View Full Version : Deceased people that are basically forgotten
Ricky88 01-14-2007, 01:36 AM I know that there are many people(acting, sports, etc) who were very talented in their profession, and are pretty much forgotten for what they have done. I'd like to mention some people who have been forgotten even after their accomplishments.

Drazen Petrovic was a guard for the Portland Trail Blazers and the New Jersey Nets in the late 80s/early 90s. Drazen left his native Yugoslavia for the United States, where he was one of the first to do so. On January 23, 1991, Drazen demanded, and was traded to the New Jersey Nets in a 3 team deal that saw Walter Davis go to Portland, Terry Mills go to New Jersey, and Greg Anderson go to Denver. Drazen made the Nets a much better team, and in his first full season, led the Nets to the playoffs for the first time in six years. Although the Nets lost in four games to the Cavs, the Nets had a bright future. Petrovic led the Nets to the playoffs again in 1993, losing in five games to the Cavs. On June 9, 1993, the Nets franchise was devastated when they learned Drazen was killed in a car accident in Germany. Drazen was 28 years old. With heavy hearts and the will to win, the Nets won 45 games in 1993-94, the most games they had won in a single season since 1984. Drazen opened the door for many young kids from all over Europe. I have met Drazen personally, and can honestly say he is a true hero(even to black kids).

Mr. Rogers, in the 1960s, started his own television show for young kids. His homemade sweaters and unique personality were very popular. For over 30 years, he entertained young children in many different ways. Mr. Rogers passed away in Feburary 2003, and has been basically forgotten.
http://www.nba.com/media/celtics/reggie_home435x295.jpg
Reggie Lewis was drafted by the Boston Celtics in 1987. Reggie was expected to take over once Larry Bird retired. Lewis always showed potential, and his potential would be questioned once Bird retired in 1992. Lewis averaged over 20 points per game in the 1992-93 season, leading the Celtics to a 48-34 record, and the #4 seed, earning home court in the first round. The Celtics won game 1, and lost the next 3. On July 27, 1993, Reggie collapsed while practicing at a nearby college. He went into cardiac arrest, and died soon after. He was 27 years old.
JuicyCoutureGirl 01-14-2007, 02:13 AM I've never forgotten Mr. Rodgers:D . God rest his soul..
Please add to the list...
Judith Barsi(1978-1988)-Hungarian American child star. T.V guest star in popular 80's sitcoms such as Punky Brewster, Cheers, Remington Steele and etc. Dozens of T.V movies and commericals. How could anyone forget Mr Rogers?!
I don't think anyone has. He accomplished so much for children's television.

I'm no sure if he's been forgotten, but people don't seem to talk about him. He was a tennis player, a good friend of John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors, Bjorn Borg and many others. He died of carbon monoxide poisoning at a friend's home - there was some sort of problem with the heating system.

That's so sad. I looked up who she was because the name didn't sound familiar.
I remember crying for days when I heard that she died. I couldn't believe that someone my age (we were both ten at the time) could die of something so horrible that child services could have fixed!!! They dismissed the Barsi case and looked what happened! My friend went to school with her and my friend needed a shoulder to cry on.
I remember Rebecca's death also, another death that shouldn't have happened. No one bothered to get this bastard Bardo some help or better yet lock his ass for a long time in a mental ward. Why in the blue hell would the DMV give this bastard info on Rebecca? Again, back then the system was, pardon my french, f**ked up, hell, even today.

I like the Carpenters' music a lot, so there's at least one person who hasn't forgotten Karen Carpenter. :)
My Mum likes her too, and my Dad, while not being a big fan, does think that their music is nice.
Brad Russ 01-14-2007, 08:26 PM Glenn Quinn, who played Mark on Roseanne, and also played on the show Angel, with David Boreanaz. The only places I ever heard about his death, were online at message boards and stuff. I believe he died in late 2002, and I never once heard the media mention anything about his death. He was a great actor, and definitely should have gotten more respect then he did. I will ALWAYS remember Glenn Quinn!!
gilligan fanatic 01-14-2007, 08:31 PM To many to list, but a lot of politicians are forgotten about. No matter what they did when they were in office good or bad, it is forgotten about when they die or even leave office for that matter.

