I just watched The Awakening Land a few days ago for the first time and absolutely loved it. It was like Little House on the Prairie with an edge. EM, Hal Holbrook, Jane Seymour and the rest of the cast were all great. It was actually filmed in the midwest, unlike Little House's "prairie", the rugged mountain terrain of SoCal. EM & HH were each nominated for Lead Acting Emmys, but lost to Michael Moriarty and Meryl Streep (!) of Holocaust. I also enjoyed her multi-layered performance as Lizzie Borden, and she lost the Emmy there too! I will always love her first and foremost as Samantha, but watching her later work has made me respect her range as an actress even more!

I also enjoyed her performance as Lizzie Borden. Wasn't she in a movie a
couple of years before she died ? I can't remember the name of it.

Her last 2 TV movies were as real-life crime reporter Edna Buchanan, and they aired in 1994 (The Corpse Had A Familiar Face) and 1995 (Deadline for Murder). The latter aired only 9 days before she passed in May 1995.

Got to be the Lizzie Borden film-man, what a fright show! I sure would love to see that one again! Does anybody know if it came out on DVD?

Another wonderful Mini-series that is rarely mentioned that
Elizabeth Montgomery did in 1982, was a 2 part 4 hour Mini-series called The Rules of Marriage.

Starring Elizabeth Montgomery,Elliot Gould Telling the Story about a 15 year old marriage that hits the crossroads,a very adult & Frank look at married life,as both seek comfort in the arms of others when they deny each other their own comfort,the effect on their children & their own lives as they begin to discover what is really important in life & to them.

It was very well done, very adult, honest & sophisticated, especially for that time.

It was so well done it looked as if you were watching real life in front of you.

Deadline for Murder:From the Files of Edna Buchanan was seen on May.9th,1995
and was the last movie Elizabeth Montgomery ever did.
In she played a real life Pulitzer prize winning crime reporter Edna Buchanan in Miami.

Excellent drama with many funny comedic moments.

The Legend of Lizzie Borden was a very chilling and creepy movie. You never once think of EM as Samantha during the movie. I believe this is the only dramatic role I've ever seen Katherine Helmond (Soap, Who's the Boss) in. She plays Lizzie's sister Emma.

I think this movie should be shown on TV every Halloween, as I think it's one of the spookiest TV movies ever made!!

Pretty much any movie that Liz has starred in has been a winner, which makes it hard to narrow down my choice but if i really had to, my top 2 Elizabeth Montgomery movies would be THE VICTIM (1972) with Eileen Heckart , George Maharis and a very young Jess Walton and the 3 part 7 hr mini series THE AWAKENING LAND (1978).

The Victim was the first made for tv movie that Liz did after Bewitched and watching this as a kid scared the life out of me...i found it really creepy and very suspenseful. The majority of the movie finds Liz stuck in a huge old rustic country home during an awful rain storm trying to find out where her sister went and why she is missing. It's funny but even today as an adult , knowing what happens in the movie, I still find myself getting chills while watching it. Its certainly not an Oscar calibre type movie by any means, but all the same is a great "Chiller" type movie and Liz gives a great performance in it.

Awakening Land is an epic classic that again, I never tire of watching. Tracing the life of Sayward Luckett Wheeler from a teen as she grows up in the wild and dangerous Ohio lands with her family starting out poor with nothing and ending up with alot in her older years. All the horrors and the joys of the hardship of living back then are realistically portayed in the series. I also love the "soundtrack" that opens and closes each part of the series. A real tear jerker that will move you. Again excellent portrayal by Ms. Montgomery.

EM was so chilling in the title role - you never once think of her as Samantha Stephens! What were the Emmy voters thinking when they passed over her in favor of Kate Hepburn that year?? :confused: :mad:

I'll have to watch Awakening Land again soon. That's too long a movie to see on a weekday, however...maybe a weekend real soon. :)

I actually liked seeing her in "The Court Martial of Billy Mitchell." It's not a large part she played, but she was really young in the movie (I think about 22). Plus, the movie itself was really good, I thought.

Just about. EM married her first husband in 1954 and the marriage ended after just over a year. She married Gig Young (over the objection of her parents) in 1956.

What was the meaning behind that necklace?

EM wore that necklace constantly throughout the first few years of Bewitched - on camera and off. It was a gift given to her by her then-husband, Bewitched director/producer William Asher.

I never knew that. I had always wondered if there was something significant abt that necklace. Now I know.

Virtually every Bewitched website or book (especially Bewitched Forever) mentions that story. That was a sweet gesture, wasn't it? :D It was a white gold pave diamond heart.

It was a sweet gesture. And made even sweeter by her wearing it off and on screen. I would have done that myself.
