View Full Version : If you could rewrite an episode, which would it be?
A.D.A. Casey Novak 01-18-2007, 04:27 PM OK, I know the show is just about perfect :). But which episode(s) maybe irked you a little and you would have changed something? One thing that always seemed strange to me was that Mrs. Garrett was not nearly as concerned when Jo was almost assaulted than when Natalie was. I remember thinking how strange that was. Before Mrs G even knew if Harrison had raped Jo or not, Mrs. G goes, "That rotten creep!". With Natalie, it was "Oh My God!!!" and she immediately embraced her. I just thought that was so odd. Maybe she just felt closer to Natalie.
Also, you all know how I felt about Jo's jokes in "Breaking Point".
cavalier 01-18-2007, 07:56 PM I am thinking of the ep where Natalie lost her virginity. I remember the character Jo was written very poorly. I don't know if it was b/c Blair was not in it or what, but I remember when Natalie wanted Jo's opiniop, all Jo kept saying is "if your happy I'm happy" and "it's up to you". I just feel the Jo we know would not beat around the bush and would have had something very strong to say. What do you think?
I Love Lamp 01-18-2007, 07:58 PM I agree.
Nighthawk76 01-18-2007, 07:58 PM I would have rewritten the series finale so that Jo, Natalie, Tootie and Beverly Ann had bigger roles.
cavalier 01-18-2007, 09:23 PM I agree about the finale. After 9 years I feel we never had a proper goodbye. It was way too rushed.
TALLguyinKY 01-18-2007, 10:14 PM One thing that always seemed strange to me was that Mrs. Garrett was not nearly as concerned when Jo was almost assaulted than when Natalie was. I disagree. For one thing, a grown man attacked Natalie, not a teenage boy. For another thing, Natalie was just that---attacked. Jo wasn't. Was Harrison right in what he did? Of course not. But he fondled her and was trying to get her to go all the way, thinking Jo was "that kind of girl" and expected her to go along with him, whereas the man who attacked Natalie gave her no choice in the matter---he was going to rape her without any concern for her feelings. Mrs. Garrett had more confidence in Jo handling a high school creep than Natalie handling a perverted grown man. Jo wasn't upset that she was in a situation where she was in danger, she was upset that Harrison turned out to be such a jerk. If Harrison had wanted to rape Jo he could have tried to drag her outside when he went back to Eastland to apologize, but he didn't. He was just a high school jerk who had the wrong idea about her. Hopefully he learned from that and became a better person. The man who tried to rape Natalie was a creepy criminal who needed to be put away and have therapy.
I would probably want to rewrite the series finale too. From season 1 I would love to rewrite "Running". As much as I love it, Cindy's character is secondary to Sue Ann's in that one, and I would like for both girls to have equal weight in the episode.
Sammy Reed 01-18-2007, 11:33 PM I would have liked for Mrs. Garrett not to be as smart-alecky to the girls in part 2 of the 2nd season opener. She just seemed kinda cruel to them to me. She kept on talking to them and treating them like she did Mr. Bradley during their IQ test, only this time it neither was funny, or was meant to be. It was very hard for me to sit through that one.
TALLguyinKY 01-18-2007, 11:46 PM Considering what all the girls did---not to mention breaching Mrs. Garrett's trust---I thought she acted naturally. And if we're thinking of the same scenes, she wasn't trying to be funny. She was being the non-plussed disciplinarian who had to reign the girls back in.
A.D.A. Casey Novak 01-19-2007, 09:37 AM I understand what you're saying Tallguy, but Jo specifically said he pushed her down onto the ground. Mrs Garrett had no idea how far it went until Jo told her. And before that, Ms. Garrett just seemed a little concerned. And one more thing. Harrison wasn't a small person. He would easily be capable of rape. Men and boys of ALL ages rape women. It is not exclusive to grown men.
TALLguyinKY 01-19-2007, 08:29 PM These are two very different situations though. Yes, he pushed her down, but he didn't cover her mouth and pin her down. I'm not condoning what he did, just trying to show the difference between a horny high school boy being a jerk, and a grown man using violating force. There is a difference. And yes, high school boys are capable of rape, but he didn't try to rape Jo. He was a jerk who thought Jo would go along with him because of how he perceived her. This was about him thinking she was a loose girl up for a good time, not rape. She hit him, left him, and he came back and awkwardly apologized, explaining his incorrect preconceived notion of her---something I don't think a rapist wouldn't do.
