This classic clip, featuring a young Marion Ross, was taken from Phil Silvers' 1960's TV special Slowest Gun in the West. The clip also features Lee Van Cleef, Jack Elam and Parley Baer, among others. This by the way was a comedy/western. Ironically, back then, Marion Ross actually appeared in episodes of classic TV westerns like The Lone Ranger, Have Gun Will Travel and two episodes of that Clint Eastwood classic TV western Rawhide. Of course, Marion Ross isn't the only Happy Days star to appear in TV westerns. The Howard brothers, Ron and Clint, appeared in Gunsmoke, as has Erin Moran. Phil Silvers, on the other hand, appeared in the Happy Days episode, "Just a Piccalo" as Rosco, Jenny's father. Phil was ill at the time, but at least he got to appear on camera with his daughter, Cathy. To me, Phil Silvers was at his best in military comedies, especially as Sgt. Bilko. I don't know if CBS Studios has or plans on releasing Rawhide on DVD, because I'd like to see Marion Ross in those two episodes of that classic western. What would she have been like holding a shotgun, a six-shooter, riding a horse carriage or serving drinks in a saloon? At least she has worked with other western actors like Parley Baer, Jack Elam, Lee Van Cleef as well as Alan Hale Jr., Denver Pyle, among others. Check out that clip from Slowest Gun in the West at YouTube.com, and post what you think of Marion Ross from back in those days.
