No, Viacom gave up the rights to Benson and 227 in exchange for Addams and Munsters.

I find this so bizarre. I've never heard of such a thing, although I admit I'm not all that familiar with how things operate in the TV world. I do know that I'm personally unhappy with their decision to terminate the contract early because it seems to lack integrity and commitment, but in the end I know it's all about the almighty dollar.

I don't know any better way to put this in an easily understandable way:

Remember, the Benson and 227 leases were through Program Exchange. TV Land, realizing they could get better ratings more often with Munsters and Addams - two other PE shows - decided to Exchange the two shows. They don't have them anymore because they exchanged them for something else through the aforementioned distributor, the Program Exchange. Considering it's in the company's TITLE, it's not that surprising.

Now, if TV Land pulled a swap-out with Warner (say, Murphy Brown + Night Court for, say, Knots Landing), THAT would be different and unusual.

Thanks for the explanation, because I was confused...as I mentioned, I'm really just a viewer and don't typically get into all the specifics and intricate details of how the system works. My next question would be, is this Program Exchange a very popular concept or is this just a TV Land thing?

Can Benson end up on N@N?

I doubt it. I think that they would treat the show the same way, if not worse, than TV Land. Plus, I thought N@N was appealing to "Modern TV Classics." Most of what they air now had their heydeys in the 90s (For example: Roseanne started in '88, but ended in '97, so most of their TV life was in the '90s. Same with Full House - started in '87, ended in '95). There are some exceptions, like the Cosby Show ('84 till '92), that had their heydays in the '80s, but I think most of the programs there now are fairly recent.

Did anyone remember watching it on N@N'S 20TH anaversary marathon. I think benson was their along with shows like who's the boss?, silver spoons. I wish they could replay that marathon. It was probably the best thing I ever saw on N@N.

Ah, so that's why it doesn't show up to air on March 4th. That really sucks because I need "What a Revoltin' Development." I am getting really close to having the entire series on DVD, but this cancellation stuff happens when I really need an episode.

I need that one myself. Which others do you still need?

Season 4:
What a Revoltin' Development
Quest for Retire (Great picture quality, but the audio isn't as high as it's supposed to be)

The rest from that season I can convert from VHS when I taped them off of Screen Gems.

Season 7:
Episode #148 - Summer of Discontent (Marlon Wayans) I recorded this episode, but my DVD recorder did something strange, so I am missing a minute or two from it.
Episode #152 – The Hat and the Ring
Episode #153 – The Bucks Stop Here
Episode #154 – Pardon Me
Episode #156 – Three on a Mismatch
Episode #157 – Friends and Enemies (Great picture quality, but the audio isn't as high as it's supposed to be)

Unless you have a DVD version of Hi, Society, I can get that from the Screen Gems tape as well.

TVLAND skipped these particular episodes throughout their entire run. Screen Gems in 2000-2001 aired some of these episodes, but aside from these last "runs" of Benson, these episodes haven't hit the airwaves in years. If you or anyone on this board has Benson playing in their area, keep these episodes in mind and maybe we can set something up.

With the exception of "Hi, Society", TV Land aired all these episodes during the marathon and I do have them on DVD but as fate would have it, that DVD I can't seem to copy for anything.

The episodes I still need are:
1) What A Revoltin' Development (never shown on TV Land)
2) Teacher's Pest
3) The Royal Painting
4) Boys Night Out
5) Double Date
6) Hi, Society

As I mentioned before, episodes 2-5 listed above were shown on TV Land once, but I failed to get them recorded. The other two were never aired on TV Land.

I have the ones you mentioned with the poor quality. Sometime in the future if Benson isn't aired on another local channel I'm sure we can make a trade.

Sounds cool. Yeah, I have all of the ones you want above. It's just that Teacher's Pest and Hi, Society were taped off of Screen Gems (in good quality). Since TVLAND aired Benson, I was extremely cautious and paranoid about missing an episode. This show is so good in so many ways, but every time it leaves the airwaves (as you well know) it is usually a matter of years before it returns. Consider this syndication history in my area.

Mid to late 80's WGN Channel 9 in Chicago
1995-1996 BET
2000-2001 Screen Gems
2006-2007 TVLAND

Perhaps within the next 5 or 6 years we will be able to get what we need.

Yep, your memory matches mine, except I do recall watching the show over the summer of '85 on WGN. I can't tell you how long they aired it though. I remember back-to-back episodes, definitely. I did tape some back then but 20+ years later who knows what ever happened to my tapes!
