'Globes' Comment Rekindles 'Grey's' Feud
AP
LOS ANGELES (Jan. 17) - "Grey's Anatomy" star Katherine Heigl was not pleased with fellow castmate Isaiah Washington's comments following Monday's Golden Globe Awards.

During an interview in the press room after the show's best-drama win, Washington denied his involvement in a heated on-set incident in October during which he allegedly used a homophobic slur.

"No, I did not call (co-star) T.R. (Knight) a f*****," Washington said. "Never happened, never happened."

Rather than soothing the situation, his comments left Heigl seething.

"I'm going to be really honest right now, he needs to just not speak in public. Period," Heigl told "Access Hollywood" at a Golden Globe after-party. "I'm sorry, that did not need to be said. I'm not OK with it."

She called the comments "hurtful," characterizing the incident as one that should be handled privately among the show's cast and crew.

I don't think (Washington) means it the way he comes off," Heigl said. "But T.R. is my best friend. ... I will use every ounce of energy I have to take you down if you hurt his feelings."

Knight, who said soon after the October fracas that he is gay, appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" Tuesday to discuss the original incident and Washington's recent comments.

"He referred to me as a f*****. Everyone heard it," Knight said of the October squabble.

Comments from Heigl and Washington were set to air Tuesday on "Access Hollywood." A call placed after hours Tuesday to Washington's representative was not returned.

Here's my thought about the whole situation. I really do believe that Isaiah Washington made those comments about TR Knight. I am actually disappointed because I didn't think he would be the type of person to make such inhumane comments. Plus, Isaiah played a gay man in Get On The Bus by Spike Lee. That's why I don't understand the why he said what he said.

He's latest comment is just silly. He needs to just keep his mouth shut and hope that he still has a job.

Whether or not he really did it, we don't know.

However. It was completely inappropriate for him to run up to the mic and say that in the press room. That was NOT called for at all.

Props to Katherine. I wish she was my best friend. She's awesome.

It seemed like several of the cast were uncomfortable with his remarks. Maybe he didn't realize how bad it was sounding.

Maybe, either way he should have really kept his mouth closed.

He apparently freakin' apologized for saying it and now he's saying it never happened?! He shouldnt have been nasty like that in the first place. ugh, I cant stand Isaiah.

T.R. handled everything so nice on Ellen though even though he was nervous. Though, I dont blame him for being it at all.

I don't think those petitions work at all. I've signed some to help shows that I loved and they were still cancelled, or to bring back people who were written off shows and they never returned

Isiah Washington is an ass. I do not understand why he is still working there. I commend T.R. Knight for being able to continue working with him. And kudos to Katherine too,it's nice to see that she has his back.

Controversy grows over anti-gay remark

By SANDY COHEN, AP Entertainment Writer 1 hour, 25 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES - The heated controversy at ABC's top show, "Grey's Anatomy," boiled over Thursday as the network rebuked co-star Isaiah Washington for an anti-gay comment and Washington issued a lengthy apology.

"We are greatly dismayed that Mr. Washington chose to use such inappropriate language at the Golden Globes, language that he himself deemed `unfortunate' in his previous public apology," the network said in a statement.

"His actions are unacceptable and are being addressed," the statement conclude.

During a backstage interview Monday at the Globes gala, Washington denied involvement in a heated on-set incident in October during which an anti-gay remark was reportedly uttered.

"No, I did not call (co-star) T.R. (Knight) a ******," Washington told reporters. "Never happened, never happened."

In his apology Thursday, Washington acknowledged "repeating the word Monday night."

"I apologize to T.R., my colleagues, the fans of the show and especially the lesbian and gay community for using a word that is unacceptable in any context or circumstance. I marred what should have been a perfect night for everyone who works on `Grey's Anatomy.' I can neither defend nor explain my behavior. I can also no longer deny to myself that there are issues I obviously need to examine within my own soul, and I've asked for help."

ABC said in its statement it has "a longstanding policy to maintain respectful workplaces" for its employees, adding that the network had "dealt with the original situation in October, and thought the issue resolved."

Thursday's events followed a critical statement Wednesday from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. Neil Giuliano, GLAAD president, said he had contacted Washington's representatives in hopes of meeting the actor to discuss "the destructive impact of these kinds of anti-gay slurs."
"Washington's repeated use of it on-set and in the media is simply inexcusable," Giuliano said in the statement.

Washington said on Thursday that he welcomes the chance to meet with gay and lesbian community leaders "to apologize in person and to talk about what I can do to heal the wounds I've opened."

"I know a mere apology will not end this, and I intend to let my future actions prove my sincerity," Washington said.

Knight, who said soon after the October fracas that he is gay, appeared in Tuesday's taping of "The Ellen DeGeneres (http://search.news.yahoo.com/search/news/?p=Ellen+DeGeneres) Show" to discuss the original incident and Washington's recent comments.

"He referred to me as a ******," Knight said of the October incident. "Everyone heard it."

"Grey's Anatomy," now in its third season, won the Golden Globe for best television drama. It regularly finishes atop or near the top of the Nielsen rankings.

Anybody who doesn't use slurs of any kind would be a nice replacement.

Here's John Mayer's thoughts on the whole incident, he believes that the show should produce an episode of Grey's Anatomy in which Mr. Washington's character, Dr. Burke comes out to his friends and colleagues as a gay man!!! What better way for an actor to get to the roots of his discrimination than by portraying the very the subject of his own ire for the remainder of his contract?

Read in his blog titled It's only a suggestion.

I remember Isaiah played a gay character in Get On The Bus movie. LOL@his boyfriend who was actor Harry Lennix who said to Isaiah in one scene, i wanna take you home and give you a hot bath and massage your feet hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. I thought that was disgusting. A movie or tv director could not pay me enough to play a gay character if i was a actor. I can't stand gays. LOL@Isaiah calling his co-star a fa* and then denying he didn't say it hahahahahahahahahaha. I don't think Isaiah should be replaced on Grey's Anatomy just because of what he said. For those of you who said he should be replaced, ya'll are tripping.

Same with this board. You shouldn't diss people because they are gay, fat and ugly, which is what you do all the time. There are people on this board who are FAT, who are GAY and who may be not pretty or handsome to you...you better learn that what you say is degrading to people on this board.
