View Full Version : Laid off.....again!
Well, it looks like I'm back on the morning shift here at Sitcoms Online.
I just got word this morning that we're gonna close up the company for a few weeks.
Work has been very slow this month (which is why i have so much time to make pendants and pins) and the jobs we had lined up aren't going to start up anytime soon. Plus a few companies we've done jobs for recently don't seem to be in any hurry to pay us - which is typical in the construction biz - so we're out of cash to pay the workstaff (all 2 of us).
I'm signing on for unemployment benefits on Monday. I'm sure it will only be for a few weeks. But since the weather dipped below zero here in the NYC area, I'm really not going to cry about staying home.
If anyone needs me, I'll be watching TV.
;)
Ireneparalegal 01-26-2007, 04:46 PM Awwww, sorry to hear this development abt your job. Keep your head up, it could be worse, M*A*S*H could be yanked from television FOREVER!!!!
Seriously, I hope all goes well for you. Hang in there and keep us laughing!
BTW, what kind of pendants and pins do you make?
MsOrange 01-26-2007, 04:53 PM Yay! More time to debate GG and the wonderful couple that Luke and Lor make, and how much Chris sucks :-P
seriously though, sorry to hear it. At least you have a good outlook on it.

Happened to me in July and lasted until mid september, just stay positive and everything will balance out. I was situated a little different because I had a savings account that I lived off of in addition to unemployment which is not sh*T.
Hang in there, man. The pendulum will swing the other way very soon. Keep the positive attitude.
Nighthawk76 01-26-2007, 05:54 PM I hope that everything works out for you. :)

Thanx for the link. Those are impressive. I swear, I wish I had that kind of patience. That is some beautiful work there!
MsOrange 01-26-2007, 06:41 PM you should seriously consider the ebay thing.... these things would probably do good
Janice 01-26-2007, 09:00 PM I'm sorry to hear about this Tom. That's a whack in the wallet. Maybe the Gaf will let you get a Norm Peterson tab going. ;)

NOOOOO!!
Sorry to hear about your luck! Hang in there! Your work from the link above seems really, really inspired and interesting!
Karen* 01-27-2007, 04:24 AM Ugh, that sucks. I'm sorry. :(
dawsongirl 01-27-2007, 01:57 PM You certainly have a better outlook on it than I would. I'm not going to have any money coming in this summer and I'm already freaked out about it.

Don't get me wrong, I am a littel sad that this has happened again.
But I've always been broke, so for a while I'm going to be a little more broke.
Brian Damage 01-27-2007, 02:33 PM That's what really sucks about construction. I was an operating engineer for a few years and it seemed it was busy in the summer, then went dead in the winter. I got sick and tired of the constant layoffs. I really like your positive attitude, I am proud of you! ;)
James 01-27-2007, 10:50 PM Hang in there and don't give up!
Monday -
I woke up bright and early at 8AM, showered, got dressed, had some breakfast, logged on to the computer and applied for Unemployment benefits.
Thankfully, I was approved.
I went to the grocery store and picked up some supplies. It's pretty cold here in NYC, and since that cold I had last week is still lingering, I think I will stay inside today.
I have a list of things to do around the apartment, but first I'm going to watch a few episodes of "the Office" on the DVR. Then maybe I'll watch last nights "Battlestar Galactica" again.
Then I'l probably listen to the repeat of Howard Stern on Sirius this afternoon.
So as you can see, I'm keeping busy.
I'll keep you posted if anything else happens.
;)
Yooch 01-29-2007, 11:19 PM Good luck with everything. Hang in there!