One of hip-hop's fore fathers. He was arguably the greatest DJ of all time. He helped make the rap/hip-hop group Run D.M.C. of the greatest groups in music history. Without him there is no hip-hop.
Sonny Liston
http://www.nndb.com/people/167/000085909/liston-sized.jpg
Born May 8, 1932 (many people unsure about when liston was born)
Died December 30, 1970 (body was found on jan 5, 1971) Declared by police as heroin overdose
Perhaps being remembered most for his 2 fights against Muhammed Ali. Liston was a great boxer. He was a heavyweight champion. The precise cause of Liston's death is mysterious; the police declared it a heroin overdose, yet Liston was well known to have a phobia of needles. After winning the title, Liston at first refused to go on an exhibition tour of Europe when he was told he would have to get shots before he could travel overseas. All this prompted rumors that he could have been murdered by some of his underworld contacts. The case of Liston's death remains unsolved. Tragic story. There were sooooo many ways all that could have been prevented. I mean, a simple trip to the doctors could have saved two lives.

I'm glad someone mentioned Judith, I would've put her on the list if you hadn't. I'm pretty sure that her death helped change the way the CPS in California handled their cases. Their atrocious handling of her case led in part to her death. :(
Sharop 01-15-2007, 03:16 PM Andy Gibb (singer/younger brother of the Bee Gees): 1958-1988
Yes, people don't seem to talk about him much. Then again, I'm in Britain, and he never became very popular over here, for some reason. He died only five days after he turned 30 - he turned 30 on 5th March 1988 and died 10th March 1988.
However, people see him whenever they look at my avatar.
Here are some pictures of him when he was a child.

EmpressDR 01-15-2007, 07:18 PM I knew one man who broke a date with me because he was distraught that Maurice Gibb died that morning.
Also on this list: um --oh dear. let me think, because the Gibbs distracted me. So I largely forgot who I logged on to post about
But if the woman who played Princess Aura in Flash Gordon died, she would count. The poor woman lost her career, because she was in a traffic accident, and had a leg amputated, which was why she was replaced in the sequels by an insipid blonde-ringlet-in a ruffled dress actress.
Priscilla Lawson:
Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Priscilla_Lawson
Priscilla Lawson (b. March 8, 1914 in Indianapolis, In., d. August 27, 1958 in Los Angeles, Ca.), was an American actress known for her role as Princess Aura in the original Flash Gordon serial (1936).
She was born Priscilla Shortridge and was a professional model by her early twenties and was crowned Miss Miami Beach in 1935. She then received a contract with Universal Pictures, which led to her role in Flash Gordon as the daughter of Ming the Merciless. Lawson's competition with Jean Rogers for Buster Crabbe's attention in Flash Gordon is one of the centerpieces of the film. The role brought her cult figure status.
Following Flash Gordon, Priscilla Lawson married actor Alan Curtis and joined the armed forces in World War II under her married name. It is undocumented, but some people believe that she lost a leg in an accident while serving in the Women's Army Corps. (Another report claims that she lost her right leg in a 1937 automobile accident.) Lawson and Curtis eventually divorced, and she later managed a stationery shop in Los Angeles. Her untimely death at the young age of 44 resulted from upper gastrointestinal bleeding caused by a duodenal ulcer. She is interred at Live Oak Memorial Park in Los Angeles County, California.[1] :rip:

Yes, poor Brenda.
But her image will be forever tarnished because after the death of her son, she started a relationship with Tammy Bruce who was seventeen at the time. Nothing wrong with Brenda's bisexuality BUT good lord, a minor?

I'm STILL pissed that the CPS didn't get a move on it. Sadly, the same s**t is happening almost twenty years later. Our system is f**ked up, I can't think about Judith and Maria's final hour.
What's hardbreaking is when Vh1 does their 90th program on child stars, she doesn't get a menton but Cynthia Nixon who only starred in ONE movie is on the countdown, something is wrong. Judith was way more talented then half of those child stars, including The Olsen twins, Lindsay Lohan, and Alyssa Milano.

