My cousin is the proprietor and president of a book club here in Atlanta, and this morning Bern Nadette Stanis was her guest of honor! Bern Nadette is currently on a promotional tour for her books Situations 101 (http://thelmaofgoodtimes.com/situations_101.html) and For Men Only (http://thelmaofgoodtimes.com/for_men_only.html) and it was a pleasure to meet her. She was very cordial, friendly and down-to-earth. When she first came in, she was starving so she stopped to eat, and she sat across from me at the table. I couldn't help asking her questions about Good Times, but I didn't push it because she was primarily there for her book. The event was held at the Bed Restaurant in downtown Atlanta. After she ate, we all got in the beds and she read excerpts from her books.

She autographed her books and took photos. Then she autographed EVERY Good Times dvd that I own. I only have seasons 1,2,3 and 6, but she signed each one "Love BernNadette Stanis- Thelma of Good Times, 1/20/07" (that's a lot to write on 11 dvds). Then she autographed her books for me and a Good Times cast photo.

During that time I told her about the TVOne marathons- especially the "Ain't She Lucky She Got Him" marathon featuring Thelma's relationships, and she said that she knew nothing of them. She gave me her e-mail address and told me to send her a message the next time one is planned. She also melted when she saw the wedding photo featured on the sixth season set of Good Times (I had her autograph that photo as well). She asked me several questions about where the sets can be found. I don't think she owns any of them.

Thanks for the info. I bet you really enjoyed meeting and talking with Bern Nadette. She's so down-to-earth and seems easy to talk to. It seems odd that she didn't know about GT being out on DVD. I guess she's so busy with her books and other things, which I understand. I guess it would be too much to ask for her e-mail address, huh?

She is quite aware of the releases. I guess she hasn't felt an urge to grab them all up. She told me that she has autographed several Good Times dvds in the past, but she seemed genuinely surprised to see Season Six.

It's so funny how famous people don't even know how often their own shows are on. That must have been really cool meeting Bern Nadette and having her sign your DVD's.
