Unfunny...Mash is boring..I'll watch TV Land again when it gets back to normal programming. TV Land needs to put back some of the older comedies NOT on DVD.

The ONLY way TVLAND will air a show that's been off the air for years is if it comes out on DVD. I just think that the people at TVLAND are "ratings moochers".

This is actually the first time in a while I've had TV Land on in the background in my room. I have every episode of M*A*S*H, plus those reunion specials on DVD, so I don't watch the episodes with my full attention. But if the marathon's on, and I'm online or something, I'll have it on. Then I eat breakfast to it when I wake up around 5:30am.

As for it being boring, that's a matter of opinion, of course. It can be boring at times to me too. It's never been a show that I've laughed out loud at. I just like the characters and find it to be humorous. But of course, it's more of a dramedy than a situation comedy.

With all that said, I, too wish TV Land would show some shows that are more rare and not on all day on other channels. I love M*A*S*H, but it used to air all the time on FX then it moved to all the time on Hallmark, and now it's on TV Land as well as Hallmark. And with every episode (251 of 'em) on DVD, it's not a show I'll sit down and watch on cable TV. The syndicated episodes are too chopped up. They cut out a lot great scenes, too. :(

I sense a lil sarcasm "AKA", but weekend marathon would have been enough. Even if they would have to spread it apart for a month to get through all the episodes, that would be fine. I just would like a little more variety in the station.

I think "Adamantium" said it best, "it's never been a show that I've laughed out loud at. I just like the characters and find it to be humorous. But of course, it's more of a dramedy than a situation comedy."

I prefer a good ole fashioned comedy. Hogans Heroes over MASH anytime.
Just my opinion.

As for the "critically-acclaimed, groundbreaking, popular show whose finale was only one of the most-watched events in television history", so was "Who Shot J.R.!

Just to clarify, wasn't debating anyone's opinion. I'm merely pointing out the absurdity of the question "Who'd want to watch a marathon of this crappy show anyway?" Whether it's your own personal cup of tea or not, the fact of the matter is that M*A*S*H is, and continues to be, a wildly successful television series.

If you don't like it, God bless you. That's fine. There a lot of things the majority of the general public likes that I can't stand.

I'm glad TVLand had this marathon. It was the first time I was able to see the series finale.

I'm glad too. The marathon has actually renewed my interest in the show. I bought the season 1 dvd 4 years ago and I thought it was an ok show but wasn't interested in getting anymore season sets. I used to watch it on Hallmark once in a while but couldn't really get into it. Now I'm hooked. I must have seen about 50 episodes this week and I've been watching my MASH season 1 dvd for the first time in about 3 years. I'm thinking about getting the rest of the seasons on DVD.

I hate "M*A*S*H". It is one of the worst shows in all of television. Stupid, boring, depressing, and VERY unwatchable. TVLand should of never acquired it. The show is on the Hallmark Channel a few times a day and the complete series all 11 seasons is available on DVD. This means that there is NO reason for it to be on TVLand. TVLand just needs to get the credit for everything. I am so sick of TVLand that it would not bother me if my cable company took TVLand off the channel lineup. They seem to be aiming lower, not higher. In conclusion, I made sure when I watched television this week that I did not stop my remote at TVLand. Its my message to TVLand that I am not going to be a part of the high ratings they expect of the "M*A*S*H" weeklong marathon.

Adamantium

The only part of the marathon I don't like is when they air the movie. I have the movie on DVD and it's okay, but I'm not really a fan of it. I've stated it before the show and movie are two different things and just because they air a marathon of the show doesn't mean they should add the movie in the mix as well.

I understand a lot of people's anger over TV Land airing M*A*S*H. Because it is still on Hallmark, and of course complete on DVD. And before that it was on all the time on FX. However, as a fan of the show, it's nice to see it with the TV Land logo in the corner of the screen.

I always thought that M*A*S*H should have been on N@N or TVLand back in the mid 1990s. I always wondered why it wasn't. And then, before it came to TV Land, I had assumed it never would come to either channel. So I was quite surprised that it was picked up after all these years.

Oh and for the record, I would LOVE it if Dobie Gillis and Car 54 came to TV Land. I love those old shows. And I miss them. N@N used to be so great. And I didn't appreciate it when those shows were on because I was a kid then. I just sort of assumed they would be on TV forever.

We've actually have new people signing on to these message boards just so they can voice thier displeasure over M*A*S*H being added to TVLand.

Wow.