Well done for temporarily getting sidetracked by the brothers Gibb. :)
EmpressDR 01-15-2007, 08:50 PM You're welcome Sharop. I remembered who I was posting about.
in 1973 a young child singer named Lena Zavaroni made such a splash on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show, singing "Mama! He's Making Eyes at Me!"
She was amazing. I read that she'd committed suicide in the 1990s, after suffering a lack of career, and being anorexic. Poor girl. I never forgot her. I always thought if I visited the UK, I'd go see her perform and meet her.
Oh, OK, this says she only THREATENED to commit suicide, but died after an operation with a chest infection:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lena_Zavaroni :rip:
Lena Zavaroni was a Scottish singer (November 4, 1963 - October 1, 1999).
[edit] Early life and musical career
Lena grew up in the small town of Rothesay on the Isle of Bute[1] with musical parents. Her father Victor Zavaroni played the guitar, her mother Hilda sang and Lena herself sang from the age of 2.[2] Her Italian surname came from her immigrant grandfather.[2]
She was discovered in the summer of 1973 by record producer Tommy Scott who was on holiday in Rothesay and heard her singing in with her father and uncle in a band.[2] Scott contacted impressario Phil Solomon which led to his partner Dorothy Solomon becoming Zavaroni's manager.[2]
In 1974 she appeared on Hughie Green’s Opportunity Knocks and won the show for a record breaking 5 weeks running.[3] She followed this with the album Ma, He's Making Eyes At Me which reached number 8 in the UK album chart.[2] At 10 years 146 days old, she is still the youngest person to have an album in the top ten [4] and was also the youngest person to appear on the BBC's Top of the Pops.[2]
1974 also saw Zavaroni singing a Hollywood charity show with Frank Sinatra and Lucille Ball.[2] Ball commented "You’re special. Very special and very very good,"[2]although some sources attribute this to Sinatra.[5] Following this Zavaroni guest starred on the Carol Burnett Show.[2] She also appeared in the Morecambe and Wise Show, the 1976 Royal Variety Show and performed at the White House for US President Gerald Ford.[2]
While attending London's Italia Conti Academy stage school, Lena met and became long-term friends with child star Bonnie Langford.[5] The two starred in the TV show Lena and Bonnie.
Between 1980 and 1982 Lena had her own TV series on the BBC Lena Zavaroni and Music, which featured singing and dancing, and included guests such as Spike Milligan and Les Dawson.[6]
[edit] Illness and later years
From the age of 13 Zavaroni suffered from anorexia nervosa[3]. Whilst at stage school her weight dropped to 4 stone (25 kg).[3] Zavaroni blamed this on the pressure placed upon her to fit into costumes while at the same time she was "developing as a woman".[3]
She continued to suffer from anorexia throughout the 1980's and in 1989 she married computer consultant Peter Wiltshire.[3] The couple settled in North London but they separated 18 months later. Also in 1989 Zavaroni's mother, Hilda, died of a tranquilliser overdose and a fire destroyed all of her showbiz mementos.[3]
After the breakup of her marriage, Zavaroni moved to Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire to be nearer to her father and his second wife.[3] By this time she was living off state benefits and in 1999 was accused of stealing a 50p packet of jelly, although the charges were later dropped.[3]
Zavaroni underwent a number of drug treatments and received electroconvulsive therapy in an attempt to beat her anorexia.[7] Her inquest was told that none of these had been successful in the long term.[7] In addition she was suffering from depression and begged doctors to operate on her to relieve her depression.[7] Although the operation would not cure her anorexia she was desperate for it to go ahead and threatened suicide (she also took a drugs overdose) if it did not.[7]
In September 1999 Zavaroni was admitted to University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff for treatment and is believed to have undergone a leukotomy.[8] After the operation she appeared to be in a satisfactory condition[7] and after a week she was "making telephone calls, cheerful and engaging in conversation", even asking her doctor if he thought there was any chance that she would get back on stage.[7] However, three weeks after the operation, she developed a chest infection and died from pneumonia on 1 October.[1] She weighed less than 5 stone (32 kg).[7]
The link to "leukotomy" explained it's another term for a type of "lobotomy."
How horrible!
Here's a link to a tribute site for her:

I'm pretty sure she said she was in the house when Brenda killed herself. My jaw dropped, I knew Tammy was a lesbian but Brenda bi? I learn something new everyday.
