that Mrs Slocombe made about her "***** "?
Probably wouldn't get away with that in the States would she? ;0)
I used to hate this show when it was originally shown in the 70's but I just love it now.
japfles 08-05-2001, 02:37 PM Woah! I've been censored (above)!
I guess that proves my point somewhat! That word IS innocent in Britain!!!
Is it bleeped or dubbed when the show is aired in the States??
She never mentioned it in any of the episodes PBS showed.Did you get to see Man About the House?I heard it's theme song and it is SOOOOOOO cool!I would love to watch some classic britcoms on BBC America but they only got Father Ted and some others I forgot. They used to show Ballkissangel and Keeping Up Apearrance AND Are You Being Served?.But I can't live without my American sitcoms.
japfles 08-05-2001, 02:56 PM Hmmm, that IS interesting as it is a word that cropped up in most episodes. It was kind of a catchphrase for her!
'Man About The House' is classic 70's British Comedy, love it! Do you want an MP3 of the theme tune? Send me an email.
Mossopp 08-06-2001, 06:16 PM See what JT said about Mr Humphreys being gay - that was never actually stated outright was it? I mean, I know you were meant to *think* he was gay but it was never actually said.
That's wierd how they cut Mrs Slocumb's catchphrase out of the show when it airs in the States. What's the point in that? That was one of the funniest things about the show. Talk about heavy censorship - jeez!

JoPol_wannabe 08-22-2001, 12:33 AM Mrs. Slocumbe is the best on the show! I love it when she talks about her cat those stories are so funny and the way her and Mr. Lucas argue is very funny. My favorite Mrs. Slocumbe quote "Our eyes met and I knew you knew I knew you knew I knew." -- Lost and Found

MikeCallahan 09-13-2001, 12:17 AM In one episode, Mrs. Slocumbe said "but i feel sorry for him, the rotton old bastard". Does any one know what episode that was called?
moofomoo 09-24-2001, 09:57 AM I don't even know to whom she was referring. And yeah, as Tammy or someone said, they don't censor that word in the reruns. They also don't censor much in any of the Britcoms shown here in the states.
HOORAY FOR BRITCOMS GETTING AWAY WITH EVERYTHING! lol

For those in the States, it is returning to BBC America's line up on Oct. 1. It was on a 8 month vacation provided by Grace Brothers.
