You Can't Do that on Television was a Laugh in of some sorts for kids. It first aired in Canada as a live show in 1979 and 1981, and nickelodeon picked it up in 1981, and they made new episodes until 1990, and they aired re-runs until 1994. the 1979 episodes mostly no longer exist, and the 1981 episodes+ the 1982 "Cosmetics" episode were never aired after 1987 on Nick due to the network trying to lower the show's demographics. I should also note the 1987 "Adoption" episode was banned in North America, and the 1984 "Divorce" episode was banned in Canada.

The Host of the show from 1979 to 1986 was Christine ("Moose") McGlade, and her co-host from 1985 to 1986 was Alasdair Gillis. The 1987 hosts were Vanessa Lindores (1982-1989), Adam Reid (1984-1987), and Doug Ptolemy (1982-1987) were the hosts of the 1987 season, and Chris Bickford (1989-1990) was host of the 1989 and 1990 seasons.
Les Lye played all the adult male characters for the entire run of the show, for the national canadian version in 1979, Ruth Buzzi played all the adult female characters, and Abby Haggard played all the adult female characters starting in 1982.
Some of the famous cast members are: Lisa ("Motormouth") Ruddy, Kevin Kubuscheski, Kevin Schenk, Kevin Somers, Rodney Helal, Martin Kerr, and a WHOLE lot others.

I should also mention that none of these kids were professional actors-all were local school kids from Ontario and Quebec schools.

I have approximately half the episodes on tape.

Does this help you?

It was an extremely popular show, especially from 1979 to 1985.

Ok, I'm new here.

Hey, Beta why were several of those episodes banned in Canada and the U.S.? You didn't specify a reason. Were they anti-patriotic or something? How could they be offensive? It was a kid's show for Pete's sake!

I remember those shows when they went to syndication mostly and I was a teenager then. It was well done considering the budgets they had to work with.

Would you ever consider sharing or renting out those videos or even selling copies?

I am aware that Alanis Morrisette appeared briefly for a couple of seasons but I don't remember her being there and am curious to see her again back then.

(this is Betaman8 under a different name)

The 1987 "Adoption" episode was banned in north america because it spoofed adoption with some badly tasted jokes, and alot of adopted kids were upset about it, so they aired it once, and pulled it forever from the rotation. the 1984 "Divorce" episode was banned simply because the network that aired it in canada hated it. it aired alot in america though.

I rarely watch this show...I only watched the Alanis Moressette episodes, and then a few others that weren't very good.

Ok, thanx Beta/Crazy Dude. Hehe

I appreciate the reply. I'm assuming that the "Divorce" episode had to do with the general topic of divorce? I know, duh, you moron! Hehe

Laterz.

I'm actually looking for any original Nickelodeon airings of this show, with original commercials.

Oh man I miss that show I love it when I first got Nickelodeon when it came out in 79. I had a big crush on Christine and Lisa. I also miss the sci-fi show The Third Eye that came after it around 7PM.

Hey Betaman. Do you have any episodes from 1979-1981 that aired before Nickelodeon picked up the series? You know, with Ruth Buzzi? I would really be interested. I have about 20 eps, one from 1981. When I was 10, I wondered why Nick stopped airing eps from 1981. They would skip right to 1982 and go from there. Do you have the adoption or divorvce episode?

I have about 20 of the episodes on tape....found a very nice guy advertising on ebay. Purchased some from him, and mentioned certain episodes I would love to have, and he custom made them for me, so that I didn't have videos of some eps I didn't really care for.

I will look and see if I still have his email addy, and will PM it to someone if they are interested.

I do have some caps from YCDTOTV in my gallery...take a look at them!
