Which was the way the coaches wanted it. He had the ability but Billeck didn't want to test it with that defense and that running game they had. I watch the Ravens every week almost and I followed them that year. They were awful before Dilfer arrived at QB. The QBS would always turn the ball over. Then after the SB they replaced him with a supposedly better QB Elvis Gerbach who was Mr. Turnover. If they would have kept Dilfer they would have had a better shot at repeating. Elvis cost them about 3 or 4 games all by himself.

The Defense was responsible for that SB but they wouldn't have gotten there without Dilfer too. They were going nowhere until Dilfer took over as QB. He was the stabilizing force and after he left ,the Ravens went back to their losing ways in the playoffs. You can't go as far as they did without some offense. Billeck tried to sell getting rid of Dilfer to the fans of Baltimore saying he wanted to open up the offense and they didn't buy it. My Dad's a Raven fan and he's still mad about that move. Gerbach was such a great QB The fans booed him regularly at his home games and after the season he retired and was never heard from again.
