View Full Version : Absent Characters Teck 01-05-2007, 12:36 AM Sorry, If this has already been posted, but are there any episodes with of the four principles missing (Ward, June, Wally, Beaver)? If so, what are they? Thanks! JudgeGarth 01-05-2007, 07:15 PM I'm not sure about this one, but how about the one where Miss Landers overhears Beaver say a bad word and sends a note home to his parents. Ward is out of town, so Beaver gives it to Wally instead and has him go with him to see Miss Landers. Was Ward in that one at all? He may have been in it very briefly at the beginning. You refer to "Substitute Father", I think ward's in that one but I don't know? Does anyone know about absent characters? tdr 01-09-2007, 09:05 PM Yes, Beaumont [Ward] is in that ep in the opening scene, in which he is frantically getting ready to catch a cab to the airport to go to St. Louis. The boys first make a issue about the hat he is taking, trying to make sure he actually wears it (don't know exactly what that does for them  ), and then he makes his little speech to Wally about being the "man of the house" while he's gone, setting up Beaver's plot to avoid taking June to his school and tell what he said. It seems a reasonable assumption that Beaumont just had a week off, and this opening scene could have been filmed later (or maybe sooner). Regardless, sitcom characters can't just go out the door to catch a ride; there's always panicky last minute details and honking by the curb, and making the driver wait with last minute words in spite of their hurry  . And no, I can't think of any ep in the entire series run that one of Cleavers did not appear at all. camdog 02-05-2007, 04:54 PM Yes ward was in this in the very beginning. Waterston_Fan 08-19-2007, 10:40 PM Okay, cool.. this is a good thread to ask this on.... I haven't seen this episode in a long time so.... Do we know if Ward ever finds out what Beaver said? Or is this one of those times where Wally helps Beaver out and Ward doesn't know about what he said... I don't remember if June ever found out what Beaver said though. Rezny@gmail.com 08-19-2007, 11:48 PM And,in the 1962 new house episode,"Brother versus Brother",in which an older Beaver fell for a girl in his class named Mary Tyler, who when she saw Wally, immediately shunned Beaver and fell for Wally, creating friction between Wally and Beaver briefly, who made up at the end,and it was good when they BOTH dumped her.She deserved it.Hugh Beaumont's Ward character was featured only at the breakfast table in this one. tdr 08-19-2007, 11:53 PM No, we're not told if Ward ever found out what Beaver said. However, I don't think June can be assumed to have said nothing about it to Ward; not really because of the unique characters, June and Ward, but just because a married couple, in a stable marriage and home life, seldom would keep such a thing a secret. In fact, since June did not demand that Beaver tell her exactly what he said to the other boy-- this time taking the unique characters into consideration-- she may have told Ward that she did not in order to get him to get it out of Beaver. If so-- from there, we don't know...maybe Beaver told Ward and Ward told him to never say that at school, but then laughed it off and told Beaver about what he used to say to other kids who gave him trouble. But then Ward might stop himself if he gets into what his war and SeaBees experience.... Waterston_Fan 08-19-2007, 11:58 PM Have they ever mentioned how long Ward goes out of town? Maybe a week or a week and a half? I might be wrong but I think there was an episode where June (Billingsley) was not in all the episode called 'Aunt Martha'? Where June goes to be with her sister and she isn't in the whole episode... Maybe the beginning? |
