Starring Michael O'Keefe as Mike Dalton, the patriarch of his Ohio family. Mike is happily married to his wife, Renee (Connie Britton). Mike and Renee have a total of four children: 20-year-old twin daughters: Kelly and Katie (Kelly and Sabrina Aldridge), 17-year-old son: Luke (Ryan Pinkston), and 14-year-old son: Josh (Josh Hutcherson). Mike quit his office job to pursue his teenage dream of owning up his own restuarant. Renee works as a 2nd grade teacher. Kelly and Katie are off at Ohio State University living in the dorms (and come home every other weekend). The twin girls are very smart, pretty, and popular. Luke is a high school senior with no future goals that exceed his "weekend party plans"-much to his parents dismay. Luke is a cocky, smooth semi-popular guy who thinks he's "God's gift to women". Josh is a high school freshman who desperately just wants to fit in with "the popular kids" (like his older siblings do). Unlike the older ones, Josh isn't considered "cool" enough to be "popular" and finds himself fitting in with the "less popular kids" instead. Mike's new job change, the girls away at college, Luke's cocky attitude, and other issues that the Daltons face-make life just a little bit more complicated and harder to deal with.

While at college, Katie and Kelly get settled into their dorms and get re-acquainted with roommates.
Ep2: Fitting In:
A scorned Josh finds himself fitting in with the "less popular kids" at school, of whom he shares similar interests and hobbies with. Meanwhile, Renee freaks out when she realizes she can no longer fit into her old pair of jeans from her college days. Ep4: Nymphology 101:
At college, Katie fears Kelly is getting herself into trouble when Kelly starts hanging around with Nikki (Rachelle Lefevre), a girl with a reputation for "being easy" with male companions. Kelly ignores Katie's advice and ends up in over her head when Nikki's boyfriend hits on her and refuses to let her go until "somethin happens". But everyone's thrown for a loop when Josh's new friend, Sam is short for Samantha!
Ep5: Boys and Girls:
Luke and his new girlfriend, Carly (Joy Lauren) decide to take their new relationship to the next level--sex! Luke and Carly engaged in sex but their "afterglow" was interrupted by Josh walkin in on them in bed naked together. Luke bribes Josh to shut up and not say a word to their parents. Meanwhile, Kelly finds herself attracted to her roommate's boyfriend.
Ep6: Switcheroo:

Especially when Katie thinks she's falling for her sister's boyfriend. Meanwhile, Mike learns he must fire a slacker employee (Hailey Duff) who decides to flirt her way into letting Mike change his mind about firing her...and it works, much to Renee's dismay.

Renee, out of frustration, gives in and gets her keys in time to arrive an half hour late for a meeting at work, which causes Renee to become angry with Luke. When she gets home and sees Luke about to leave with Carly, she changes her mind and takes back her approval of him going-which causes Luke to become pissed. Meanwhile, Katie and Kelly are assigned to work on a Psychology project together-which only ends in arguments, disagreements, and hurt feelings as the twins can't agree upon a mutual interest to do project on.
Ep8: The Story Of Nikki Marie:

Ep10: Divorcing The Future:
Renee and Mike realize almost all of their married friends are divorced or getting a divorce, which makes them really think if someday they will get divorced like all of their once-happily married friends did.
