Photo GalleryHOLLYWOOD - A religious group is demanding a global ban of controversial new movie Hound Dog, insisting it "celebrates" pedophilia.
The film has sparked outrage following its premiere at Utah's Sundance Film Festival on Monday, because it features a graphic rape scene involving 12-year-old actress Dakota Fanning.

Now the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights has organized a petition to have the film banned.

Bill Donohoe, the organization’s director, says, "How can we celebrate pedophilia in this so-called artistic way?

"Five or six years ago this girl was on a tricycle. There has to be some line of decency which Hollywood will not cross."

Hound Dog's makers insist the scene is tastefully shot, with Fanning wearing a body suit and partially obscured by shadow. Fanning's mother Joy was present during filming.

If the film is promoting or "celebrating" pedophilia, then I agree that it has no place in theaters. If it shows the horror and suffering of the victims, then I think it's fine. Many terrible issues have been addressed in films before, including this one.

I'll have to know more about this film before I can make any kind of judgment on it. A film called Bastard Out Of Carolina came out quite a number of years back, and it didn't promote pedophilia, but instead showed the horrors of sexual and physical abuse, and probably did more good, than it did bad. I'll bet this organization hasn't even seen the film yet, and the only info they have on it, is what they've heard from bias, and secondhand sources. I think people need to find out more about the film, before jumping to any conclusions.

I love the movie for the fact that it doesn't glorify sexual molestation/rape on a child, but it shows the REALITY of what happens to children all over the world by the hands of pedophiles. To me, Fanning's work is no different.

I agree, that really was a very well made movie. Anjelica Houston did a wonderful job directing it. I've only been able to sit through it once, back when it originally aired, so I saw the rape scene in which you're referring to. I remember watching that part, and turning away, with tears pouring out of my eyes, as I thought about a person I know and love, who was also molested at a very young age. :( Absolutely broke my heart to see how sick, and cruel some people can be, and to know that that kind of stuff goes on everyday in real life. I loved the scene near the end, where the girls father found out, and him and his friends gave that guy the beating of his life. I was up out of my seat punching the air, pretending it was me beating on the guy!!

Exactly!! You make a great point by emphasizing all these different types of groups. It's not just one type of group that does this. It's not a right wing, or left wing thing. This is something that all organizations do, if the issue at hand doesn't fit their beliefs, or isn't something they think they'll like. We saw these same kinds of pre-judgments and false accusations when The Passion came out, and we see it time and time again with groups like the ACLU, as well as all the groups that you mentioned. Like you say, see the damn thing first, or at the very least, get some more facts about it, and then maybe someone will take these groups more seriously!!

Did you notice who was part of that group of men beating his ass up??? Julia Roberts' ex-husband, Lyle Lovett. Yep, there he was. I must say, he did some great acting in that movie, even though he had a small part. He fit well in that movie.

I agree, as hard as it was to watch this movie, it is reality. And we can't turn our eyes and ears to things such as this. Children are victims and it is our duty to protect them. Even if they must watch a movie like this to realize that there are adults who will harm them in this manner.

:wave: Thank you! God, ACLU grates my nerves. There is something truly wrong with this group. This same group defends sexual molesters, illegal immigrants and etc. my goodness, how in the world can a group with the name AMERICAN in front of the title defend illegals breaking the rules and harming innocent Americans?!

I saw nothing wrong with The Passion of the Christ but yet groups were claiming that it's anti-Jewish. I guess Soul Plane and other buffoon movies should be protested for being anti-White.

I'm done with GLAAD, really I am. How can you attack Isiah Washington as wrong as he was but yet not say one word about an Gay drag queen L.A peformer who's act is based on ripping black women apart(Shirley Q. Jena Malone did an amazing acting job in that film, especially considering how young she was at the time.
