HOLLYWOOD - Britney Spears has reached out to fans in a posting on her Web site, pleading with them to stick by her in 2007.
The singer reveals she feels more "mature" and "free" following her split from Kevin Federline, but apologizes to fans for the negative publicity her recent partying has attracted, revealing she was saddened by the recent closure of a leading fansite, WorldOfBritney.com.

Spears blames the press for exaggerating her behavior, but promises her forthcoming comeback album with reward the fans who have stuck by her.

The 25-year-old writes, "The last couple of years have been quite a ride for me, the media has criticized my every move and printed a skewed perception of who I really am as a human being. Behind every decision I have made in my public life there always seems to be an apparent contradiction.

"The last couple of years have been very enlightening for me and now that I've had the time to be 'me', I've been able to sit down and think about where I want to go with myself as an entertainer with absolutely no strings attached. I am now more mature and feel like I am finally 'free.'

"I've been working so hard on this new album and I can't wait for you all to hear it and to go on tour again! I would like to exclusively tell you that I am working hard to release the new album sometime later this year, but the date is of course not certain yet. I look forward to coming back this year bigger and better than ever, and to also reaching out to my fans on a more personal level.

"I noticed today that one of my biggest fansites is shutting down soon and I want you all to know that I do understand all the reasons that went behind making that decision, and I am sad to see it closing. If I were you I'd be unhappy too if I had to read what I've been reading every day. But trust me, I get it. I know I've been far from perfect and the media has had a lot of fun exaggerating my every move, but I want you all to know that I love my fans so much, and I appreciate everything you have done for me, so thank you, thank you, thank you!"

So about 10 people will be rewarded? I considered myself a fan of Britney until a few weeks after she filed for divorce. Thanks to her constant hard-partying, and constant lack of underwear, I realised that she IS trash and I doubt that her new album will even come out this year. She'll probably be in rehab.

That skank needs to stop partying and concentrating on her kids. Where the hell are they? Who watches them while she is being scandalous? Forget the fans, BE A MOTHER!!!! Such a country bumpkin.

Britney, you've had your fun now that you've dumped whatshisname, now disappear for a while.
From what i've read the few songs you've worked on for your new album have not been up to snuff, and rumor has it that Jive Records is gonna drop you like a hot potato.

Get into the studio and work nonstop on your album for the next year. Then maybe your fans will come back.

I really wouldn't be surprised. She needs to get her act together...I want her to because I would like her see her being successful again. But she really needs to get her priorities. Her kids and her career are the important things, not partying.

While I'm not a fan of her music, I can understand why she did the things she did. She's finally free (besides having two children) and she had some fun that went too far. Give her a break. There are hundreds of people that party like this all the time; the only reason that she gets bashed for it is because she's famous.

I think she needs to go out of the limelight for a while too, and most importantly be a good mother to her 2 kids!!!! Maybe she can re-emerge in a few years, but just give it a rest, Brit.

But the thing is that even though she posted this letter on her website, she doesn't appear to have taken what she said on board. Last night she was out doing what she's being doing every night. She's a mess.

She's a mess.
maybe so, but you have to understand that press blows things waaaay out of proportion.

...and if she has a problem with a drug, the only way she can really get help is on her own. That's the only way she'll learn.

I think she just needs to chill for awhile. She should go into hiding or something and raise her two young children and then come back when she's seriously matured.

Hate to say this, but I think she should just go away. She will never reach the status she had when she released her first album. I wish her the best, maybe she will make me eat my words (but I doubt it). :)
