# Plot Synopsis: A grizzly bear named Boog, domesticated by a park ranger, Beth, helps deer friend Elliot escape from the mullet-sporting hunter, Shaw. When the animals escape to the forest the pair become lost just as hunting season begins, made worse by the fact Boog doesn't know how to survive outside of his beloved ranch. Elliott and Boog develop a strong bond not only between themselves but also with the wild animals and attempt to drive the hunters out of the forest.

7. Flight 93

Three months before the much-publicized theatrical release of United 93, the same true-life tragedy was faithfully dramatized in Flight 93, an equally praiseworthy TV movie that was originally broadcast on the A&E network on January 30, 2006. The fourth plane to be hijacked on September 11th, 2001 – and the only plane that didn't reach its intended terrorist target – is the riveting subject of this film, which unfolds in real-time (similar but not identical to United 93), beginning with the terrorists' preparations and boarding of the ill-fated flight. We then follow the notorious events as they unfold, and from that moment on, it's nearly impossible to take your eyes off the screen. The intense drama focuses on the passengers who ultimately thwarted the terrorists – they include Tom Burnett (Jeffrey Nordling), Todd Beamer (Brennan Elliot), and Mark Bingham (Ty Olsson) – but as their counter-attack plans are being made, the action also reveals the chaotic nature of the ground response, from the White House bunker (where Vice President Cheney was moved for security) to Offices of the Federal Aviation Agency, Verizon headquarters (where in-flight calls were monitored), and United Airlines flight control, where pilots and terrorists alike could be heard throughout the terrible ordeal of the hijacking.

To his credit, director Peter Markle steers clear from any sense of exploitation (it helps that there was a five-year gap between the 9/11 tragedy and this respectable film); furthermore, both Markle and screenwriter Nevin Schreiner avoid the pitfalls of melodrama by keeping the action rooted in the facts as we know them. Speculation is necessary for some of the dramatic details, but Flight 93 benefits from a well-chosen cast of unknowns, which enhances our belief in them as ordinary citizens under extraordinary circumstances. As you might expect, several scenes are inherently unforgettable (up to and including the now heroic phrase "Let's roll!" as the counter-attack begins), and the authentically played emotions are further intensified by realistic special effects by Gary Gutierrez, who performed similarly laudable duties on The Right Stuff 23 years earlier, at the start of his visual effects career. Produced with the cooperation of surviving family members of those who perished on Flight 93, this well-made TV film handles difficult material with grace under pressure, and that alone serves as an admirable tribute to those brave passengers who gave their lives so that others could be saved. --Jeff Shannon

Tagline: The Most Amazing Story Of Survival, Friendship, And Adventure Ever Told.
Plot Outline Brutal cold forces two Antarctic explorers to leave their team of sled dogs behind as they fend for their survival.
Plot Synopsis: In the Antarctic, after an expedition with Dr. Davis McClaren (Bruce Greenwood), the sled dog trainer Jerry Shepherd (Paul Walker) has to leave the polar base with his colleagues due to the proximity of a heavy snow storm. He ties his dogs to be rescued after, but the mission is called-off and the dogs are left alone at their own fortune. For six months, Jerry tries to find a sponsor for a rescue mission while his dogs fight for survival.

5. United 93

Tagline:September 11, 2001. Four planes were hijacked. Three of them reached their target. This is the story of the fourth.
Plot Outline A real time account of the events on United Flight 93, one of the planes hijacked on 9/11 that crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania when passengers foiled the terrorist plot.
Plot Synopsis: Emotionally-packed and moving fact-based story about the passengers aboard doomed flight United 93 that was the fourth terrorist attack plane on September 11, 2001. The passengers on the flight, as a result of a delay on takeoff that placed them behind the planned attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, are able to learn of the attacks and discern that this is no mere high-jacking. While the real events that caused the ultimate crash of the plane can never be known, the events depicted would appear to be as might be expected. The scariest part of the film is the unpreparedness of the FAA and the military in dealing with the situation, which is also well-depicted here.

4. We Are Marshall

After a plane crash takes the lives of most of Marshall University's football team, new coach Jack Lengyel (Matthew McConaughey) must rally the surviving players and a grieving community to victory. Based on true events, this inspiring drama follows Lengyel and his assistant coach (Matthew Fox) as they try to renew Marshall's football program and help the close-knit West Virginia town find new hope. David Strathairn and Anthony Mackie co-star.

3. World Trade Center

Plot Outline Two Port Authority police officers become trapped under the rubble of the World Trade Center.
Plot Synopsis: In the aftermath of the World Trade Center disaster, hope is still alive. Refusing to bow down to terrorism, rescuers and family of the victims press forward. Their mission of rescue and recovery is driven by the faith that under each piece of rubble, a co-worker, a friend a family member may be found. This is the true story of John McLoughlin and William J. Jimeno, two of the last survivors extracted from Ground Zero and the rescuers who never gave up. It's a story of the true heroes of that fateful time in the history of the United States when buildings would fall and heroes would rise, literally from the ashes to inspire the entire human race.

2. 3 Days In September

THREE DAYS IN SEPTEMBER is the dramatic story of the 2004 Chechen terrorist attack and three-day siege of a school in southern Russia. When it was over, 331 people lay dead — 176 of them children.

The film is narrated by Julia Roberts. She introduces audiences to Beslan, a small, rural city of nearly 35,000 people situated at the foot of Russia's beautiful Caucasus mountains, a thousand miles from Moscow. The journey through THREE DAYS IN SEPTEMBER begins with 16-year-old Dariya Fadeeva. She's proud of her town and is a happy, normal, teenage girl. But the events of those three September days change her life forever.

Throughout Russia, September 1st is an annual celebration marking the opening day of school. In Beslan, that celebration turned into a nightmare when some 30 heavily armed Chechen terrorists attacked School Number One. Nearly 1,200 teachers, parents and children were immediately taken hostage. Dariya Fadeeva's younger sister was one of them.

While working in Beslan, the filmmakers of THREE DAYS IN SEPTEMBER were given a remarkable tape discovered by teenagers in the rubble of the school after the siege. A video camera brought to school that September morning by a proud Beslan parent found its way into the hands of the terrorists. The tape reveals never-before-seen details of the drama unfolding inside the besieged school. The video lets us see, first hand, the absolute horror of the takeover, including a pile of bodies dumped out of a classroom window after having been shot by the terrorists on the first day. We witness the only face-to-face negotiations during the siege. In a dramatic breakthrough, a group of mothers is allowed to walk out of the school with their nursing babies — in some cases forced to leave older children behind.

Two of Russia's elite Spetznaz troops at the school tell us their story. Both served in Chechyna and both participated in the taking back of Beslan School Number One. It's a rare interview with a captain and one his key soldiers — a sniper.

I just saw Bobby, so I'm going to go with that one. World Trade Center was good, too, though!

MAN, that's a huge list!!! You obviously watch alot of movies. I noticed Monster House, and Jackass 2 way down on your list, and I agree with you on those. Those were definitely two of the not so good movies of 2006 that I saw. Hearing some of the great reviews the both got, I thought they'd be alot better than they were, but they just didn't live up to the hype in my view. I thought Jackass 2 had way too many stunts, and not enough practical jokes. That was my biggest gripe with it. I thought the first Jackass was WAAAY better!!!

I was really surprised how terrible Monster House was since a lot of people liked it over Cars. Jackass 2 was ok. I laughed pretty hard and enjoyed myself, but lets call a spade a spade here - it's nothing to gush over and nothing I'd watch again.