I know, i know, everyone is entitled to an opinon (positive or negative) about a program and I respect that. But I always believed that flaming a show just becasue you don't care for it is not very polite.

And out of courtesy for my fellow board members, I have always held my tongue (okay, most of the time) about some programs that I absolutley dispise, because I don't want to offend the folks who enjoy that program.

I won't be doing that anymore, after seeing this overhwleming display of affection towards a show that I enjoy.

The TV Land Programming Board is full of complaints too, it's not just here. I agree that a weekend marathon would have been more than enough, this isn't really fair to people that like other shows that air between 6p-8a on TV Land that aren't airing right now. I've really missed Beaver this week.

I've never been a big fan of MASH, and normally I wouldn't even complain but TVLand is absolutely OVERSATURATING us with it.

It seems like TVLand is now dedicating itself to only 4 or 5 shows instead of a VARIETY of classic shows, just to boost their ratings a LITTLE BIT. I can turn to TVLand anytime of day and I KNOW that it is going to be Bonanzmoke, Andy Griffith, I Pity the Fool, or MASH. When I look through their schedule, there is really only about 2 hours of programming PER WEEK that I am interested in - and that's pretty sad news for a fan of "classic television" .

So you're upset because a cable channel is showing a television show you don't enjoy? Honestly, it's just TV. Nothing to get worked up over. Turn to a different channel, or [gasp] turn your set off and do something else.

It just kind of seems silly to me to be mad that a TV channel doesn't cater to all your tastes.

And I'm with you, TJL. I'm a big fan of M*A*S*H, and I don't get all the venomous hatred for the show. If one doesn't like it, that's absolutely fine, but to whine endlessly because TV Land is showing it instead of Barney Miller is riduculous and borders on pathetic.

This isn't the first time I've seen something like this, though. I remember a lot of disgust being expressed on this board years ago when Nick At Nite was showing Cheers a lot and not showing The Facts Of Life at all. Someone was so irate, in fact, that he/she threatened to go to Nick At Nite's boardroom and shoot all their executives in the head.

Okay, you actually might have a valid point there. But I have an honest question (I don't really pay close attention to TV Land): is this the first time they've done something like this for a show they've recently acquired, or is a five-day marathon standard practice?

Keep in mind that M*A*S*H ran for eleven years, so it has considerably more episodes than many of the other shows they air.

i'm with TVResearcher. A 5 day marathon is bit much.

I *love* MASH, tho (look at my screen name) but when you think about it, having a week of MASH, then add it to your line-up, why do that? They'll just show the same episodes over again. Plus, people have the DVDs. Like I said in another section, they need to be showing "new" shows. Like Mister Ed, or shows that aren't on DVD.

I agree 110%.

Come on guys...I know that M*A*S*H, like any other show, has fans. It also, like any other show, has people who don't like it for whatever reason.

To dislike a show is a matter of opinion, and you are more than entitled to state your opinions.

However, some of these comments are a little over the top.

It's only fair to acknolwedge that M*A*S*H is one of the most award-winning sitcoms ever. It's finale is still one of the most watched television events ever!

Maybe 5 days for that length of time is too much, but different channels do these extensive marathons for other, less-deserving shows!

When I posted the original message on this board, it was with no intent to "bash" the MASH fans. I originally posted a comment similiar to this on TV Land's message board, but it was removed the next day. I apologize if I offended anyone.

I agree with TV Researcher about 5 day marathon too long for any show, I love the Twilight Zone marathon every time it shows on sci-fi, but 2-3 days are plenty.

I have never really watched M*A*S*H so I can't say I'm for it or against it, but if you think about it, if TV Land just showed all the shows they have under contract once a day (or every other day--however they can fit everything in), they'd show a great variety. Of course you are always going to have people who will bitch and complain no matter what (just check the TV Land message boards--some of those people are unbearable), but at least there'd be less favoritism.

On the other hand we all know the almighty dollar factors into everything but sometimes you do have to question the moves they make.

Why don't these stations ever listen to viewer's feedback? People complained to TVLand over this- Many in Canada complained to CanWest over this same issue.

I appreciate the reunion shows, because MASH had a huge impact on the American public. But, rerunning it six-eight-ten-forty (JOKE!) times is a bit redundant.

I think N@N should just rename itself the CosFreshRose network, and TVLand should be the "On-and-Off" network, since the shows appear and disappear so quickly.

All of your favorite shows suck. Jeffersons and Good Times never made me laugh. I have watched both of them over the years and I never thoght they were anything close to the status you claim them to be.

