According to broadcastingcable.com, Fremantle Media is currently pitching a new version of Match Game for the 2007-08 season. I'm not surprised, especially with the long endurance of this hilarious, legendary game show. After seeing Match Game on CBS' Gameshow Marathon last summer, I agree with one possibility-Kathy Griffin and Bruce Vilanch should be considered to be regular panelists. In the classic show, Charles Nelson Reilly and Brett Somers were as cantankerous and funny as any comical duo on a game show. I believe Kathy Griffin and Bruce Vilanch would be just as cantankerous and funny, maybe more. Throw in four more panelists, eliminate the star wheel, increase the prize money values for the Super Audience Match round(preferably 2 matches before the Head to Head match), have a returning champion stay on as long as five games, three rounds of questions and a funny host, who can interract with the panelist. Aside from Charles and Brett, the legendary Gene Rayburn is also the reason for the longevity and endurance of Match Game. Gene's been gone for more than 7 years, now, so no host can ever be like him. However, that's not really necessary when the host can just be himself, create his own characters and not try to be Gene. I was thinking the next host of Match Game could be Craig Shoemaker, who hosted VH1's short-lived game show,My Generation and like Kathy and Bruce, also served as a panelist on Hollywood Squares with Tom Bergeron. Craig could create his own characters in the questions as well as his own game show monologue. For female viewers, if Fremantle selects Craig Shoemaker to be the next host of Match Game, since there are hardly any game show hosts with moustaches and/or beards(Richard Karn was the last moustached and bearded game show host and Alex Trebek shaved off his moustache years ago), he should grow out his moustache and beard, again, and sport both on the show as the host. Now, as whom I'd think could announce on Match Game, in my opinion, it would be a toss-up between Burton Richardson and Rich Fields. No matter who Fremantle selects for the next version of Match Game, I'd love to see the show again.
