The reason I ask this question is because on the jeffersons they talk about how bad the neighborhood was about how poor it was. To me it really did not look that bad.

I didn't think it was that bad either. I really don't understand what made the apartment so special when they had their own show.

The Bunkers lived in a blue collar area of Queens.

The Jeffersons' Manhattan apartment was a very big deal.
If you've ever lived in NYC you could appreciate their place.
A high rise building on the upper east side with a doorman. Four bathrooms. I believe it had 3 bedrooms. A terrace. An eat-in kitchen. That's huge for NYC.

The neighborhood didn't seem too bad, but it did see its share of crime.
On one episode Gloria was assaulted when she walked by a construction
site and a man hurt Edith inside her own home. Also Mike and Beverly
LaSalle were assaulted just down the street from their house. So it probably
wasn't the greatest place to live, but it wouldn't be called a ghetto.

On the Jeffersons I think that they were talking about their old neighborhood that they lived in before George owned his own Dry Cleaners and before they moved into the Bunkers neighborhood.

There was an episode of All in the Family when we find out that Lionel and his family are moving in next door to the Bunkers, So the Jeffersons lived somewhere else before they moved into Queens (the bunkers neighborhood).

They lived in Harlem if I am not mistaken.

Yes the Jeffersons were talking about when they lived on 125th street in Harlem not Queens