Don't forget award-winning, on for eleven seasons (producing 251 episodes), had the highest rated finale EVER and classic.

I can understand people not liking a particular show, but hating a show with that much passion is pointless.

And another thing.

I understand people being upset that a show that's already on another channel and before that another channel and local stations, and is released complete on DVD came to TV Land and had a week long marathon. But it seems that everyone is just bashing the actual show itself. That's what gets me so mad. Because I really like this show and it has MANY fans. Didn't Pav say it was number 1 amongst 18-45 year olds, or some age demographic like that? So it's a popular show still to this day.

And you can state your opinions on not liking the marathon, but it's all this "The show is awful, this show is so unfunny, this show is the worst show ever!" that makes you come off like little brats.

And I agree with TJL that The Jeffersons and Good Times are dated. I can still watch them, of course, though I hardly do. M*A*S*H isn't dated either. I was just thinking that while watching the marathon and DVDs. Here it's 2007 and this show from the 70s & 80s about the 50s is not dated in any way. And I applaud it for that. Because it was a very human show. That's what kept it from becoming dated as the years go by.

We get it Solomon, you don't like M*A*S*H, don't ruin it for us who do.

During the summer I was saying the same thing about Gunsmoke. I don't know why people say something is crap because they don't like it.

I think I'm guilty of calling "The Nanny" crap in the past. I still don't like the show, nor do I find it funny. However, it does have fans and it does make people laugh. So it can't be crap. If any show means something to anyone, it's not crap. People get really nasty when they bash a show, that the people who like the show get offended.

I love "Wings". I don't get upset if someone says "Wings really isn't for me. I just can't get into it." But if they say, "Wings Sucks! It's boring and unfunny! It belongs on PBS (that one I got from Solomon, lol)" Then it gets me mad.

Not one person is going to like every single show ever made. Different shows are made for different audiences. That's all.

There are a ton of shows I don't like, I just stay out of the disscusions of those shows. I don't want to read about them or watch them so it works for me.

And I said it's not Fair for to Fans of other shows to have to watch a marathon of the same show ALL WEEK. I never bashed the show, i even said the Jeffersons shouldn't be on all week. NO SHOW should be all week long

I understand that. And that's how I felt about N@N showing a weeklong marathon of nothing but Fresh Prince. I like Fresh Prince, though I hardly watch it on N@N, but rather DVD. But it deprives fans of the other shows a chance to watch their favorites. So we're in agreement there.

I was really mad when N@N replaced the NewsRadio marathon (my favorite show) with another Roseanne marathon.

All this anger against M*A*S*H is really quite hilarious. How hard is it to just turn off the television when a show you are not fond of is on the air? And all these folks trying to attack M*A*S*H on its merits have absolutely no understanding of its impact on the television landscape. Just take the week off, read a book, and wait for the marathon to be over. Is that so hard?

It's stupid to argue about this. Nobody went to the MASH Board and bashed the show. This is on the General Sitcoms Board. I do like MASH, I always have and I like The Jeffersons and Good Times too. In fact I can't think of any 70's hit sitcom I didn't like. Just because someone doesn't like a show is no reason to call them names. I hate Friends and have admited it on the boards and have been attacked for it. I've never went to their board to bash it though. Some people need to chill out....It's just someone's opinion. It doesn't mean MASH wasn't a good show.

TJL please don't come to the thread to start arguments.Nobody was arguing until certain people came into thsi thread. Why come into this tread to argue when you can go to the Mash board and talk to other Mash fans.

TJL's not the one who started this nonsense, he's the one who has had to defend the show against people not as fond of it. (Personally, I happen to love both M*A*S*H AND Jeffersons AND GoodTimes)

Folks, if you don't like what's on a channel, TURN THE CHANNEL. NO one is forcing you to watch *anything*. There are a quadrillion other channels out there that would love to have your viewership. Enough with the complaining, enough with the personal stuff, Enough

Let's not get all upset over a sitcom or a dramedy. It isn't worth it. One man's trash is another man's treasure. While I am not the biggest MASH fan, I don't hate it either. This seems so unlike you TJL I am surprised. As for you Solomon, we get it, you hate MASH, no need for the horrible comparisons. Let's just chill.

I thought this Thread was appropiate because it's on the General Board not the Mash Board. If someone created a thread like this about the Jeffersons, I wouldn't care as long as it wasn't on the Jeffersons Board

It's just really weird because some people just registered to bash the show. That is very suspicious to me.
