Hello Everyone!

It is my great and glorious pleasure to announce that Silver Spoons is FINALLY being released to DVD!!! I received a phone call from the segment producer handling the extras for the series asking me to contact Joel and Erin so they can participate. I'm meeting with the production company reps while I'm in Los Angeles next week and will get every last detail to report back with.

It's been a long road but it's finally come to an end - Season One should be out before the end of the summer!!!!!

I remember when Nick at Nite aired this years ago with their "Return to the 80's" marathon, or something to that extent, and I liked it. Good to hear that :)

That is wonderful news! Thanks Judith for all your efforts in trying to get the show released on DVD. I was hoping that it would only be a matter of time after Comcast On Demand added it. It will be great to hear the commentaries and see the other extras. I'm sure you have a lot of photos and other memorabilia that could be used in them. It would be fantastic to have the cast reunite for a promotional tour like they did for the first and second season release of The Facts of Life. Please be sure to tell Sony to use all unedited episodes. I noticed some on Comcast are edited, and I'm sure fans wouldn't want to see them that way on the DVD.

Thanks Judith for all your work. Just to reiterate what others have said, please, please make sure we don't get syndicated episodes.

I knew it was only a matter of time. Hopefully it will sell well enough to get subsequent seasons released quickly. Maybe they will pair it up with Diff'rent Strokes season releases (although I want to see S3 much sooner!).

Hopefully at some point Rick Schroder can be involved in the extras.

Oh *Yay*!! Thank you sooo much Judith for this joyous news and for all of your hard work in getting "Silver Spoons" on DVD. I did sign your petition, and even noticed on tvshowsondvd.com that the show was in 5o-something rating. Which is not bad.

This has made my day even more. I have to say I don't believe I've ever seen the show, but I'm intending on buying it anyway! (laughs) I've seen clips and read about the show and it looks and sounds wonderful. And I'm also a big Erin Gray fan, so that should help too! (giggles)

Awesome news! Judith, thanks for being so persistent with the studio about releasing this; a DVD set for Silver Spoons is looong overdue. This is very exciting news for me, even more so than Family Ties coming to DVD.

As the others have said, please try to prevent the studio from using syndicated/edited episodes if possible. I'm also looking forward to the special features as well.

They should make it a point to mention Jason Bateman on the back of the box, as I know of people who are now interested in seeing his 80s sitcoms after seeing him on Arrested Development.

I can't wait to start collecting Silver Spoons on DVD!

SILVER SPOONS:
THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON

25th Anniversary DVD Contains 22 Episodes on Three Discs
with Exclusive Bonus Features

Guest Stars Include Sharon Stone, Mr. T, Joseph Lawrence,
Gary Coleman, and Jason Bateman

CULVER CITY, CALIF. (April 9, 2007) – Sony Pictures Home Entertainment celebrates the 25th anniversary of one of the most popular sitcoms of the ‘80s with the June 19 DVD debut of Silver Spoons: The Complete First Season. Starring Ricky Schroder (The Champ), Joel Higgins (TV’s “Bare Essence”), and Erin Gray (TV’s “Buck Rogers in the 25th Century”), the DVD includes all 22 episodes in a three-disc boxed set. The DVD will be available for $29.95 SRP.

When Silver Spoons began its five-season, 115-episode run for NBC on September 25, 1982, the show turned 12-year-old, Golden Globe®-winner Ricky Schroder into an instant teen heartthrob. With his blond, clean-cut, all-American good looks, Schroder dominated the pages of teen magazines in the early-to-mid ‘80s, won two Young Artist Awards as best actor for the series, and inspired a devoted fan base that continues to support his acting career into adulthood (TV’s “NYPD Blue,” “24”).

The series depicted every kid’s wildest fantasy. When Ricky Stratton (Schroder) is reunited with his long-lost father Edward (Higgins), Dad turns out to be a young-at-heart, “overgrown kid” who owns a multinational toy company empire and has turned his mansion into a veritable playground complete with a scale model freight train that runs throughout the house. The role reversal inherent in the show found Ricky more mature than his father, but under Ricky’s influence, Edward eventually matures, while Edward inspires Ricky to act more like a kid.

The storylines of Silver Spoons were mainly light situations regarding classic boyhood mischief and the misunderstandings surrounding a father and son getting to know one another. However, in periodic “very special episodes” during the first season, the series dealt with tougher issues including schoolyard bullies and kidnapped children. Guest stars included Sharon Stone (Basic Instinct, Casino), Mr. T (Rocky III, TV’s “The A Team,” “I Pity the Fool”), Joseph Lawrence (AKA Joey, TV’s “Blossom,” “Dancing with the Stars”), Gary Coleman (TV’s “Diff'rent Strokes”), and, in a recurring role as Ricky’s best friend, Jason Bateman (TV’s “Arrested Development”).

Silver Spoons: The Complete First Season episodes include:

Pilot Falling in Love Again
Boys Will Be Boys The Best Christmas Ever
Grandfather Stratton The Most Beautiful Girl in the World
Me and Mr. T Twelve Angry Kids
Takin' a Chance on Love The Toy Wonder
Evelyn Returns Popcorn
The Great Computer Caper Junior Businessman
I'm Just Wild About Harry Three's a Crowd
Honour Thy Father The Empire Strikes Out
Father Nature Won't You Go Home, Bob Danish
A Little Magic The X-Team

DVD Special Features Include:
Digitally Remastered Audio and Video
Full Screen Presentations
Audio: English
Bonus Previews
Closed Captioned

Broadcast Year: 1982 - 1983

Silver Spoons: The Complete First Season has a run time of approximately 528 minutes and is not rated.

A local spot has a lot of releases before its date. I think a lot of people that make covers professionally or are part the industry must live near me. I even told the guy hey this isn’t out for like 3 weeks and it was used and he said they get those all the time. Could be because im not to far out of Los Angeles.

The pilot episode on the DVD is over 28 minutes - compared to 22 minutes on Comcast. I don't know how anyone could be satisfied with the episodes from Comcast. They were probably edited for a reason. I'll take the unedited and better quality episodes on DVD any day over those.

The first night I got the set I watched 6 episodes straight. I don't care what anyone says, I love this show. I laughed so much at some scenes, more than any show currently on that I watch. THe one with Mr T is hysterical. The sales ranking at amazon isn't that high and dropping everyday. I only hoep that's because it's only $20 and therefore no free shipping and people are buying this in stores. I really, really want this to sell well and get season 2.
