View Full Version : Van Halen to tour with Roth this summer but... dlemond 01-24-2007, 07:14 PM minus Michael Anthony. http://billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003537232 TJL 01-24-2007, 07:24 PM Wow, that sucks that Michael Anthony isn't going to join the big reunion. What exactly happened between him and the rest of the group? They had a falling out, I don't know why. This article says that he is aligned with Sammy now. http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003380053 It would be great if they could work this out with Anthony too, but it seems he might be too tight with Sammy and Eddie's got too much pride for something so recent. As opposed to the thing with Dave which was 20 years ago and Eddie obviously needs him more than Anthony. AKA 01-24-2007, 08:07 PM No Mike, no sale. dlemond 01-24-2007, 08:15 PM No Mike, no sale. I'm sure the cheapest ticket is at least $50.00. No way I'm paying that for an incomplete reunion when you finally get together with the guy who's been missing for 20 years. Work it out boys. AKA 01-24-2007, 08:28 PM Exactly. I don't want to watch some 15-year-old kid play bass, no matter whose son he is. It just doesn't feel right in a 30-year-old band. Besides, Mike was an essential ingredient in Van Halen. Not only did he co-write a lot of the classic tracks, but his harmony vocals are irreplaceable. TJL 01-24-2007, 08:35 PM I agree guys. It won't be the same. Although, what 15 year old dude wouldn't love spending quality time riding in a tour bus with his Dad? ;) Nighthawk76 01-24-2007, 08:37 PM Even though Van Halen will not be Van Halen without Michael Anthony and I'm very weary of Wolfgang (he will be a 15 year old playing with 50+ year olds), I will still be getting tickets when they come to Chicago. :D dlemond 01-24-2007, 09:01 PM Besides, Mike was an essential ingredient in Van Halen. Not only did he co-write a lot of the classic tracks, but his harmony vocals are irreplaceable. Losing those harmonies will ruin it. But I think it just sucks in general because his presence makes it Van Halen. I mean if MA had vocal problems but was still playing with them I would go. Nighthawk76 01-24-2007, 09:11 PM I think that anyone who is a fan of classic Van Halen should go to the show. You all know this will be a one time deal, just like the 2004 reunion tour with Sammy was. Eddie's ego will not allow Dave to stay in the band and take up some of his spotlight. I am sure going to miss Mike though. He is one of my favorite bass players and his harmony vocals are so much a part of the Van Halen sound. I am just so excited that I will get to see Dave perform with the Van Halen brothers. AKA 02-03-2007, 12:37 PM Well, gang, it looks like it's happening. From http://www.van-halen.com/: VAN HALEN IS BACK! VAN HALEN OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCE SUMMER TOUR February 2, 2007 Los Angeles, CA - In what is no doubt one of the most anticipated moments in rock and roll, VAN HALEN officially announces their 2007 North American tour. The tour will mark the first time since 1984 that original VAN HALEN front man David Lee Roth will perform with Eddie and Alex Van Halen along with new bassist Wolfgang Van Halen for 40 shows this summer. VAN HALEN fans can look forward to legendary high intensity performances, featuring a set list of the most iconic hits ever produced by America's premiere rock band. Eddie Van Halen states, "I am very excited to get back to the core of what made VAN HALEN." There have been people who have been waiting for this for 22 years, and they get crapped on because it's not the original lineup. They get to see Eddie's fifteen-year-old son on bass instead of Michael Anthony, just because Eddie has an ego trip over the fact that Mike plays in a band with Sammy Hagar. I, for one, will not be plopping down my hard-earned cash to see this. As I said before: No Mike, no sale. Try again, Skeletor Eddie. GOD HE LOOKS HORRIFIC...WHERE ARE HIS TEETH????    Nighthawk76 02-03-2007, 09:47 PM A lot of people are predicting that this reunion will fall apart after only a couple of shows because of Eddie and Dave's egos. I think that there might be some truth in this considering that there was tension between Dave and the Van Halen brothers (and between Dave and Mike) pretty much from day one of the band. Eddie said back in 1996 that he and Dave were never friends. What is going to make this time any different? I'm still disappointed that Michael Anthony will not be part of the reunion. I'm a little surprised that Dave agreed to participate in the reunion without Mike. In a way he has screwed Mike over just as much as Eddie and Alex. Of course, Dave is probably so starving for the attention that he doesn't really care. I'm still planning on going to see the the band when they come here to Chicago, but without Mike it will never be Van Halen. You can have a Van Halen without Dave. You can have a Van Halen without Sammy. But you cannot have Van Halen without Mike. Nighthawk76 02-03-2007, 09:49 PM GOD HE LOOKS HORRIFIC...WHERE ARE HIS TEETH????    If you think Ed looks bad here, you should see him on the front of the latest issue of Guitar World without a shirt on. ABlairican Pie 02-03-2007, 11:57 PM Michael Anthony is one of the coolest bass players in the world. He definitely has a personality, a lot of fun, and besides, he's one of the original members. Saw them open for Black Sabbath in 1978, and they just stole the show!!! It's going to see how Diamond Dave is going to like it when he's going to be outnumbered by all members who are in a family.
