Is there anyone out there who was actually around when Happy Days aired for the first time; or, is there anyone who has been fortunate enough to catch early syndication packages that came before the one that Nick at Nite/TVLand have?

The reason I ask is curiosity about the "Rock Around The Clock" openings. I used to watch the show on TBS when I was in my early teens, and I remember that when season two aired, it seemed as though there were several different opening sequences used.

SEASON TWO-VERSION ONE: Potsie and Ralph clowning around: Ralph gets a burger stuffed in his bullhorn by Marcia; Potsie pulls back the photo booth curtain to see Fonzie kissing a girl; Potsie taps Ralph, thinking he's making out with someone; Ralph loses the lid on the salt; Potsie grabs the waitress, kisses her and then gets a sundae in his lap.

SEASON TWO-VERSION TWO: This version was shorter and showed Fonzie kicking a soda machine and a soda coming out; Richie and Potsie on skates, taking off a teacher's hair piece; Richie and his date flopping back on Potsie and his date in the backseat.(Does anyone know if there was ever a full version of this opening or was it always a short one?)

SEASON TWO-VERSION THREE:This one was actually taken from the first season and involved Potsie and Richie doing a Chinese fire drill; Fonzie in the mirror; Mr. Cunningham trying to start Richie's new car; Marcia dropping ice cream in the police car window.

SEASON TWO-VERSION FOUR: This last one I only remember seeing once and it featured Ralph losing the lid when he pours the salt; Potsie and Richie tapping shoulders in a movie theatre with dates; the Potsie/Richie taking the hair piece scene, and then the Chinese fire drill again.

Are there any I'm not aware of?

The reason I'm asking is that I have a friend who insists there was also a version where Joanie is wearing Mickey Mouse ears.. I have never seen this in any of the opening credits; has anyone else?

I know that when the show aired on Nick At Nite, they changed around the second season openings to only feature the first two versions I mentioned.

I hope that when the second season DVD is finally issued, it features all of the orginal opening sequences.

You are dead on. I was 9 when the series priemired. The first season was short, as it was a mid season replacement, so the openings changed betwen the January 1974 opening and the September 1974 opening.

i'm not old enough to remember the original airings of the first two seasons, but the syndicated openings are DEFINATELY shortened; when you compare it to the season one DVD, it has the majority of all those scenes in the FULL OPENING.
